My dad was a fireman for 30 years in Glasgow then he retired, as a kid he took me to this scene a few days after.... I remember being on his shoulders. Little did I know then that a few years later another disaster would strike and another 7 firemen would be killed. I knew most of them as I stayed in the fire station at Bridge street that some worked in which was nearest to the scene. I remember as kids knowing that some of our dads had died and us all wondering who's until we found out...i was lucky one. God bless all firemen and all our emergency services. Thanks for the memories.

John Arthur was it ever explained how the whiskey fires started? It seems an odd thing to happen. I am not a religious beliver but I 100% agree with you. Respect to all fire fighters.

My dad was at this 'shout' as they called it, I was eleven, and can remember how terrified my mother and neighbours were.( Fiermen's families were grouped in houses together in those days) Next morning he arrived home, and as always poured oil on the troubled waters. I remind myself that many of those firemen were ex servicemen, and certainly in my dad's case had been thorough much worse, so I always wondered what they themselves though of that terrible night. The funeral was carried out by Wylie and Lockhead, the longest established and possible one of the most dignified Funeral Directors in the city. Still one of my clearest memories.

Fitting and memorable tribute to our Firefighters, and Salvage Corps Men, Heroes All. The look of sheer exhaustion, despair and grief on the faces of the onlookers speaks volumes.

Was woken up to look along the Clyde from our window in Govan - One of the most frightening things I've ever seen the whole City was bright red. OUR HEROES the GFB

I was a child in Yorkhill Children's Hospital that night. It was a Nightingale ward and I remember the nurses at the windows looking at the fire and the light from the conflagration shining through.
Its sad to note the number of Glasgow Salvage Corps men who died.
It is a very interesting organisation that I also remember on the streets of Glasgow.

My late father was a fireman in City of Edinburgh (subsequently Lothian and Borders) Fire Brigade from 1958 until his retiral in 1979.
Rip all those firefighters who have given their lives to save others and all those who have served and continue to serve today. God bless you all.
Thank you TrueBavery for making this video

Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. A beautiful piece of music set as the background to London Burning. My grandad - frank Dunmore served in the LFB from 1908 - 1936. In 1939 Frank served as an advisor to MI5 on fighting large scale fires . Grandpa died in 1965 .
God bless all of who served to save our great city.
