got your books vol 1 and vol 2. youtube got me back into playing a decade or so after nearly a decade off prior to that . but your books are next level and i needed to do something different. its so easy to skip the melody/vocals of a song and go straight to the answer - the guitar solo etc -- visually with a youtube video. and thats fine but first learning the melody while initially slower --- it seems to me to yield compounding results . these tip videos are a big help too. please keep em coming. for ex. never heard of i real pro until i watched a video of yours. that was a huge help.

Awesome! Where can I get the chord tone map? 🗺️

Brand new to Jazz so I have no idea what I’m talking about, but I would assume learning what the chords are would be the first step? That way the melody would be easier to learn because you know what chord shapes you’re playing inside of. Is that wrong?

This helps me a lot. I‘m currently stuck with a repertoire of about 10 songs that I want to improve to a point where I can play it for friends. But there is no time for new Jazz standards. Now I will change that. The thing that clicked was that I don‘t have to learn the new song to perfection before I take the next one. The goal is a different one. Thank you so much.

It is funny how just doing the work you know you need to do will get you results. Everyone wants an easier softer way and there isn't one.

Not just 'every month', but every SINGLE month...lol. ..'and learn it in all 12 keys' - you better not have a job to go to, this alone is going to take you a shit ton of time.
I guarantee that by the time you're learning the song in the 5th key, you'll be saying 'fuck this' - 99% of the bands in jazz clubs play songs in standard key. Are you really going to lose months of practice time learning shit you'll never actually use ?
(jazz teachers love to get you to learn all songs in all keys as it keeps you occupied for fucking ages, and keeps you on the hook longer...)
It's time management. Learn the song in the original key (there's nothing more guaranteed to make you put down your guitar and walk away than trying to learn songs in all keys) - then work on all the rest of your practice stuff, new songs etc, and IF you have time to learn a few other keys, carry on.
(In 60 years of playing bass, I have never played or heard Autumn Leaves head being played in C#'F#, D, E, F, Db, C etc - use your practice time for more productive work)
Realistically, by the time you are at an ok level to play with others you won't be walking onstage with a bunch of seasoned pros', who'll expect you to know every song in every key (they likely won't either) you'll more likely be getting together with learners like yourself who will agree keys well before getting in a room together.
ps - there's no 'easy way', it's clickbait bullshit.

Love this video. It happens to be the approach I have been following for the past 6 months. I have about 10 tunes under my belt already and it get easier as I continue to add new tunes.

It’s Christmas holiday time and we are on a visit to friends. I have no time to work on your inner circle, yet. But right after Christmas (January) I WILL be joining. This looks exactly what I need and the time one has to devote to each song sounds perfect. But I do have one problem…. I have GUITAR ENVY. Your guitar is one of the most beautiful and smooth guitar I’ve seen. Looking forward to joining right after Christmas.
