Life in a Van Along the Portuguese Coast

- Driving along the Portuguese coast is one of the most stunning drive you can do in Europe. The Atlantic Ocean, the cliffs and the views are something you can hardly find anywhere else. Forget flying from Porto to Lisbon, you have to drive and you have to take the long way around.

After enjoying an evening in the vans by the beach we woke up, went through our newly found morning van life routine and started to drive along the coastline to Nazaré famously known as the town with the highest waves in the world. After a beautiful walk to explore the small town and a nice lunch we headed back to the vans and headed to our campsite for the night.
Sleeping in vineyards around Portugal is literally the best thing you can do. From the tranquility to the stunning views all around, vanlife doesn`t get much better than that. Using Portugal Easy Camp once again, we found a nice place to park our two vans at Quinta do Sanguinhal where we enjoyed some family time and the most beautiful sunset.
After a quick breakfast inside my parent's van we drove to Ericeira which is a small town known as the surfing capital of Europe. Tracey and I went for a little swim in the ocean but let's face it, it was a COLD PLUNGE. The water was freezing even though it was a sunny day on a beautiful Portuguese beach.
From there, we visited the world famous Pena Palace, one of the most colorful castle in the Europe. As great as it was, make sure to be there early because it is one of the most popular tourist attraction in whole of Portugal.
And for our final night as vanlifers, we stayed just outside of Lisbon, Portugal's capital at a proper campground named Lisbon Camping and Bungalows. This was very different than all our other campsites during this van dwelling trip. Very functional with toilets, showers, a pool and a restaurant but also beside the main highway with no views at all... But we needed something more "practical" for our last night to do some van cleanup and organization and also to offload our waste...
Overall, this van trip from Porto to Lisbon with my parents was an amazing trip which we would do again and again. Seeing the beauties of Portugal with a van and on your own time, is the true definition of freedom.

I thought the only magical sunsets were over water. I was wrong. Sunsets over vineyards are something else, love it. I'm loving this series, and vanlife is something I'd consider on holiday, you get to see more of the country, you don't have to move your luggage from hotel to hotel or airbnb or hostels and best of all, your snacks and food are readily available at no extra cost. ❤❤

Portugal is a great country to explore in a van. I think you already passed it...only next time add Lourinha to your coastline stop. Sunset is incredible. And of course I assume you are making your way to the Algarve...so Albufeira is a must stop destination, in fact give yourself at least 3 days if possible to enjoy all the area has to offer. I spent two weeks in Portugal in September. It's a beautiful country. When I was in Nazare, the water was flat calm. I'd love to go back to see the waves.
