As a 2025 Ram owner I specifically chose the turbo option. I figured they had the Cummins out for years. Its a inline 6 diesel. Now the Hurricane probably wont produce the reliability factor of the Cummins. Sure it doesnt have the sound of the v8. But its power for towing without going diesel more than makes up for the sound. With that being said, I dont think it would be a bad idea for Ram to have a v8 option. Maybe make a new hemi v8 engine to place between the v6 and the SO Hurricane, or a powerhouse to place between the SO and HO Hurricane. I think either option would be a good basis to have a v8 option in the lineup.
Tim, I agree with you regarding a modest refresh for Tundra in 2026. The 3rd gen Tundra was the first truck out the door on the TNGA platform. It only makes sense, to remain competitive, Toyota needs to do a refresh that addresses all the shortfalls of the initial 3rd gen launch, including interior QC issues, and adds or refines features WITHOUT increasing the price. I am within 8 years of retiring baring another financial meltdown. My plan in buying a ‘22 Tundra 1794 was to have paid it off before retirement. If there are enough issues resolved in a 2026 refresh, I could be persuaded to buy a 2026 Platinum or 1794 and still meet my retirement goal.

Great video, thanks. The next gen Silverado/Sierra will debut in 2026 as a 2027 model. GM is the king of 1/2 ton truck sales. Many people, including myself, went with GM because of the V8. Their commitment to the V8 with the announcement of the gen 6 LS ensures we will be returning to buy their trucks. Not knocking the L3B, I think it's a fantastic engine. But I want a V8 in my 1/2 ton.
14:45 Tim I hear you on the sales numbers, BUT I do think the F-150 and especially Tundra buyers are not as die hard of V8 fans as the HEMI crowd. I could be wrong, but when a brand built a HUGE part of it's identity around a V8 it's hard to pivot to any inline six....that is not a Cummins of course lol. I personally would LOVE to see a 6.0 L Inline six, single turbo Hurricane gasser. Call it The "Cat 6 Hurricane HD!" Torque monster, less complex with a single turbo which NO ONE complains about in a diesel, but with none of the emissions headaches of a diesel. Imagine if doubling the displacement allowed even close to 1.5x the HO current hurricane? We are talking diesel power levels without the headaches. I'm not an engineer but there is no replacement for displacement WHEN YOU KEEP THE REST of the variables the same. Cake and eat it too shall we?

Kuniskis ordered that truck before he had any idea he was back in charge, right? So that order doesn't have anything to do with whether or not a v8 is coming back. I don't agree that the sweet spot for hybrids is using an internal combustion engine as an electric generator. My favorite hybrid is the McLaren P1 because it gives the driver choice. With the P1, you can drive using only internal combustion, only electric, or a combination of both where the two engines work in perfect harmony. I don't consider the new electric Dodge Daytona a good design because it has too much muscle car in the design. I also don't consider the electric Dodge Daytona a "Charger," and Dodge needs a new design for their electric cars to win over customers. I would like to see the Dodge M4S as a high-performance hybrid. The Dodge M4S was a technology demonstrator vehicle. The designation M4S denotes "Mid-engine, 4-cylinder, Sport“. I think Dodge could use this extremely efficient aerodynamic design to build a hybrid like the McLaren P1 with the 4-cylinder engine and electric motor, sending power to the rear wheels either individually or together for maximum performance. The Dodge M4S "Interceptor" already has a cult following and because it's design is different than a musclecar it doesn't create resentment or hatred in the fans of internal combustion musclecars.
What no 2025 Dakota!!! Blasphemy! Hybrids to me are more costly and complicated and don't really solve the problem on manufacturing efficiency & total environment care, however saying that the Hybrid is a good stepping stone and I bet dollars to donuts that anyone buying a hybrid today will buy full EV on their next vehicle (majority of drivers) As V8 vs Turbo 6's What is Fords Sales Figures? They offer both (along with GM) Where are the customers going when it comes to the Domestic Brands V8s Vs Turbos?
Not happening.. IF and it’s a big IF. The US won’t see a Dakota until 2027-28 if then. Might even be 2030 after the current UAW contract expires in 28’.
I argue that the “sky is falling if it isn’t a v8, the brand is dead” crowd are not the current buying public. They will sit on their 20 year old v8 pickup until it or the frame dies around it. ( I know. I still own a 2003 4.7L v8 Tundra.) The vast majority of followers on this and other new vehicle YT channels are not people in the market for a new car, SUV, or truck. If you are not in the market you are not the focus of the current manufacturer’s offerings. That said, the v8 IS dead, in anything other than certain luxury vehicles or exclusive trims.

@@Pickuptrucktalk Exactly. He had to do something (Hurricane) as his hands were tied by management (Tavares). But his entire legacy at Dodge and Ram is the hemi, he gave us the 392 and the hellcats and the demons. He bought the RHO only because he wanted to stick with Ram and at the time of purchase, this was the best option available to him (Tavares was still in the picture). I cannot imagine for a second he thinks the hurricane is the best engine to come out in his years at FCA. Another YTuber just talked to Kuniskis directly a few days ago (RacerX) and he's pretty much suggesting that big things are coming to Ram, though not immediately.
@@JohnSmith-ev1sm Did you see the video with the father of the HEMI engine explaining why they killed it? He's the engineer for the Hurricane engine.
ruclips.net/video/jSheFdCs-lc/видео.html
@@Pickuptrucktalk Yep I saw it, not suggesting the hemi could be used indefinitely, just that Kuniskis would have wanted a v8, rumour is that he was working on a crate engine which was also canned by Tavares. Politically things have also changed since this interview with Alan. That would also apply to the use of the hemi in the durango but they've since gone back on that and it's confirmed we'll have the hemi for at least another year yet etc.
Tim Toyota service department is full of turbo six trucks. Yes the HEMI is coming back if not it’s a fail on dodge. The frontier is a durable bad ass Honda better not screw it up. And tacos are full in service departments to.
Your FOS. I live near a high volume dealer. There are zero current Gen Tundras or Tacos in or near the service department. There are some broken 3.5 V6 Tacos and 5.7 V8 Tundras in the service department though. The new trucks are a lot more reliable.
Every time my friend goes in to Toyota to do oil changes on his5.7 tundra. Crap load of tundra turbo engines also new Tacoma stacking up. Toyota QC gone to shit. I was told by another person who works at an American car dealership. You want a Mid size truck. 1st Frontier why Simplicity. 2nd 3.6 gladiator for the same reason
Tim, have you heard that Stelantis is dropping the retail price by 35% in the first quarter, all brands. Or more youtube BS
I saw that video title and haven’t seen anything official on my end, so I didn’t hit play. That’s what I know.
Who wants a truck payment the size of a mortgage! We will see 2024 model year trucks still for sale in 2028 with these overpriced vehicles!
V6 far outsells the V8’s just due to sheer volume that Ford offers/sells them. Go online looking for used V8 Fords and 90% of them will be a V6.
Not happening.. IF and it’s a big IF. The US won’t see a Dakota until 2027-28 if then. Might even be 2030 after the current UAW contract expires in 28’.
Tim K. ordering a RHO truck means nothing.
RHO is not a TRX. It’s a sad successor that is neutered.
I argue that the “sky is falling if it isn’t a v8, the brand is dead” crowd are not the current buying public. They will sit on their 20 year old v8 pickup until it or the frame dies around it. ( I know. I still own a 2003 4.7L v8 Tundra.)
The vast majority of followers on this and other new vehicle YT channels are not people in the market for a new car, SUV, or truck. If you are not in the market you are not the focus of the current manufacturer’s offerings.
That said, the v8 IS dead, in anything other than certain luxury vehicles or exclusive trims.
lot of us want a useable pick up not a fully loaded luxury pu with a massive crew cab and a 5.5. ' box in not giving up my 13 ram 5.7 short bed or 19 Tacoma SX access cab
I'll take a gm 6.2 v8 with no AFM... other than that I agree
Maybe but you keep forgetting the covid happened and when you wai another year do your test again and let's see if you right
Sorry, what test?
@Pickuptrucktalk sorry not test but same review but a full year after the market gets past the covid excuse and our economy has a true downturn. I find all the manufacturers forget that no vehicles creates a demand and with the demand filled in some cases to extremes the fomo is about to crash down hard. I cant wait to I srt hearing the peas for bailouts from the same manufacturers next
People still want V8, they just cant afford them. If they can buy one, they are worried about the money spent on the fuel.
If, these trucks have turbo they are all unreliable and junk.
Going to be tough to find a truck in the future without a turbo.
V8 is dead.
Never understood why people like V8s. People put exhaust systems on them and it sounds like a helicopter. V8s have a lot more things on them to break especially since they are crammed into engine compartments.
With the Ranger I'm hoping for a Tremor model and Ford Bringing the Everest over to the USA.
