Excellent video. We don't get too much ice fishing down in South Florida. I'm looking at heading up to the Dakotas this winter for a few days of ice fishing. I've never been so trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks for the video.
A lot of the new product is arriving between now and mid November. Check with SCHEELS, Cabela's, Mills Fleet Farm, Thorne Brothers, Reeds or any of the major retailers as they should all be stocked up soon.
I wasn't planing on chasing big perch this ice season..... But I might just have to put some miles on now! You guys make a full time fisherman a bit jealous!
on your video you said 4 or 5 spikes and a little scent. what kind of scent are you talking about . I'm 60 years old and trying to learn different ways to catch fish . thanks for doing such a excellent job of educating us. keep it up.
Clam Conversion Plate and K Drill. Many major retailers that carry ice fishing equipment like SCHEELS will have them if they are not sold out for the season.
Would love it if you were able to show the actual forage food, those fresh water shrimp that you talked about. Sure had me curious what they look like and how they compare to your presentation.
I appreciate both replies. I was hoping for a better shot that shows the profile and not a ball of brown. I looked at it again, thanks for pegging the spot in the video.
just think this lake was closed this summer and can be closed at anytime now from the commission , plus 100's more lakes can be closed without outdoorsmen/women input. as of now over 11 lakes are closed. And a township is now closing off roads that lead to public lands and waters so they can claim the public land. I'm waiting for all these guides and tv show people to step up and ask our reps in pierre to get rid of the horrible water bill that privatize public trust waters just so a few people can have lodges and paid fishing.
Hidden Hill lodge has tried to privatize a WPA lake, federal land, by closing and vacating roads that lead to it. Lodges and guides want these lake private so we have to pay them to fish them . That is wrong when the supreme court clearly said all water is public trust.
We have posted information on our Facebook page concerning the non meandering water bill so concerned anglers can contact their respective SD State Representatives. I have sent a letter myself but also realize that my voice won't carry the same weight with representatives since I don't live and vote in SD. Most guides, lodge owners, guides and bait shop owners I know have been in touch with their state representatives. Don't know if paid fishing is the goal for people pushing this agenda as many lakes technically have more than one landowner to deal with and it is going to be really confusing for people to fish even if they had permission, as far as I know... the closed lakes are not being fished by anybody. We agree that it is an ugly situation and we don't like it either. The lake that this episode was filmed in is still open as far as I know. Good news is that there are still hundreds of lakes to fish.
over 10k acres of public waters is closed now, and after dec 13 over 3k more could be closed by closing the roads leading to them(most have public lands under them). Hidden hill lodge has tried this same thing, but we and the feds stopped them. 4 guide services that we know of support this bill so they can take the public waters and privatize them and charge(you can give a "club" fee and get around the current law, they are doing it already). I can't figure out why some guides want this bill, it only hurts them. Our family lost over 2k acres do to the floods on the farm. and in no way do we think the water should be only for certain people. I hope everyone gets behind some new legislation that will be coming up to balance the current bill out. I know of 4 small business owners that deal directly with outdoors people in NE SD and they have lost over 40% business and about to close up, after the bill was signed. The real issue is the GFP secretary, he pushed for this and so did the governor. Heipler is the real issue. He pretty much commercialize Alaska's salmon fishing and the locals were going to vote him out, but SD higher him away first. Time to write letters to the gov office and reps to get him out. Any errors I'm sorry, on road, to go fishing.
you are correct, I was thinking of a different cottonwood, I apologize , but this lake does have some private land under the water, and the landowner could at anytime close that part off and we can't do a thing about it. The lake right by HHL has been tried to be closed by vacating the roads that lead to it, which is the same as closing the lake, but the WPA(federal land) will prevent it or at least make it very very hard to post their land under the water. People have no idea what is about to happen if a certain amendment(certain group of lawyers) passes this feb. Its a amendment that will allow the closer of meandered waters as well. Their is already advertisements for "private lake lots for sale" in day county that has federal and state land under them. We need to contact every rep again very nicely and ask them to either get rid of the current water bill or add the 4 amendments that are coming to at least let the public petition to reopen the lakes based on certain history. If the water is to be closed and roads leading to public water, then the water should be closed to all including land owners under the water. The supreme court clearly ruled this way.
I just wanna say this is my favorite ice fishing video on RUclips.
Thanks for watching!

Meat Sticks! Hell yes!

👍😯 it looks like a cross between a Walleye and a perch that's probably what it is M. Jim Kcmo
That would be a cool fish!
Look up European perch. Very closely related to the yellow perch, but they get do much bigger.
That's why they get big and fat eating those fresh water shrimp, What body of water was this filmed ??
Lake Nunya
Where can I get a ice drill set up like the dewalt one in this vidow ????
It looked like a K-drill with the clam plate.

You mean like at 5:13
There is glimpse of one at the 5:13 mark. Looks like a regular shrimp to me.

I don't believe the lake in this video falls in this category and its nowhere near Hidden Hill lodge...?
