  • Rape and other sexual crimes are a serious issue in our society globally, but particularly in South Africa. In this episode we hear from Mbali Lekhuleni, who was only 16 years old when she was raped at gunpoint. She shares her story of this tragic event, how she ended up shooting the assailant in self-defense and her subsequent journey of healing and restoration.
Mbali is now building her music career, has launched her the RATO Foundation and is a member of Joyous Celebration, Africa's biggest gospel music outfit.
    Let's have the conversation.

Glad she ended it all and saved many young innocent girls. She's my hero 👌🏾
I was robbed at gunpoint inside my place and acting tough in front of someone who's holding a gun is extremely dangerous, though I still experience trauma now and then, I'm glad I was not violated.

As A Rape Survivor ii felt everything uu spoke about & im inspired.
Going through all this pain and thinking your family isnt supportive because they dont ask you how you feel hurts ey cause ii remember how i used to think my mom doesn't care about how ii felt but truth is that its was not easy and only to find out that she also went through rape & she couldnt talk about it.
It feels so lonely and another thing is that uu cant go outside or always be with friends because they would feel pity for me and they cant talk about certain things because they are scared it'll hurt you.
It feels so good talking to someone thats either going through it or healed from it because you guys can comfort each other with the pain. I remember how me and my former best friend used to write each other letters about how we feel every day and update each other how self-harm is going and how good it makes us feel so good.
I always wanted to leave home and start a new life & believed ii would heal and when ii got accepted at PE ii started a new life and im my favourite person now, im happy and im now comfortable with wearing skirts and ii can also date now❤

Your story brought me close to tears. Looking at you as you speak, I just believe that you deserve all the love and happiness the world has to offer. God bless your soul and your life. This horrific event should be the last to happen to you and your bloodline. Let it never happen again not even to your children and your grandchildren and your great grandchildren and the generations that follow. This is a break of a curse.
My family suffered the same too. I was not raped but I was inappropriately touched as a child and as a toddler, my uncle made me perform oral sex on him. i don't know how I remember, but I remember this. My mom has been open about her experiences, however she has not healed. Speaking to her will not help. I have never told her and I never will because she keeps saying that all the things that happened to her must happen to me. She literally tells me that I will also be raped and abused because it happened to her. I think her honesty has helped me process the lessons that need to be learned. And I thank God everyday that I have also learned to be empathetic and learn from the stories of other women so much that an abusive relationship has never happened to me and if it were to, I would know how to deal with it.
Rape, abuse, violence umkhokha. If it can happen to you, it can happen to your kids. And you can be an abuser/ a rapist/ a murderer, your kids can also become that. That energy needs to be processed and dealt with. It is negative karma. It's a curse. And only when you deal with it, will you see the light and live in warmth.
Mina I have realised that I need to break the curse as well. My children cannot live through and experence what I am experiencing with my mom and what I experienced in my life. As a daughter, that is my duty. I need to work and heal the bloodline of my family in the form of equipping the next generation with the skills and lessons needed to navigate life wisely. What I have realised is, if parents do not thoroughly deal with a problem, the problem will affect their children. You have a gut feeling that your mom experienced the same thing. But this was never processed or spoken about in the family. Your mom had a gut feeling and tried to protect you but what you did not know what the threat and danger was. That curse was never broken. That lesson was not learned and it happened to you. And when it happened to you, you did what many victims wish they could have done, to process the pain and negative energy, to speak up about it and move on. As we speak, being a rape survivor is not your identity as you did not make it one. Unfortunately for some, this ordeal has become an identify for them, a scar, a scar that will turn into a birthmark for their kids and their grandkids. People are going on tours, spending 5, 10, 15 years talking about how they survided rape. You only know them as rape survivors and they have no identity apart from that. Their stories have no justice and their stories have no healing. They just say, "I was raped and I forgave my rapist who never apologised. I won't name them. They are still living but God will sort them out for me". I honestly do not think that is helpful or productive. That does not process or deal with the negative karma and the curse. Rapists and molesters are not objects of forgiveness and grace. An object is a person or thing to which a specified action or feeling is directed. We cannot as a people and a society direct feelings of grace and forgiveness to such people. Such people should be locked up or erased from existence.
But what you are doing now, will certainly help your kids and the next generation. That is what karma is, it's not a case of what goes around comes around. What you did, was to deal with and process the generational curse and karma. And with this, you can be certain that you are now equipped with the skills necessary for you to prevent it from happening to your kids and you will equip your kids with the knowledge needed for prevention.

I think there's a lot of man or boys who have been raped or touched in a wrong way. The hatred men have towards women it is scary. There is an underlying problem we are over looking as society rape cases are increasing, I believe a research needs to be done, we need to find source of this. This is a spiritual battle that needs God qualified psychologist to come together and find healing. This needs God. I am also a victim of of rape, lots of other changes of me being raped but God saved.

Another thing is that the correct sex application is not taught enough and/or at all. I only found out that sex was spiritual at varsity. Nakhona, a fellow student, was sharing her grandmother's teachings about it.
