- After a few days up in the Northern Japanese Alps, it was finally time to take a shower and do some laundry before heading back to the trail. We call this a "zero day": no trail miles, a time in town to resupply food and do "chores". I'm so happy to share a little bit of the beauty of Matsumoto and all the amazing coffee shops there with you all! Having a good cup of coffee after a few days of hard hiking and backpacking is one of my favorite things to do :)
Thank you to everyone who is coming along for this adventure. You all mean so much to me!
Featured coffee shops in Matsumoto:
茶noma (Cha-noma)
Hangout Coffee
Coffee Marumo
Matsumoto Guesthouse: Nawate Guesthouse
Amazing location, clean, great amenities, a super cool cafe downstairs-- highly recommend!
Hakuba accommodation: Penke Panke Lodge and Apartments
Originally booked a dorm room here as well, but they offered an upgrade to a private room with private bathroom for a very low cost. Pros: budget accommodation, free breakfast, cool staff. Cons: further from town than others, no AC during hot summer season (room gets VERY stuffy), not as clean as other places I've stayed in Japan
Train line to get from Matsumoto to Hakuba: Oito Line
- I recommend that you buy tickets at the station before you go through, they don't technically accept Pasmo etc (but I was able to get mine scanned in Hakuba one time, another time no).

Their cities seem a lot cleaner than ours over here in america
They really are, it’s been nice to stroll around such clean streets.☺️

If you're climbing the Northern-Alps, you have to wear a helmet.
You also have to prepare and submit a climbing plan, and that tent wouldn't stand a chance if it was exposed to a rainstorm on the ridge.
This tent actually has survived a few rainy and highly gusty nights up in the Northern Alps across several mountainsides, as well as exposed desert areas etc, zpacks designs their tents for that, pretty cool. Helmets are suggested for many routes in the Northern Alps, but I specifically chose routes that did not require or need them. Great point, though! And in one of my videos, I talk about submitting my hiking plan at the beginning of the trip. Always a great reminder! They have ways to do so online, at the Kamikochi welcome area, and I have found them along certain more populated routes as well.
Thank you for uploading so many videos of Japan. I'm glad you stayed in Japan for so long. Please come to Japan again. Of course, I've registered you. I look forward to your next posts. Please support U Darvish too.
Thank you so much for watching! I am living in Japan for a few years, so I can’t wait to explore more of this beautiful country ♥️
@@tinwenwalks That's surprising! I currently live in Chiba Prefecture, but my hometown is Hokkaido, and I go back there every two or three months. Please come to Hokkaido in early summer.
