Colin Dunne and beautiful Jeanne Butler , the best Irish dance team ever... at Radio City Music Hall in NEW YORK ..the best city ever ( before De Blasio )
Can we just take a minute and appreciate the musicians here? They have to swap instruments on the fly for this entire piece, and basically play the entire show all over again. True professionals!
This is my absolute favorite version of riverdance! I loved the diversity of the performers. All the dancers were the best together...and I love Jean Butler! 🎉👏And who else was so excited when they saw the Flamenco Senora riverdance?! 🎉💃👏
Yes this is the best version and I saw it live when it came to Chicago! It really just left me feeling a new sense of hope in the world by the time it ended! The whole audience-and the audience had some diversity in it-just loved every part of this show. Wonderful on video but if the chance ever comes again I’d like to see it in person once more.
I just love the way... even the dancers that aren't Irish dancers... all come out and do Irish dancing... Absolutely breathtaking and brilliant. Thanks so much for posting.
This performance was so f***king great, every time I watch it tears roll down my cheeks. Very touching. And the performers really liked doing it, you see it in their eyes and smiles :)
I cry and get goosebumps every time I see it. Such a group of talented people. And when they all danced together I thought Why can’t we all be like that, dancing together, through life?
@@decodolly1535 yes Colin respected Jean and all of the musicians/performers in the show while Flatley soaked in the attention not giving respect for the group...
Согласна с Вами!!! Джин-лучшая из всей линейки солисток-девушек!!! Очень красивая, профессиональная и супер-супер-супер, визитная карточка Риверданса!!!👍💯💞
incredible show .. i would have cried if i was there .. and maria pages is just a charming butterfly .. i became a fan of her because of those videos .. just strong and wonderful ..
I had this VHS as a kid (of the 1995 version I guess bc Flatley was in it), and loved it so much, especially being a dancer of several types for over a decade. Can we just all agree that the flamenco dancer is the best of this whole thing XD
I like Colin Dunne's dancing over Michael Flatly. Just a personal preference. I also like the way he interacts with Jean Butler, it seems very relaxed and amicable
As a tapper from PR: I love Riverdance it makes me SMILE/CRY/JOY. And after the last 4 years I need all the SMILE/JOY/CRY- Maybe just maybe they will be at the 2021 President Biden's Presidential inauguration as a gift from Ireland and make me SMILE/CRY/JOY with ALL of our country. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
In all seriousness I thought I was the ONLY black person who loved Riverdance! Granted, i have Irish roots, but imagine how happy and ecstatic I was when I see TWO African American males actually Riverdancing!!
I am a strong Black Man, but I don't conform to the prevailing attitude of "Blackness". I, too, love Riverdance and I was pleasantly surprised by the TRADING TAPS" segment!!
The Trading Taps sequence which featured them was the best part of the show! Also you might’ve noticed the young man singing at the beginning is black as well-such a beautiful voice-I was at this show when it came to Chicago-it was even better in person!
I used to go see River Dance at least once a month when it was in NY. For 20 bucks from TKTS, you COULD NOT beat that deal. I saw so many great Broadway shows for 20 bucks courtesy of TKTS through out the years.
I will never forget when I wanted to go and see them… when I found out that the show was going to be happening, a friend of mine and myself had booked tickets. We were very fortunate to get seats in row F seats 7 and 8 and obviously very very close to the center of the stage. About 15 minutes after we booked the tickets, my friend's girlfriend asked if there was any way that she could go… the only challenge was is because the seats were at maximum capacity. I called the ticket agency back and got a 3rd ticket and told my friend that everything was all set. On the night of the show… I told him it would be better for him to sit with his girlfriend and I would just simply sit in another part of the audience and watch the show and we would get together at the end of it. He looked at me and said.. "Where are you going to sit…" I told him there was a last minute opening… Row A....Seat 10! They laughed and were stunned that I was able to get the seat. I tried to get seats next to each other for all of us but again unfortunately all seats were taken. I can tell you right now irrespective of the seating, the audience was absolutely spellbound as was described earlier in this video! Between the 2 encores plus the absolute performance that felt like thunder right in front of you! We met after the performance was over and we were all just in absolute awe of what we had just seen! So powerful.... so incredible, and just an absolutely fantastic and memorable show that will never be forgotten! And I can tell you safely right now… 3/4 of that audience came out of that theater with tears literally in their eyes… yours truly included… as I have never seen such a performance so powerful in my life! I haven't seen some of the newer performances come up like the 1996 show with Collin Dunne and Jean Butler, but in my honest opinion hands down was absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this video! You brought back and absolutely wonderful and fascinating memory of one of the most powerful shows on Earth! If you've never seen it… 1 word… GO!!!!!!!
story time: few years back i went to radio city with my parents for a trip and saw riverdance it was so fun, and like after i went to use restroom the show started again with thunderstorm and it scared the heck outta me...what a great show!
right he dont take credit all for himself he gives Jean respect and love too!! honestly Flatley is a ass ok im sorry but his way of interacting with laddies and taking the credit all for himself is so rude...
It would be interesting to see how many of the dancers from this 1996 performance have had children who became dancers themselves, especially if there are any second-generation Riverdance performers.
Not to be annoying but - Technically isn't this like, round two of the original? The updated version from 1994. The ORIGINAL original being at the Point Theatre in Dublin, with Flatley... this is New York, with Colin Dunne; but I still consider this original, tbh I like it even more than the first edition. The original didn't have Trading Taps, Oscaill an Doras, Slip Into Spring/The Harvest (w Eileen's fiddle solo), the duel between Eileen & Maria Pagés, The Nova Scotia Set/American Wake, & several other pieces we now associate with the show. I know Bill Whelan had it all composed but it didn't all make it into the first run.
Next year, the B.B.C. should do a 25th-anniversary special about this performance of RIVERDANCE, and show what each of those involved in this extraordinary show have been doing since this performance first aired in 1996.
Me to! It's one of the main reasons I did not buy tickets for the Farewell tour: I'm just to used to Colin and Jean, every couple after them will probably be a dissapointment. In my opinion all others try to imitate Flatley, while Colin really seemed to do his own thing.
think: the troope on tour gets really tired and im sure sore sometimes doing night after night concerts... it was few years back i saw them in radio city for a summer vacation and i was very close and the troope at the time seemed very happy and were just fantastic!!
Those are the members of the Russian Folk Ballet who performed a number called The Russian Dervish. They originally wore black dresses with pink blue and green trim but for this show they gave them full colored dresses. The girl in pink is named Svetlana Kossorokova, the girl in blue is named Tatiana Nedostup and the girl in green is named Marina Taranda.
@@Quiltercs it is a reprise of a song and dance number earlier in the second act called Oscail an Doras which translates to "Open the Door" in Irish. The full number featured the singers and the female members of the dance troupe led by Jean Butler.
Can we just take a minute and appreciate the musicians here? They have to swap instruments on the fly for this entire piece, and basically play the entire show all over again. True professionals!
Jean Butler was on home soil she is a NYC born Irish dancer and how awsome for her to be dancing in front of family and friends.
The best riverdance finale ever!!!

This man has such an incredible voice!!!
I’m going to Ireland in July and will be seeing this wonderful show b Dublin. So exciting to see it in its country of origin
I can't even imagine what it would have been like to be in that audience. The whole thing is just totally mind-blowing.
Elizabeth it was.
I went to the dress rehearsal of this show - was lucky enough to get tickets. It was just as amazing. One of the best experiences of my life!
Still stirring after 23 years! Such energy!
I just love the way... even the dancers that aren't Irish dancers... all come out

Whom would have thought putting tappers on traditional Irish dancing would have changed everything... Fabulous...
Colin Dunne and Jeanne Butler. Just can't get any better than those two!
Поддерживаю!!!
This performance was so f***king great, every time I watch it tears roll down my cheeks. Very touching. And the performers really liked doing it, you see it in their eyes and smiles :)
Colin and Jeanne are sooo good together!
My favorite cast of Riverdance. Bravo!
This makes me cry, I don’t know why.. love t try Riverdance specially this generation
I cry and get goosebumps every time I see it. Such a group of talented people. And when they all danced together I thought Why can’t we all be like that, dancing together, through life?
Toni Backus I know right!!
Absolutely. Well said!
Gosh, this show, it's amazing. it's truly a celebration of (shared) culture :)
I watched this show in Munich half a lifetime ago and I still think that Jean Butler and Colin Dunne were the best lead dancers Riverdance ever had.
Absolutely. They were magic together.
To me, Jean always looked more comfortable dancing with Colin than she ever did with Flatley.
@@decodolly1535 yes Colin respected Jean and all of the musicians/performers in the show while Flatley soaked in the attention not giving respect for the group...
Согласна с Вами!!!👍👏💯
Colin Dunne will always be my Riverdance crush...his posture and style of dancing is just beautiful.
Totally agree..He out dances Flately every time. completely.
I hope that all the time
Completely agree.
Idid not realize how average Flatley was until I saw Colin dance. He is just head and shoulders above all.
I don't feel I can comment on Flatley's dancing because I can never see it clearly past his ego.
there is more energy on that stage than a rocket ship blasting into orbit, incredible
Фантастика сколько энергии браво 💐👍👌
jean butler had the best form of all the ladies who danced her part in Riverdance's franchise.
She’s the best
Согласна с Вами!!!

Очень красивая, профессиональная и супер-супер-супер, визитная карточка Риверданса!!!👍💯💞
Agree totally mind boggling Jean and beautiful also
The best Riverdance in the history of the show
The best riverdanc there ever was…and I have to say, probably ever will be.🎉❤

Love Colin Dunne. He is the absolute best with Jeanne he is perfection...
He brought something magical to the show. An amazing dancer.
Colin Dunne is such a class act. He can dance circles around Michael Flatley
massive kudos to the guy who nails the bass lick at 8:41 ... that's top drawer!!!!
Saw this show and cast in Birmingham, Alabama! One of my most-treasured memories!
Maria is my favourite but they are all great 😊❤️ x keep smiling x

I much prefer Colin Dunne. I love to watch him travel. Seems to float across the stage.
Totally agree!
Flatley's ego makes his performance worse. Collin doesn't have that issue which makes him far better to watch.
totally agree! Flatley is a little bit revolting. Plus Dunne's technique is definitely better.
Colin Dunn always reminds me of the late Prince.

Yo I saw this show live when it came to Houston back in 1999 on my birthday. It seemed so surreal.
I love this part. Its my favorite at the end.
"Okay, we're done." ENcore!
Okay just 1 more. *dances*
A truly amazing troupe. My fave forever.
My hands still hurt from clapping all those years ago.

@AfroBoho It's called 'Oscail an Doras' which is Irish for ' Open the Door',

GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME
It took me a few times before I saw that the audience even gathers up at the stage in a few shots ;) It's like a neverending circus.
