Re: community. 'Community' is very subjective, because a community is made up of different, varied people. Some are more giving with their time and tips, others will not spare you a second glance and some are in-between these two extremes. As it is, I can only speak from my own, limited perspective. My experience is that of kindness, patience and welcoming towards new players in the past 6 months. In regard to finding these lovely mentors, I suggest 1. Looking for a new-player friendly linkshell on your server (check for pearls at the linkshell congierge, ask around in the FFXI subreddit or on Bsky) 2. Asking questions on social media 3. Being a nice, normal person (impossible challenge, I know) "Why do I have to go outside of the game to find people to help me?" It's kind of how all online games work these days, I'm afraid. My point is those people exist; cast your net wide, be respectful and look for them. Many more people than just me love this game and want to see it not just continue to exist, but to thrive. For that, the game needs new players that'll stick around and have fun, and they're happy to help get you to a point where you feel like you know what you're doing. Put yourself out there. Reach out. Vana'diel awaits.
Thank you for this! FFXI is such a daunting game to make content for because there is so much to learn/talk about, so I comend you for your work. And, as usual, you've done a great job!
Daunting is an understatement, which makes your contribution to the community event all the more impressive! If someone's reading and hasn't checked out Vicenarian's channel, you are missing out. It's difficult to explain the feeling that you have when you play this game, but I feel like it has moved me so much that I can't do anything but try to explain and share it with others. Hoping to see more of your excellent work again in the future!
@@SystinaFF I played it back in 2008 for about 6 months... I loved the music and the world but my god everything was so much wooooooork. Even killing a beach crab took a full party of 6 at lvl 35 mithra thief. And you could never get your 2nd job as you could only do the quest when your faction controls certain regions. It's the kind of game I'd like to explore advanced areas but I can't imagine ever sinking back into it
Oof the music brings back memories. I was addicted to FFXI for a few years. A lot of good times but also dark times for me personally. Thx for the video.
I played this game couple years back and was instantly in love with it. Untill I got to the level 99 content. I would wait in jeuno for people's shouts for group but they all wanted "experienced" member for whatever they were about to do. I of course wanted to do it for the first time so I had no experience in anything therefore no one invited me in their group. I was so frustrated thinking how do they expect a new player to be experienced in something if no one would invite him into the group. I unfortunately had to call it quits in sadness. I felt like I was stuck in this weird limbo.
The Jeuno raids in FFXIV got a coworker of mine invested in XI. He asked me to play it with him since I had played it for about 10 years prior. Going through on a new character, I think it is so much more interesting how random quest tie into each other. We did warrior artifact gear where my coworker first learned of the Talekeepers and Raogrimm. Then we did Dark Knight Artifact where we got more details about Raogrimm and some of the events. Then we tackled the Magicite quest line, where he started to really see who Raogrimm was. It's great how no matter what you do in the game, it all ties together.
Got back in it this past February after 14 years, and omg it was like a warm hug coming home 😊 it's well worth it! I did get overwhelmed recently, still getting to 99 on my first job, but my friend said to relax and enjoy it. 20 years of content await in this adventure ❤
That's one smart friend right there! I only got my first job to 99 earlier in December, there's absolutely no hurry with that. You play on your own pace and I hope you keep on having a good time in Vana'diel!
I started in 2018. Seems like every 2 years I re sub to play about 20 hours or so. I see interesting things and meet lots of helpful veteran players who save my butt and give me all sorts of guidance when they realize I'm a noob. I think some time in January or February I will come back for some more.
If you want to get a headstart on that over the holidays, there's a free login campaign currently going on. The veterans are really good at saving butts, it's really nice! Huge thanks to all of them, always ✨️
speaking on the community, the issue you mentioned regarding it's size feels like it has the opposite effect on me. rarely ever do i find anyone who even bothers to chat, even in their discords. Often I am stuck to also figure things out myself or spend hours on google searching for the answer and unfortunately the hours on google happens to be more efficient.
I made it through all the story content and loved it. I stopped playing a few months ago because I struggled to find a group to do things with and I couldn't find any straightforward info on how to do things like getting the mythic weapon, other than "its hard, don't do it" but I think about the game a lot still and I kinda want to resubscribe before I completely forget how to play.
Well, you're in luck! There's also a free login campaign going on right now, so you can dip your toes back into it. I looked up how to make a mythic weapon, would this be helpful to you? www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Category:Mythic_Weapons
The best advice I can give for new players is to look up a tutorial on how to set up a controller. The game handles so much better on controller than mouse and keyboard
I helped someone with the final mission of the voracious resurgence and then immediately proceeded to fuck off, giving me all their gil once they finished the last cutscenes. Honestly, respect the decision as they experienced the full story and was content with not wasting time with the optional, excessive grind available.
Just wish the game was an offline single-player game, by this point. If the game is now designed to use Trusts all the way through, then they might as well make it to where you can access it offline and play without their servers.
It's technically not designed for trusts all the way through. There is undoubtedly content that cannot be handled with a group of six, especially five being trusts.
@@Seidragon The fact that you used the word "Technically" is enough for me. They should quit playin' around and either release a classic server or release an offline mode.
I've played both FF14 and FF11 and I always come back to FF11 like legit every time, I get burned out after a couple weeks in FF14 definitely don't want to speak ill of it because I have grinded in it something crazy but it's not really respectful to your grind in current expansions, because they consistently have you grind weapons just to not use them in the next expansion and I'm kind of done with that
Yeah, FFXIV doesn't have gear that you grind once and it's good forever (outside of Eureka and Bozja gear for that specific content), it's just different game design. Some people prefer XI's way! I myself am so out of the gearing loop on XIV that it doesn't even matter to me anymore, there'll be new crafted gear in a few months that'll be better than what I can currently get, so I have no desire play the game on that front.

@@SystinaFF Thank you for the kind feedback! This video so well captures that feeling I had during my first dozen hours in the game. Phenomenal!

I started about a year ago as a completely new player and I’m blown away at how much fun the game still is
Yeah! I find exploring the zones so fun and levelling alt jobs is the perfect chilling activity for me.

Very relaxing to be reminded of the new adventure through Vana'diel. Altana be with you, Sys!

Good job with the video here Sys. ^^ Very Simple and to the point.
Thanks Waba, I look forward to more Wabawabawaba carrying!
Wonderful video! Full of heart and great understanding of the magic of this game.
Thank you so much! Let's chat and go on a walk sometime to show people how wonderful it is together!
