    Just wondering, Could the part about the "Moon sadly watching the 'roses' die, in vain..." have something to do with Summer and Ruby? Since, you know, both of them have 'Rose' as their last name. Probably something to do with Summer dying in vain and now Ruby is becoming a huntress. I mean Ruby's song 'Red like Roses' has the part where it goes "Don't live your life in vain" and "I made a sacrifice and forced a bigger sacrifice on you"

    This song just keeps getting new ways it can be interpreted. Initially towards it seemed like it was being directed at Pyrrah by Salem, then it seemed like it was Raven was directing it at Ozpin, AND THEN it seemed like it could be directed at Salem from Ozpin's perspective, or vice versa after the lost fable, and now it also fits *really* well as a counterpart to Hero, as a sort of rebuke to Ironwood. How much foreshadowing can you fit into *ONE SONG*?

      It definitely seems like it's either Ozpin and Salam talking or Raven talking to Salam. Because we still don't know why Salam hates Ozpin and Ozpin is the only one that's taken lives through his regeneration and the maidens but also come no closer to his goal of peace. where salam has made sacrifices and taken lives but has become closer to her goal. It's very hard to pin point because it applies to a few characters.

  • @Shadowghost36

    I've heard a recent theory that this song is actually sung by Raven to Ozpin. She sees Ozpin as a manipulator who sacrifices others to further his goal, but no matter how many huntsmen and huntresses die, he's no closer to beating Salem. So she left; she won't be part of Ozpin's game and that's why she'll fight only to protect herself and her clan.

    One thing I like about Salem as a villain is that she does not underestimate her opponents, or at least tries her damnedest not to. She evaluates people's strengths and weaknesses and judges them appropriately. Oh sure, she's very confident in her victory, but every move is still calculated and she knows that if she leaves the good guys enough room to regroup and form a good strategy, they very much have a chance.
    This kind of reflects in the way she treated Cinder and the rest of her underlings in episode 1. Whereas everyone is ridiculing Cinder for what she failed to do, Salem actually recognized what she had actually accomplished. She's strict, and undoubtably evil, but in her own way, she's just. I still want to see her fail just like everyone else here, but... she's a pretty damn solid villain, and that gives her a really, really good chance of winning, or at the very least successfully scarring the world before going down.

      of course, she has who knows how many centuries of experience to draw from, and hasn't gone quite as insane as other villains with similar life spans, in part probably because of her 'blessings', as opposed to Ozpin, who is probably only as 'sane' as he is because of fresh injections of sanity into the gestault every couple decades

      This passage from 2:42 to the word "Goal".
      To me it has something to do with Cinder.
      "All the lives you stole"- Reference to the fall of Beacon and the thousands that died then due to her actions.
      "Still no closer to your goal"- Well...as the volumes go, she still isn't making that much progress.
      Her plans have been thwarted quite a few times by now...
      Or wait...I think I have an even better idea..
      What if...
      The leitmotif of this song and cinder's song in V8 are so similar is because...
      Sacrifice is also about not surrendering yourself to someone else's will. Not being their sacrifice on their plans so to speak.
      Well...
      Cinder, given what we've recently seen with Salem mirroring her abusive stepmom, might feel that way about Salem.

    • @achaastheoneaboveall2732
      @achaastheoneaboveall2732 3 года назад +8

      - Part 2 lol -
      Honestly, this song is genius.
      It doesn't just work for just one character in RWBY but for so many...
      Raven to Ozpin.
      Cinder to Salem.
      RWBY and JNPR to Ozpin if you think about it.
      This song is an anthem to those characters that felt that they were/are treated as nothing but pawns on the chessboard of two gods.(Salem and Ozpin).
      And more recently...
      Even The heroes to Ironwood with that "Pierce the sky, escape your fate."
      In the end, the main message of the song is really about all those characters that feel like they are just being used by the "chessmasters" of the series.(Ozpin ; Salem ; even Ironwood more recently...)
      Yes, In RWBY, there are two types of characters :
      •The Chessmasters: Driven by keeping the world under their control for whatever reasons they have.
      Ozpin and Ironwood because they fear Salem.
      Salem because she wants to destroy everything.
      •The Free ones: That do what they do not to serve a chessmaster but for their own goals.
      Ruby=>Saving the world.
      Cinder=>Power.
      Raven=>Protect her clan.
      Etc...
      And then the other characters either are allied with the "Free ones" or serve a "chessmaster" or are just irrelevant to the plot anyway.
      It sums up a good part of RWBY's story now, wouldn't you say ?
      And even with all that, I think I barely scratched the surface of this song's meaning.
      I'll come back if I find something else.

      @Elkanah Corcos It refers to when Ruby asked the genie "what is Ozpin hiding?". So she totally outed him. It's an easy line to miss. Probably wouldn't have noticed myself if not for MurderofBirds. There are other lines that refer to recent events. In the song When it Falls there's a line "Swallowed by the darkness. Soon the moon is bathed in black. The light of hope is taken and discontent is the contagion." The moon part is obvious . The God of darkness destroyed the moon with a black beam. The light of hope is taken and discontent is the contagion...they got mad at Ozpin most likely because he didn't tell him that they were fighting a pointless battle...or what now feels like it. Another line is something we all saw coming. "The blinding eyes. That burn a yellow flame. The embers that remain will light the fuse of condemnation." It refers to how what's left of Yang because she's still recovering...totally instigated what happened to Ozpin. There might be more, but these are the ones I remember. And tbh this message has already been long enough. So sorry for that.

She even went so far as to call Ruby a "lost cause" to Yang's face just because she is with them and obviously trusts them. Besides this song also came out in Vol. 2. I still think this song is from Raven's point of view towards Ozpin. It was part of the Volume 2 soundtrack, which was the first time we saw Raven.
    She blames Ozpin for sacrificing people in his war against Salem, such as Summer, and still not getting the job done ('The moon will sadly watch the roses die in vain, lost, no gain'; 'What if all the plans you made were not worth the price they paid, even with the lives you stole, still no closer to your goal').
    She knows about the relics, which makes me think Ozpin tried to recruit her - and while she may have joined him for a while, she left after deciding Ozpin couldn't win (which she alludes to in 'Family'). She refuses to just be another pawn in Ozpin's losing game ('You can't have my life, I'm not your sacrifice'; 'Most of all, I won't fall for you').
    Admittedly, we know very little about Raven as a character, but I feel like this song fits pretty well with what we *do* know, and helps to fill in some of the unknowns (just like From Shadows hinted at Blake's faunus heritage long before it was revealed).
    Just my thoughts.

    SPOILERS:
    After watching Vol.5 Ch.6 I think this song is actually about Raven, Qrow and Ozpin, from Raven's perspective. Think about it.
    "Death is never what it seems"
    This is referring to Oz's re-incarnation process
    "Did the things they thought you should"
    This is referring to how Qrow, from Raven's perspective, is blindly following Ozpin just because he seems like a good guy
    "Take the lives of those you need"
    This specific line is referring to how Ozpin seems to treat the huntsman/huntresses as tools for his fight against Salem
    "Born an angel heaven sent, falls from grace are never elegant"
    This is talking about Ravens apparent fall from grace when she went back to the tribe. It wasn't elegant b/c it fucked over the rest of her team and their relations.
    "You can't have my life, I'm not your sacrifice"
    This is raven's define toward the idea of being Ozpin's tool or "sacrifice". She won't "fall for [Ozpin]"
    "Truth will rise, revealed by mirrored eyes"
    Now allot people think this is referring to Ruby's silver eyes, but this is actually referring to the scene where Raven let's Yang in on Ozpin's shit. Yang and Raven look almost exactly alike, and yang's eyes turn the same color (red) as Raven's when she's angry.
    "Even with the lives you stole, still no closer to you goal"
    Now, this one is the real kicker. Who can you think of that has stolen many lives, and is still no closer to their goal? Maybe a certain immortal that hijacks the life of innocent young boys just so he can continue his eternal war against Salem?
    I don't think Salem is the only big bad of this story.

    Hrm, while I love the song, I'm a bit skeptical if the art fits here. Then again, this is one of the few songs that's unclear about who's it about. I can tell it's someone who's fallen from the "righteous path," possibly saw Summer die (in vain), and longs to see Ozpin "pay for his sins." Be chilling if it's an evil Pyrrha, as the pic showed, though I'm more leaning towards Raven, who might've seen Summer die and thus decide "enough is enough." Now she wants nothing more to do with Ozpin, and awaits the day when Ruby (her mirrored eyes) will reveal the truth about him, among other things. Something along these lines anyway. But still, love your work here, keep it up. :D

    • @candybow1330
      @candybow1330 5 лет назад

      Price payed: Salem paid the price for bringing back Ozpin and then paid another price to gain the power she has now (jumping into the evil pond water) in order to get what she wants
      Mirrored eyes: she honestly thinks what she is doing is for the greater good and everyone else has mirrors eyes aka doesn’t understand her motives
      Roses die: most people seem to think that Summer Rose and past Roses have died helping Ozpin (also possibly foreshadowing Ruby’s death) she is probably referring to herself as the moon (good -> sun and evil -> moon)

    • @nahte123456
      @nahte123456 5 лет назад +1

      OK your just wrong on the first part. The line is "what if all the plans you made were not worth the price they paid?" so it's questioning if the "price" was worth it when the "plan" still isn't any closer. it's a question about making OTHER people pay, not the singer. It makes literally 0 sense for Salem to say that about Ozma OR jumping into the Grimm pool, those are both prices SHE paid, not prices she made others pay. At best you could stretch it to mean when she caused humanity to be wiped out but that already happened and she was also punished so that wouldn't fit.
      "Truth will rise revealed by mirrored eyes" so the eyes are showing the truth, not denying it.
      And not only does it make no sense for her to compare herself to the moon about Roses, the song also says "the moon will sadly watch the roses die" why would Salem be sad if she was comparing her self to a go watching them die against her?

    I think that the "Death is never what is seems" Points to Ozpin, as he keeps on coming back. I really don't know whos worse, Ozpin or Salem. After all Salem just wants to not be immortal right? And Ozpin is hiding to many secrets. I think (My Opinon) that Ozpin is sacraficing people for his needs and might be worse than Salem.

    HOLY FRICK. Salem wants Ruby ALIVE, silver eyes must be able to do something that Salem WANTS. This is most likely from Salem to Ozpin, so if she wants “Truth to rise, revealed by mirrored eyes” and silver eyes act as mirrors reflecting light on the Grimm. What if Ozpin let Ruby in to Beacon to PROTECT HER FROM SALEM. It doesn’t make sense to that she’d kill the other silvered eye warriors... but wait, what’s this? Ruby fits right in to Salem’s plan. A younger, easy to persuade child that is close to Ozpin. By using Ruby she sends a message, no one is safe and nothing you do will matter. Ozpin interacted with team STRQ and so he must have talked with Summer, he didn’t want to lose another silver eyed warrior so he went out of his why to get Ruby into Beacon. He always kept an eye on her. Salem needs a silver eyed warrior for something... but what?

    if it was solely about Salem to Oz some part make no sense, Oz wasn't there when the moon shattered, Salem was. Kinda like they did with Red Like Roses 2, but with out two different voices, probably to not make it a obvious.

    With the new release of Volume 9 I will add to the theory pile and go out on a limb. What if this song is about Ruby's internal conflict with herself? The first half being sung mainly from Ruby's doubtful side, and the second half her being triumphant over her doubts at the end of this volume? Ik the song is old but I just found it( to many RWBY songs to listen to) and thought I'd throw a theory out there, though as someone stated this song can have multiple meanings.

    Pretty much saying I won't work for you also a bit of salem " Show them gods and deities blind and keep the people on there knees" a reference to where Salem faked being a god with her immortality and wanted Ozma to rule with her. Anyone else think that its salem singing to the gods i recently rewatched “the lost fable” and it really made me think about this “all your faith in ancient ways has left you trapped inside a maze” salem at this point probably does view dying as an “ancient way” she’s basically blaming the gods for this because they didn’t revive ozpin when he first died and now he’s in a never ending cycle “with all the lives you stole still no closer to your goal” here shes basically saying “look at how many people you’ve let die to teach me a lesson is it working are you winning?” So ya that’s just a thought

      The moon will sadly watch the roses die in vain Is a clue that it's talking about summer and ruby dying to Salem's hands blindly.
      You can't have my life is ravens mindset, she sees ozpins goal as sacrificing people for answers on defeating Salem.
      Pierce the sky escape your fate is her talking about herself,and ozpin. They both tried to escape their fate but will only gain hate for doing so, she's pretty much telling oz to tell the truth like she will.
      Truth will be revealed by mirrored eyes is saying ruby will uncover the truth(which she does)
      Even with all the lives you stole still no closer to your goal(she's talking about ozpin sacrificing people for his goal and asking what if there is no defeating Salem,what if the gods don't come back,what if there is no winning and your sacrificing people for nothing.

      I firmly believe this is Salem's song to Oz. Though I think Jeff said he didn't intend this as a song for any particular character (citation needed), but there are way too many things that foreshadow the later seasons and things pertaining to those two. I also really like the thought of the normally composed Salem being so emotional and passionate in her spite at his loyalty to the gods rather than her.

    Am I the only one who thinks this Song might be from Cinder towards Ozpin?
    In DIvide ( which is clearly Salem talking to Ozpin) its said " Sacrifice them for your needs", so here it would be Cinder saying that Ozpin's not ghetting her.
    Also in mutliple Songs it states that the People we assume to be the good Guys are lying and playing theire one Game. So the whole "What if all the Plans you made..." bit could easily be directed towards that.

    With the events of Volume 5 and our first real look at Raven, I really think this is *her song*. It's hear dealing with Summer's death (Close your eyes now, time for dreams/death is never what it seems) before turning into a huge "take that" against Ozpin ("all your faith in ancient ways/leaves you trapped inside a maze" and "born an angel heaven sent/falls from grace are never elegant" seem like deadringers for him now that we know Ozpin's the Wizard).

    I feel this could be Raven. I mean if you closely read into the lyrics and what we've (spoilers) seen if volume four and have heard from Raven. She knew Beacon would fall, she knew Ozpin would fail. And she's trying to keep her people alive. And she seems worried about Salem getting the Relic. So maybe this is Raven talking to Salem? I mean she knew Summer. She seems to know everything that's going to happen

    OMG this is not about pyrrha. Remember that this song played and the end of volume 2 not 3. I think it simbolizes someone (possibly Ruby) talking to Salem or Cinder. In this song (and Red like roses part 2) it is said that summer died in vain. And ruby says she wont be her sacrifice (possible what salem wanted of Summer-a sacrifice for something more- but it didnt work). So Salem is possibly looking for more power (she probably needs the power of the maidens+silver eyes) for something (she wants ruby alive for some reason).

    • @khoseftadros6947
      @khoseftadros6947 7 лет назад +28

      Alexis Baliari so what it was in volume 2? it could still be foreshadowing. "death is never what it seems" and we saw pyrrha "dying" and "all the things you thought you should all the things they said were good" implying that she was used or manipulated or fighting for something rather than the greater good. or at least that's what I think. the song could be for multiple characters. it doesn't necessarily have to be for one character.

    • @MrsBumblefuppersOldAccount
      @MrsBumblefuppersOldAccount 7 лет назад +8

      "death is never what it seems" could mean Ruby's mom summer rose, but at the same time why would Ruby's response to Salem or Cinder be "the moon will finally watch the roses die"? maybe the death of the old ruby? It's a good theory on it being about ruby, and a lot of this song has references to ruby specifically.
