I kinda head-canon Urianger as a Goldsmith given that he "canonically" (It's in the Encyclopedia Eorzea) created the Moenbryda clockwork minion. He also was the first Arcanist to use amber as a conduit for summoning, creating the only amber carbuncle. It's reasonable to assume he knows a bit about gemology.
@@starofaetherius I can’t, watching someone else play is far more mayhem than I can deal with. That is why I am afraid to ask, I don’t know if I want to know… then again I’ve heard about it so many times and I need to know what people are talking about!
My crafting job of choice, I love the amazing breadth of creativity and the depth of precision that goes into it. And it is rather satisfying to listen to a goldsmith at work, from smooth sounds of material on the grindstone to the gentle tinks of their hammer, careful yet efficient
I always feel that Goldsmith should be the job of choice for Machinst arms. Hence why as a machinist main I took it as my second crafting job. The idea of using it to aid in making turrets and the internals of the guns felt more logical then a blacksmith doing so. I am split 50 50 on if they should make Gunblades for the same reason only well the blade has to be more in the thick of things. Great video as always and liked the little mammet voice.
I love crafting, but goldsmithing/gemsmithing/whatever-a-given-game-chooses-to-call-it has always been the one I find the most enjoyable. FFXIV is certainly my favorite implementation of the craft. I've made rings and semi-precious cabochons in RL and it can be extremely satisfying when you finish the polish on a piece and get to view it. That said, the craft is much less intense to practice in FFXIV. My Miqo'tes cute little "grrr!" face as she leans heavily into pushing the raw stone on the grinding wheel always makes me laugh.
Another excellent lecture! It makes me smile that that the name Mnejing was used, and a little said their fellow mammet in XI, Ovjang, is doomed to B-rank status out in the wild. Goldsmith is one of those jobs you learn early on are very important! They are useful for early accessories when you absolutely need them and work with a different set of metals than blacksmith does.
I also love and Mnejing and Ovjang made their way into XIV. Since the video mentions them being made use of in combat, I wonder if Puppetmaster was considered as a job in XIV at one point? I'm not sure what niche it could fill that's different since XIV is so much more active than XI was. We had a couple of extremely tricked out PUPs in my linkshells; one was specced as a black mage, and his puppet could sit under Jailor of Love and cast magic nonstop even when all the other DPS had to step out to dodge, so that was neat.
@@katarh I regret that I lost interest in FF11 before the last couple of DLCs came out. I have many fond memories of my journeys in Vana’diel but I struggled with the extreme dependence on other players and the endless grind of hundreds hours to get to lvl 75 which was the level cap for much of my time with the game. It resulted in so many long gaps between story missions that I simply forgot most of it and thus when I was able to continue I no longer understood what was going on. That aside I had great experiences, such as when ToAU was released and I was aboard the ship crammed with other players heading in the unknown. But FF14 is a much better fit for me and remains one of my favourite games.
I had the good fortune to study with a goldsmith at one point and love seeing what FF14 makes of professions I have a small acquaintance with. I love looking at their work benches in game and seeing what kind of tools they gave to them and what kind of work they are doing. They like to add real world details but ofc take off in a fantasy direction that fits the world they've built, and they've done a very thorough job of it.
Scribe I cannot believe I have to say this, but: DO NOT WEAR GLOVES ON A GRINDING WHEEL! the glove will snag on the wheel, and, if you are *lucky*, will simply remove the glove. If you are *unlucky*, your hand will be suddenly caught on the grinding wheel, moving at the speed of the wheel into its other mechanisms. Using gloves for hot metal is fine, but a grinder will maim you.
I took up GSM because as a free trial player I was very lacking in accessories. But then I found in the crafting log that I could make a Model Vanguard, and as a huge fan of magitek, I couldn't be happier. Unfortunately most of the wind ups are animated stuffed toys made by WVRs, but GSMing ultimately allowed me to cut down on costs and make buttloads of stained glass windows for that chapel I put in our FC House lol. GSMing really taught me to appreciate small but inticrate things, especially tiny gears in watches and ridiculous detail in rings and ear cuffs.
My character, Ashelia is a skilled Goldsmith who has her own unique mark that goes on every piece she makes. her specialty is jewelry such as flawless bands
Hey @Synodic Scribe i been wondering could you make a lore video on spirit bond and how it work? The concept is seeem fascinating but it exact mechanic confuse me it would be great if you can explain it.

And as Godbert showed in the Hildibrand questline, this is the only non combat job with a Limit Break
And is why Disciples of Hand are banned from combat trials. FAR too OP.
I want to know the context behind this, and frankly I’m afraid to ask… but I’m asking anyway, how did Godbert manage that?
@@rachelkelley5930 play hildibrand and find out :P

Well his wife did also.. so Goldsmith and a Chef.

Unfortunately, Godbert didn't get mention. Not even in the attire segment.

"There will never be another Mammet quite like Mnejing"
The world does not deserve more precious babies like him!
Vivi/Gigi was pretty close.
Dunno about precious or baby, he's more like the old coot at the machine shop who's forgotten more about the job than most will ever learn.

Goldsmithing was my first craftjng class and so will always have a special place in my recreation of Lakshimi's bosom.

Nice work covering this crafting class, loved the story at the beginning
I've wanted to find a channel like this for so long TT__TT these videos are so good. Love it!!!

I still really enjoy that they snuck a FFXIII/Hope Estheim reference into this job.
This channel’s so fun

Sure, I could explain spirit binding. It's a rather fun mechanic that's both cannon and an interesting game mechanic.
Great video !
Thank you ^^
