Yeah! I'm pretty sure that particular actor is a real expat German. He appears in other Australian shows as a German. "The Lighthorse" from 1989 is one.
Given all the knowledge we have of WW1 this scene pretty much sums parts of the Western Front brilliantly. A new officer not in touch with the reality at the front = bad bad bad. Mostly for the rank and files who are the ones shelled.
This is why i like ww1 such things could happend so many times especially between the british and the germans just like on christmass when they met and played football. Sadly we can t see such things in modern wars.
and we also have holidays off where we get to play soccer with the enemy team.. and on thanksgiving we dine with the enemy.. ah how civilized war was ... now you just drop bombs on everyone at a push of a button
3:35 he messed up his cue but rescued it heroically
Me and my husband have a similar arrangement we don't fight before noon. Works well tbh.
Wow. Somebody *actually* speaking German instead of merely pretending to...

Damn replacements
Everyone outside of the officer newbie knows how pointless the war is LOL
very cool
Seems like a civilized arrangement to me, there's always a bloody spoilsport!
Haha! "Entschuldigung, es tut uns leid! Wir haben einen neuen Offizier, er kennt sich nicht aus!"
This seems to have aged quite well
these just shows the absurdity of the entire thing.... thank you for uploading this great scene.
Love this clip!
"We only get shot at by arrangement"
LOL! Makes perfect sense to me!
this has got to be one of my favorite war series. the LT ends up being stand up guy
Young buck butter bar wet behind a year. This is the kinda attitude that will get this 2nd Lieutenant killed in the first 20 minutes of battle.
i like the Arrangement
Much too clean for a 1917 trench. Fill it up halfway to the knees with water and filth, vermin and bugs, and you'd be close.
Creature comforts and human needs beget diplomacy. Patriotism supercedes both.
Um, aren't the men supposed to inform new officers of standing orders?
Funny clip, though.
One of the best war series ever made!
Where can I find episodes of this?
It's simply called "The Anzacs". I a pretty sure all full episodes are on RUclips. last I looked anyway

Well seems like a good arrangement
Why can’t we have this kind of gentlemanly attitude today?
nice
That looks like a WW2 vintage mortar to me.

And the British lions were led by donkeys! an officer like that is more dangerous then the enemy.
Beautiful.
that officer might get shot by accident?
Looks a bit modern for a WWI Mortar.......
Why are they wearing WWII webbing?
Ryan Gosling in the thumbnail?
