When you realize that even Rabbi Mole, Dr. Worm's bandmate & supposed friend, doesn't refer to Dr. Worm as Dr. Worm.
dr. worm:
- they call him dr. worm
- interested in things
- not a real doctor
- a real worm
- an actual worm
- lives like a worm
- likes to play the drums
- thinks he's getting good
- can handle criticism
- someday someone else besides him will call him by his stage name
He can't hear the doorbell either.
@@motherlarkspur4506 I think that's only when he's playing the drums though
@@deardeer1469 that's fair, that's fair.
He also can't tell if you're watching him twirl the stick
This is the best youtube comment thread I’ve ever seen. I’m saying this as a fake doctor and a fake worm.
I feel like this is a parody version of a broadway song that doesn’t exist
its the voice
Yes! Lmao
Dr love?
I thought it was a weird al song for a second when I first heard it
The truth is that many of their songs sound like parody versions of broadway songs. Can you imagine is someone took them all and created an amazing musical?
amazing how a song that doesn't have a single rhyme in it can sound so damn good
It doesn't have rhymes because it is deliberately told as though it were casual conversation, like someone telling someone else random imperfect stuff about himself.
there's such a beauty in this song that sneaks up on you without warning. it starts as a worm showing you his love for drumming anf its a little bit cute, a little bit funny, but then the worm starts singing with such soul how one day the world will love his music and call him by his name. you realize that he's singing about being recognized, beinf able to be the person he wants to be. it makes you realize that he's more than just a worm with a hobby, and it makes you love him for it. fantastic songwriting
Amen!
And he spent 8 years in college to earn that doctorate. Respect!
@@mrporto2He didn't spend all those years in school to be called "Mister" Worm!
@@mrporto2 No the hell he didn't. He's not a real doctor. 😂
Did you even listen! He's not an actual doctor but he is a real worm
That solo vocal is so heartbreaking. Poor guy. I hope somebody else besides him will call him by his stage name too.
We all call him by his stage name now, don't we? He made it! 😊
@@em97c I love Dr. Worm!
Dr. Worm is doing ok. He has hobbies, he's interested in things, and he has friends who come over and jam and they enjoy making music together. This is a song about not having to be great at everything you nonetheless love.
Watch the music video from Kablam :)
plus the triumphant tone of the final line "They call me Doctor Worm!" implies he makes it in the end.
I think Dr. Worm is a great drummer.
He's really improved
I wouldn't trust him to be my doctor though
I would trust him fully as my doctor
Worm is great because Worm likes to play the drums and can handle criticism
Until he met Nyango Star
I do love how the line "[...] I'm twirling the stick" indicates that due to the lack of limbs, he can only ever wield a single drumstick which I assume he just wraps his entire body around - true dedication.
He also cannot hear the doorbell because he has no ears
it’s funny to think of this as an _earworm_ when it’s stuck in your head
Oh my gosh. Underrated
I'm listening to this song right now and I'm replaying it multiple times... Yeah it's a earworm banger of a song...
That means he is an actual doctor. An Ear Nose Throat Doctor Worm. 😆
Everyone is over here with their deep theories and explanations of the song and my little brain is like
"he cant hear the doorbell becuz hes a worm"
I thought it was bc he was drumming so loudly he couldn't possibly hear the doorbell. And he's a worm.
This song has always left me feeling sad, there's something oddly melancholic about it.
I actually sing this song to my toddler a lot cause I find it pretty uplifting. Dr. Worm is a character who is taking on a challenging task, and has confidence that someday he will get good enough to be a star, but til then they're more than willing to hear criticism
@@JCWolfwood I use to cry everytime the line "but I can handle criticism" came around. It's so genuinely endearing, the fact that he understands that others being tough on him is just for the sake of improvement. John & John really know how to make sweet characters.
@@mjuzumaki John & John*
You know, I feel like Dr. Worm is ok. I think he's happy, and trying to get better at doing what he loves like we all are.
I know, I love it...that's how all their songs are...like they're may be something sad laying just beneath.
They call me Dr. Worm.
Good morning. how are you? I'm Dr. Worm.
I'm interested in things.
I'm not a real doctor,
But I am a real worm;
I am an actual worm.
I live like a worm.
I like to play the drums.
I think I'm getting good,
But I can handle criticism.
I'll show you what I know,
And you can tell me if you think I'm getting better on the drums.
I'll leave the front un-locked 'cause I can't
Hear the doorbell
When I get into it I can't tell if you are
Watching me twirling the stick.
When I give the signal, my friend
Rabbi vole will play the solo
Some day somebody else besides me will
Call me by my stage name, they will
Call me dr worm.
Good morning how are you, I'm dr worm
I'm interested in things.
I'm not a real doctor,
But I am a real worm;
I am an actual worm.
I live like a worm.
I like to play the drums.
I think I'm getting good,
But I can handle criticism.
I'll show you what I know,
And you can tell me if you think I'm getting better on the drums.
I'm not a real doctor,
But they call me Dr. Worm.
PivotAnimator50 All these years i thought he said, "Rabbi Bull." But u r right
Rabbi Vole is a solid dude
Important reminder that:
- I’m not a real doctor
- I am a real worm
- I am an actual worm
Don’t forget:
- I live like a worm
- I like to play the drums
Exactly what I wish to hear from someone right before they start operating on me.
Sounds like you’re interested in things, sir
He’s such a humble little guy and I love him.
its not just about someone who is lonely, longing to be recognized for the hobbies he has spent time getting talented at.. its about finding love and friendship, and standing out, at all in this lonely world and being appreciated as an individual. its not about being egotistically recognized for getting good and being worshiped as a rockstar.. its about the human connection and feeling valued at all.
fuckin SLAPS
I think it’s about worms
@@akiraeatsguitarpicks491 Just one worm
I still have the AQWorlds badge for the collab. Such good times
Same, good old times ;(
I used to love AQWorlds so much
those were the days
The nostalgia is hitting hard here bro...
I get my 15 year reward soon what should I get
When I was a little kid, one of the CDs on rotation during family road trips was Severe Tire Damage. I'm still obsessed with this song to this day. Thank you John. You too, John.
i've been listening to tmbg ever since my parents bought two albums for me when i was young (tmbg 123's and abc's) and listening to them now makes me really happy and nostalgic dang...
i dont want to make an overused quote but it's so perfect at this moment
My bro bought John Henry when it came out. I listened to it more than him.
I like to imagine that they're a worm on a string, but that's just me.
That's good. That's very good
You guys are my science teacher's favorite band
Steve Long
They’re my student’s favorite too! Whether they like it or not🤘
TMBG is EVERY science teacher's favorite band
Here comes science...
They're such a cool science teacher band
Known this from Ka-Blam! and I've never felt so nostalgically revived. The brass just gives it away. One of the best 90s / 2000s songs ever. ' v '
I was just a little toddler when Ka-Blam! was on air. But I got to see the reruns on the Nicktoons channel (I don't even know if they do those anymore).
While everyone else is either a regular fan or sent here from Aqw, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in the wash of Nickelodeon nostalgia
Saaaaaame
I know it from Adventure Quest Worlds
between this, boss of me, and particle man, i feel like tmbg is behind a lot of nostalgia
This song makes me cry more than I'd like to admit
It's such a great one!
This song has literally been a part of my life since birth and will continue to be a part of my life until I die
I love that for you
💕🏆 Living life right! 👈🌝💐
yoooo same
I remember seeing the music video on Nickelodeon way way back when
Yes same this band raised me
This could be the theme for a really random cartoon or anime.
The Dr. Worm Show
this is a song made for a browser game "adventure quest worlds"
@@feitopuns was it really made for aqw?? that would've been cool!! i loved that game...
@@hetaeramancer yep this song was made when they made a cameo for that game they even named the class they made for that event "vindicator of they" whose skills are name of their other songs
@@feitopuns that is inaccurate. Dr. Worm was released as solo hit in 1998, a full decade before Adventure Quest Worlds was released. Its first major appearance in media was a music video featured on a Nickelodeon show called "KaBlam!".
Back when I was in marching band, we would always have to do stretches before we practice and our director would play songs and this was everyone's favorite song
This song is perfect. I love the backing vocals on the chorus so much.
This song makes me cry it’s so joyful and beautiful 🥲
Especially that last verse
My dad used to play a lot of they might be giants songs and this is one of the ones I remember most ❤
I can ABSOLUTELY picture Gonzo of the Muppets singing this.
JMein13074 true
Awww!!!!! Thanks for the image!!
He's not a worm >:(
With a sad rainy background**
SOMEONE MAKE A 2017 MUSICAL STYLE ANIMATIC OF THAT
Someone started playing this over voice chat in a TF2 match
now this is a pro gamer moment
How is the marriage going?
They have good taste in music on that game's fandom.
I never knew this was a real song. There was a flash game called "Worm" that was essentially just Snake but with a worm and they had this song playing.
That’s how I learned about it too. Me and my brother loved this song and played the game for it.
I really hope that this song doesn’t have any meaning deeper than what the lyrics are because it’s just so perfect as it is
I always interpreted him calling himself an “actual worm” probably meant he saw himself as lowly and not that he was a literal worm. Why else would he specify that he lives like a worm
They've guaranteed heard a song or two by them... My friends who've "never heard of them" have heard things like Particle Man or Boss of Me, or even that Starbucks jingle a couple years back.
I think it was Dunkin but yes! Also Istanbul
And who hasn't seen Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
@@PrinceSqee the whole roller coaster of "this hot cha song is corny, it sounds like mickey mouse clubhouse" then realized They made hot dog....
Best TMBG song right here. I remember when I went to go see them live in LA for there 30th anniversary tour I spent the whole time hoping and waiting for it, and then they pulled it out as the first encore (they did like 5 and ended on Istanbul). One of the best nights of my life.
Honestly we need MORE of this type of content. This is the stuff that made youtube a great platform, not all these paid promotions and over produced videos. We need more people just doing stuff for the hell of it because they felt like it, not because it's going to make them a buck.
BREAKING NEWS! Local worm sued for medical malpractice, more at 11!
This is a gigantic smile in a can. Perfect.
this song goes so hard
This is my best friend's favorite TMBG song. I just saw him for the first time in half a year. This is the happiest I've been in half a year. I love him so much.
Thanks guys! I wouldnt have known this song if it wasnt for aqw!
+Royce Zeng Yay that makes 2 of us!
Foxy TheFox
:D
well im not alone :)
Me too. X3
Battle On! :3
Is it also Dr. Worm on the bongos?
Because my boy is SLAYING
Thank you Henry, June, and the great people of KaBlam! for introducing this band to my childhood.
i'm in pit in marching band and this song has a cult-like effect on us.
That's an amazing song to play in marching band! I'm jealous
KaBlam!...thank you for introducing me to this amazing band.
Adventure Quest Worlds golden age :(
Freal
amen 🙏
PREACH brother
Damn
Don't know why, but I love this song so much. Every time I hear it makes me happy. It is just the best. I wish they made more songs exactly like this. It's just the best.
The lyrical content of this song rivals the greatest poems of our time.
I love this song.
I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes, I'm Dr. Worm
lol
I just found a DVD in my parents' house with a bunch of TMBG music videos and it made me remember how much I love this song
John is definitely the best singer in the band. ;-)
What? No, John is the better singer
I think Dan's pretty underrated in the band, as is Marty
Screw Dan, though, lazy bastard
@@tobyw.8946 No I agree, I like John more.
@@adeeta5701 Thank god you've come to your senses
This song plays in the credits of existence.
Doctor worm, you're an excellent drummer. 😘
Rmember this song from a adventure quest worlds crossover event when i was a child glad to find this song again
I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.. Who learned to play the drums lol
This song has been stuck since I heard it in aqworlds years ago. Boy, I still love this song :)
No wonder Ive taken so much to this band. Kablam probably implanted them into my brain when i was like 7 lol.
Also, this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Mordecai and Rigby are good backup singers
Thank you AQW for introducing me to this band years ago!
Мене називають Доктор Ворм.
Добрий ранок. як справи? Я доктор Ворм.
Мене цікавлять речі.
Я не справжній лікар,
Але я справжній хробак;

Alex, show me what you know and I will tell you if I think you're getting better on trombone...
i think im gettin' good but i can handle criticism
I love this song. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think there is a quote from the Tijuana Brass "A Taste of Honey" at approximately 1:35.
What is it about this song that immediately makes me tear up when Doctor Worm starts to sing?
I remember this from an old flash game like a decade ago
Farm that token of vindication for 90 days and get VoT the strongest class at the moment
AQW was legendary
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who remembers the AQW and TMBG crossover
I remember when I was small like 4years old I loved the song and I still love the song
Great song to squrim to!
My dad used to sing this to me as a kid and it's always stuck in my head. So great hearing the original as an adult 😅
A siivagunner rip got me to this song out of all things
these comments range from a few months ago to a few years ago and yet...all share the same love of the Worm. we'll call you by your stage name, man. leave the keys under the doormat, its safer than leaving your door unlocked
RFKjr should use this as a campaign song.
I love this song.
this song is the most nostalgic song. makes me cry tears of happiness and some sort of melancholy
Awesome song
I support Dr Worm so much. Thank you for everything Dr Worm
I'd like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Kablam for exposing me to the musical genius of They Might Be Giants.
once i know how to play a trombone imma play this till i die
Alex Lubbers Good luck doing F# major lol. Keep it up tho.
Keep at it my dude
Best short video ever back In day. Most random music video commercial 🙌
This song was so catchy when I was little when I first saw the music video that was shown in Kablam!
Beautiful.
Wish Dr Worm and TMBG do a gig in the UK soon 🪱
this song has and always will be a banger. i love it so much, it's so motivating and just so uplifting :)
In my eyes or ears in this case this is a great song and Dr worm is a great drummer
How did i just discover this song in 2022??? This is awesome!
I pulled the finger and smelled the lemons. Thanks for the rec John, I liked the song :)
R.I.P Ciara Eliza Horan
2001-2020
We all miss you. I hope you are in a better place now.
Who is Ciara?
Why do I have to bring up heavy stuff? I first heard this in the late 1990's on 105.9 KLZR-FM Lawrence, Kansas(Modern Rock 105-9 The Lazer). I love the song! Anyway, in 2002, I heard just a tiny bit about information-gathering operations in foreign countries(especially in the Middle East). Nothing too specific, just a general hint here and there, indicating some of the tactics used to gather intelligence. I, as well, am interested in things.
Dr worm so peak this is art
this is going to be my song
0:09 "I press the wrong button again, sounds good i quite like it, quite like it... see you tomorrow!" - Ed Petrie, 2007.
I have to listen to this song.
oh, he's getting better on the drums alright
probably their best live song
this could possibly be the catchiest song ever conceived by man
Many TMBG songs are. I can't tell you how many times I've caught myself humming "Istanbul was Constantinople" or "Don't don't don't let's start I've got a weak heart"
They Might Be Giants used to be so great to listen to. I mean I still like all the old songs but I don't know if anything they make now would be anything worth listening to.
Try “Drown The Clown” from the new album, you’ll love that
whenever i listen to music in class i have to resist singing this when i'm supposed to be doing my math worksheet
best song ever
Ok dumb story but I haven't listened to this song in like a year now but I was somehow thinking about it well asleep and I had a dream about a worm who transferreds his consciousness into a human being and was like a really well known scientist
The best song
You guys are just so eternally adorable.
