He sings the song in 3 language. Todii (Shona), Senzeni (Ndebele) and What shall we do (English). All meaning the same thing. The song was realeased around 1998, the peak period for HIV and AIDS. It briefly but accurately captures the trials and tribulations of an individual, family, or society as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic!

Much love from Namibia! I was very young (6 years) when HIV hit the continent, Southern Africa in particular. It was scary 😟. I say, may their souls rest in peace. We truly lost loved once. What was more painful was seeing them die without being able to do anything about their excruciating deaths.

Maaan so much beautiful memories over there. Late 1990s it was.
This song came out during the Era when having HiV was like a death penalty. He is basically saying that what shall we do to get the cure for this pandemic. If there is anyone who can have the ideas on the solution to this crisis, please come forward. He goes on to say: it is so painful to be raped by your married partner, knowing that you have HiV. Above all, there is no solution after death, we want the solution now.
Lesotho, Kenya , Namibia etc really appreciate this song even now in 2022 nearly 2023 in 3 days time ... Africa is full of one love , God bless Africa.

being Zambian is funny i grew knowing this man was Zambian his songs would play rather still playing to date on Zambian radio stations and i used to think he is from eastern Zambia infact the way us Zambians sing his songs it will forever be difficult to convince me he is Zimbabwean "washa widu"
What I really love about Kenya,is that they play and love alot of African music even when they don't understand the language. They don't care. They will sing the song, not even check the meaning most of the time, pronounce the words wrong, but carry along the love.
All the way from Nigeria, My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies for this tragic loss. Last year we lost Hugh Masekela, and now another legend is gone.
Am 24 and first heard this song somewhere 2004. Or 5. Listening to a guy we used to call Mambo Mbotela. Reminds me of the days with radio speaker in a bucket to make it loud... Damn we've come from far. THANK YOU AFRIKA FOR THE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
If you are born in Kenya in 90s you must be familiar with this song. Used to play in KBC radio every morning when we used to go to school. I miss old life
Reading comments here, damn, i feel blessed to be a Zimbabwean and to have lived in the era of Tuku and Thomas Mapfumo. thank you all for the heart warming comments😍
i was 12 years old in 2007 my dad used to play this song everyday at 5.30 in the morning now i listen to it and cry am so emotional may his soul rest in peace...thanks to kenyan radio stations
Oh my, this song reminds me back in 90's, I was in a day school, and this song played daily at 6:00am, at KBC 📻, it served as my alarm till I completed my studies, u didn't even know the meaning of this song but I love it, 13days to complete 2021, wish you a happy festive seasons ❤
This song brings back beautiful memories. The first time I took my mum on a safari in the Masai Mara, it is this song that was playing. 🇰🇪 It was one of the best trips of our lives
This man was and still is a legend. I remember when I went to his concert in 2016 in Cape Town, I was blown away. The room was not only packed with black people, but white people too. His music had a way of uniting all races, nationalities etc. The respect I have of him is big. May he continue to Rest In Peace🙏❤️🕯️
As i go throught the comments i love to read and feel different people's stories, and just feel the mystery of life while listening to the song... your was even more beautiful coz it pulled me back to thinking of the love story of ur parents, like how did they come to meet about, to now that you are here... and it can go further deeper thinking of their parents and their parents and so on, and you just realise life is a one beautiful mystery of which we are beyond blessed to be part of it, live it, and experience it, with all it's ups and downs
I never knew the legend's song was about AIDS .It was only after his death that uncle fred enlightened me about the song,,,,,R.I.P my legend,am still mourning from kenya ,,,,,,,,,safiri salama tutaonana badae

Love sisonke.........
Thanx its now clear
Thank you
thank you..i understand now..be blessed
Many thanks for the clarification!
Thanks for helping us understand.

being Zambian is funny i grew knowing this man was Zambian his songs would play rather still playing to date on Zambian radio stations and i used to think he is from eastern Zambia infact the way us Zambians sing his songs it will forever be difficult to convince me he is Zimbabwean "washa widu"
I thought I was the only one who has refused to accept he is from Zimbabwe 😂😂😂😂
@@taizierchisha6847 hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought he was Mozambican 🤣

What I really love about Kenya,is that they play and love alot of African music even when they don't understand the language. They don't care. They will sing the song, not even check the meaning most of the time, pronounce the words wrong, but carry along the love.
All the way from Nigeria, My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies for this tragic loss. Last year we lost Hugh Masekela, and now another legend is gone.

I have always enjoyed listening 🎶 to Oliver's songs...much ❤ from 🇰🇪
I'm Ethiopian Kenyan, I remember going to school listening to this on classic 105 🙏❤
