So true, having your own garden sanctuary for me is and absolute must I always say if I have my bit of green (my garden) and bit of blue ( beautiful blue sky) I’m set ☺️ no need to travel for me.
I don’t know how to fully express how BEAUTIFUL your garden is and hope that the world will see it. Your expressed thoughts and comments are so practical and true to life. May God keep on blessing your family.🙏
I'm doing as your wife suggested, I live in S.A., not far from the Barossa in a little rented villa. it only has a tiny little courtyard, but over time I bought some little raised garden beds on legs from Bunnings, and I'm using them, as well some large pots to grow a variety of veges and a few fruit trees, as well as a variety of herbs. I currently have a dwarf Mandarin lime, dwarf lisbon lemon and dwarf navel orange, and a finger lime, and miniature Nectarine that I've just bought and put in a large pot. I also have 2 olive trees in pots as well. I dont have a huge amount of veges growing due to my limited space but I enjoy picking and using what I do grow. and I love getting out there and tending them and watering them, its very relaxing for me. the beauty of this set up is that if I ever have move I can take it all with me as well.
Hi, new sub here from a South Australia. I just wanted to thank you for this episode, and couldn't NOT comment as I feel the same as you both - give me my garden any day over travel! 😍
A garden is a keeper of your sanity. Cheaper than any doctor and the side benefits of super fresh food and flowers on tap for your house and to give to friends and growing things is easier than most people think the basic rules are simple and as you pointed out little and often. I started at 3 andI am still going at just short of 73. My mother gardened til she was 95 and lived to 2 months shy of 100
Thank you for the reminder that a little bit of work here and there can and does make a difference in the garden! Sometimes as a beginner it can seem a bit overwhelming, particularly in the busy seasons.
I live in a rental property all by myself on an 800 sq metre block in Adelaide!! It's a housing trust so I can't change my situation!! But its taken me 4 years to set up just my back garden!! I am trying to save up for my own property...although don't think I'll get that far!! But I can dream!! But the watering in Adelaide....especially now!! Oiiiii!! LOL!!
Thank you for all the wonderful gardening tips. The ground covers are a great idea. Also love your sprinkler ideas. Very inspiring. Have a very blessed week and God Bless.
Thank you - it was great to see an update from you guys. I would love to see some of your sprinkler ideas and the names of those ground covers (flat ones ) ...
I live in a unit with a good size yard and have 7 or so fruit trees and 5 raised beds as well as a few ground level beds , and it is true there is no place like home .
Great garden guys! We've bought a property in northern Tasmania and can't wait to move down there and start gardening. Hope to meet you sometime, maybe one Saturday (I am making an intuitive guess you are SDA's? 😊, apologies if this is incorrect) Elena.
Love the video. Question, when you fill your raised beds what is your fill. And what is the yearly maintenance on them, that also is a question for the flower beds as well.
Our raised beds have been filled with a variety of things. But most often the native soil (clay based), topped with a garden loam and compost. Filling the base with old wood (hugelculture) works well too. Annual maintenance is the addition of compost and fertilizer (usually "blood & bone.")
Yes, most nurseries do have a rather "standard" collection of plants. Elisabeth frequently shops online at Garden Express and other specialty nurseries here in Tasmania, such as Woodbridge Nursery and Clematis Cottage Nursery to get the more interesting plants she is after.
