    Leeroy- down below is right! The only way to make money on cows is simple.
    1. You own your cows and land outright. Oh don’t forget your equipment.
    Then farming is so easy anyone can do it, but if owe anymore than 25% of your businesses worth then you need to put on your seatbelt, and get to know Jesus. Cattle don’t talk to you, and neither will your wife if you lose your home to the bank, so yes don’t forget Jesus.

    If you can’t make any money with 100 cows. The logical thing to do is sharpen your shovel and expand to 300. That way you can go broke that much faster. It’ll be a bigger sell out auction when your foreclosed on so that helps
    At least the packers are profitable

    They what the cost was but not what they were selling for and with out that info there isn't a complete picture of what a prospect business owner would make.

    You cant make money if your running your operation just off average price to operate. You need to hustle and find the lowest price per head by searching markets and long haul nights. Doing this in accordance with buying low price bulk feed ,vaccinating/doctoring regularly, and always keepin a eye on the market so you can sell when the price is well over your profit margin.

    can you survive off of them, our goal is to have 175 head, how would we make out. Would we still not have enough to make a living?

      Vinny Fiorella Cattle are way underpriced when u sell them I can tell u that. You cannot hope to make any money if you buy corn etc to feed them for sure. I have raised cattle for 20 years and have never made enuff to live off of. Its a bad bet. The only reason I still have them is to keep the grass mowed down on the farm and as a hedge against lay off from my job. Kind of a quick money savings account. Most years are in the negative at the end. Meaning I funded my farm from my regular job. Unless cattle are near 2.50 a pound its nearly impossible to break even. Just a tax wright off.

      SmoothRide Yeah absolutely! .80 to 1.25 a pound off the farm. steak 16.00 to 20.00 a pound in the restaurant or some food markets.

      Leeroy excavator why don't you sell your meat on farmer markets or online if retail is where the profit is?

    Why does anyone own beef cattle if it is not profitable? This is about the 10th video I’ve seen that trudges through the costs. Wait until you figure out how to make money at it and then make a video.

    I can tell u from experience u cant make a living off of cattle especially if u had to start from scratch. They barely bring enuff at auction to break even. so unless u are in it for your own meat or just hobby save your money and time. Its too much work for the pay.

      Apparently 1/3 of the farms are making a good living off cattle. Leeroy do you buy all your cattle at auction to raise and sell, or are you breeding and growing them from birth?

    • @leeroyexcavator9149
      @leeroyexcavator9149 6 лет назад +4

      Davileet T...I raise my cattle from birth. If the farmers are raising cattle to live off of, they are also raising crops to up their profit, or in another sort of trade along with cattle in 99% of the cases. The only ones getting rich are the retailers like restaurants and groc. stores. who are getting 16.00 a pound. not the farmer who gets $1.00 or less sometimes.

      leeroy excavator Would raising the cows organically raise more money when you go to sell? I have been thinking about getting into farming and would be raising cattle. But I am also not opposed to doing multiple things like raising crops or other animals. I would not want to make this venture without knowing I could be making some money with just the farm. Looking at around 165 acres at the moment.

      Davileet T Personally if you're starting on 165 acres I'd consider choosing a different animal to raise. Cattle require a lot of space. But if you cant live without them I'd say raise them in a way that benefits your other livestock. Keep to grain free pasture raising and sell at a higher rate. Research how to make animals benefit each other as it's too much to put in one comment

      rotatioanl grazing is your friend. this WILL save you big time when you consider pasture maintance and winter time feed costs. its take some planning and management. you have to work WITH the herd and with nature.

    Total BS. One : you can't buy a farm and make a profit. Here's how to do I
    You rent the land with fence and water. Do not buy metal. Tractor. Have at least 40 cows you'll need at least 300 acres of good grass..... lease will cost about 6000 dollars....
    You'll clear about 30k a year...
    Just keep leasing land....

      you dont need 300 acres to have 40 cows

    • @Luckingsworth
      @Luckingsworth 3 года назад +4

      On 300 acres you can have 250 cows easily. You clearly don't know what you are talking about my man.
