Calling the SystemChrome can be done in the main itself or in the initState. Nice video.

Calling SystemChrome in main() might result in an error, because of how the actual framework and the MethodChannels for the underlying API-calls are initialized. Although you can use WidgetsFlutterBinding.ensureInitialized() to be safe, it is, at least in my opinion, cleaner to just let the root widget make the SystemChrome-call.
