    The United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK) is a science, education, and conservation-based advocacy for the responsible private ownership of, and trade in reptiles and amphibians. We endorse caging standards, sound husbandry, escape prevention protocols, and an integrated approach to vital conservation issues. Our goal is to facilitate cooperation between government agencies, the scientific community, and the private sector in order to produce policy proposals that will effectively address important husbandry and conservation issues. The health of these animals, public safety, and maintaining ecological integrity are our primary concerns.

    As mentally exhausting as these proposals against our industry, it’s good to see how many people are gathering in numbers against it. Let’s keep it up.

    Thank you Garrett, Phil and Daniel for keeping us all updated on everything happening to threaten our community and industry. The commissioners don't seem to understand that this isn't just about the business aspect, but also conservation and companionship as well. Without being able to ship animals over state lines, we lose the ability to get animals: proper veterinary care, proper housing and care by an experienced keeper who knows how to keep them safely, protect endangered species from extinction because they can't get to the proper facility, and there will be people who could benefit greatly from the companionship of a reptile or exotic animal both mentally and physically but if the animal can't get to them, those benefits don't exist.
    I sincerely hope Colonel Young really listens to people who are more experienced with all this and that we can work together to find a solution that protects Florida's ecosystem and the reptile and exotic animal communities as well.

    It's great that so many people showed up to speak up for the reptile keeping community. Also, not going to lie, but I utterly despise Rubio's amendment bill for the Lacey Act. It's another attempt to ban pet reptiles and hurt the exotic pet community for largely outdated and illogical reasons. Senator Rubio and the rest of our state and government leaders need to realize we in the reptile-keeping, bird-keeping, and fish-keeping communities love our snakes, lizards, turtles, amphibians, birds and fish as much as people who love cats and dogs do, and that the responsible owners shouldn't be punished with bills like this for the actions of a few bad and inexperienced owners among our communities.

    • @ernesteison7979
      @ernesteison7979 Год назад +1

      The legislation to amend the Lacy Act has nothing to do with outdated and illogical reasons. It's leveraged by bad science. The idea is that "exotic" pets escaping will destroy natural ecosystems and decimate native species. Don't blame politicians, they think they are protecting the environment. Blame intentional lies propagated by degenerated science. That is the real enemy.

    Fwc commissioner Barreto reveals that in their mind and spoken... killing a bunch of animals is not a big deal, and everyone is overreacting... i remind you that all of those animals were pets.
    He showed no compassion at all for any of those murdered animals, and his ready to do it again because April 5 and 6 was just a test imo...it's just a matter of time🤦‍♂️...please keep in mind that FWC is made up by developers that don't care about animals or habitats just power and legacies

    I wonder how pet owning staff at the FWC would say if someone came in to their home to brutally murder their cats, dogs and any other pet they may have??
    I myself am worried since in Sweden they are now going ovet the "L80" (it contains the rules and laws on how to keep exotic pets). There have also been rumors of creating a "whitelist" in the near future. So SHR (Sveriges Herpetologiska Riksförening) wich is the swedish eqivelent to US ARK is doing their best to be a part of the talks regarding the "L80" and they are also keeping an close eye on the rumors of a "whitelist" to be able to prevent it.

    It’s really sad that there are some irresponsible people that create angst for the rest of us. I have not kept reptiles for quite some time by choice, but it appears as though many people are looking to eliminate that choice. At some point I would like to get back into the hobby, but my preferred retirement destination looks as though it is going to make that difficult. Hoping that these pieces of legislation or the legislators proposing them go away. We can’t continue to have such utter ignorance rule our way of life.

  • @luwildy
    @luwildy Год назад

    Personally I don't think the ban is necessarily the issue with the April 6th thing. It's not that they passed new laws, it's that these keepers weren't able to get permits easily and that the consequence was to brutally murder these animals. There are better ways to euthanize and Chris had found these snakes homes in other states and wasn't allowed to get them there for literally no reason. That's the issue. Florida has a serious wildlife problem with invasive species I totally understand SOME of the laws and limitations it's just the way they're being put into effect that is wrong.
