Been listening to this band well over a decade. Seen them live and met them a well, got to do shots of Jägermeister with Joakim and Par. One of the best power metal bands in the game. A flow of emotions every time. Good to see people continuing to be introduced and enjoying them. I learned a lot about history through them. Awesome video Jen.

Documentary: War is ugly. Grown ups have to open their eyes. If you look away, you pretend it's all alright. Wounded soldiers come home badly injured. Physically and mentally. So when I see a deformed body, I don't look away. I can only imagine what they've been through.

the pitch shift in joakims vocals & the instruments during the final chorus gave me chills the first time i heard this song,
its as if the soliders soul finally found peace after roaming the Blood-mountain since 1916.
Lest we forget all the unknown heroes who never came home 🌹🌹

One thing. There're 2WW planes and people think it's a mistake as that was 1WW. It's not. The soul has stayed there for so many years that he witnessed the 2WW battles.
    I won’t be going anywhere

I watched the soldiers come and go
And I kept my watch forever

Greetings Jen. My introduction to Scandinavian/European metal bands, began when my Son and Daughter in Law took my Wife and I to a Sabaton concert. Truly amazing that these guys write/perform incredible songs and give us a history lesson, at the same time! And, like you I've become addicted to these bands ranging from Sabaton, Nightwish, Epica, and others. Many of these bands have amazing, thought provoking lyrics as well!

That color footage of the battle and fighting in the documentary is from Peter Jackson's film 'They Shall Not Grow Old'. Days worth of WWI footage painstakingly slowed to actual speed and colorized. Professional forensic lip readers were used to read the soldeirs' lips and write what they were saying, and then men from the regiments' various regions were brought to read the words in the proper accents. It also uses recordings from the BBC archive of interviews with British WWI vets from the 60's. It is an amazing film, and I highly suggest watching it sometime.

J.R.R. Tolkien who wrote the Lord of the Rings had fought in WW1 in the British army and in 1916 his unit was sent to fight in the Battle of the Somme ,On 27 October 1916, as his battalion attacked Regina Trench, Tolkien contracted trench fever, a disease carried by lice. He was invalided to England on 8 November 1916 his unit was almost wiped out during the fighting in the Somme. he drew many things from his time in the war to be used in his writing.

Thank you for choosing to show the mini-documentary. Yes it is graphic. But it is so important that people actually see what happens, the true horror of combat, and maybe to try and feel how totally scared many soldiers on the front line must be. And to imagine how psychologically traumatised many of those who manage to return home to their families are. And how it can impact on them (and their families) lives for many years after combat ends. Society needs to learn. And our politicians need to learn not to treat our brave soldiers so badly and not to engage in war just for power, political ideologies and philosophies. (I'm a pacifist and believe that our armed forces should only be used to prevent genocide....and maybe in some cases self-defence as an absolute last resort).
Thanks again Jen for showing it.
And thank god for Sabaton (I'd never seen or heard any of their stuff before I found Just Jen Reacts!)....they paint pictures with their lyrics....providing us with a snapshot of our sometimes tragic history...and they make sure we don't forget....

On December 13th, 1916 at 5 AM, known as White Friday, a series of avalanches hit both Austro Hungarian and Italian barracks and basically buried them with everyone inside. People reported afterwards that both Austro Hungarian and Italian troops fired artillery at the loose snow on the mountains to cause avalanches on each other's side. The total death toll is unknown, but approximately 2000 soldiers died and a dozen civilians. Many of the bodies were never found. Some are being found nowadays with the ice on the mountains melting more and more due to climate change.

To your comment on the documentary that it looks real... It is. What you are seeing is digitally recovered and colored footage from that war. The very first recorded War. Not the first war obviously, but the first time that the people at home could see what was happening. The Geneva accords happened because of the camera... Because the people had to actually look at the destruction that they caused.

I love your review of this song! You don't just analyze the music like so many do but you go to the heart of the message. Okay, I have a request, and this is probably the wrong way to do it but here goes. I'm a Lord of the Rings fan and Annie Lennox sings a song called "Into the West" during the credits of The Return of the King and nobody has ever reviewed it. No, it's not Metal or rock but if anyone can do it justice you could. The back story of the song is there was a young man who worked on the set of Lord of the Rings and he died of cancer. Annie wrote the song and dedicated it to him, it will break your heart but it is so beautiful. Please do this. Here is the link, ruclips.net/video/vRSSGPyOlxM/видео.html
