By far the best chess channel to watch on youtube, cause Eric is so socially intelligent, the guy is just cool! Eric, thank you for you work! Keep it up!
Just imagine Aman and Eric back at their hotel after an exhausting day of crushing chess twinks, patting each other on the back, maybe getting in a shoulder massage or two. Coming back from the lobby bar they stumble into their room when Aman jumps Eric, arms around his neck and pinning him to the wall. They laugh and struggle as they fall over into bed, bodies linked together. Eric breaks free and tries to pin Aman back but the paintbrush twists out of his grip and tackles him by the waist. Both hazily aware of the rising heat in each other's breaths, the sensation of each other’s skin. Hansen finds his opening and pins Aman’s wrists over his head, straddling him. They catch their breath and smile at each other. “I win again,” Eric says. Then something unexpected happens. Eyes still locked, Eric slowly leans towards his roommate. Hambone’s mouth is suddenly dry, his resistance slacked. Their hands intertwine. Just then Omid and Kurt burst in with Jagermeister and Red Bull. Eric pulls off of Aman and straightens his shirt. “What the fuck were you guys doing?” “Wrestling”
It's because although Black wins a knight for a pawn; White gets a lot of long term positional compensation... an open e-file (if Black tries to block it with Ne5, then f4 opens it again or wins the knight back); a pawn on d5 that effectively stifles both of Black's bishops, but the main point is that Black's King is now stuck in the centre, it shatters Black's centre and White has "all the fun". The open diagonal makes Bh3 potentially lethal; Nd4-f5-? brings in more of White's reserves and if Black castles K-side, moves like Re4 quickly lead to mate. It is a typical sacrificial offer (that and Nf5) in a number of lines against the Sicilian; if Black continues winning material with Nxb2... then with Rxe7+ and Re1+ all White's pieces have a brilliant future while none of Blacks do and nobody wants that against a skilled tactician (like GM Hansen). A computer might take it, but it's going to be hell for a human to defend and I would guess the engines give White a plus after ed, ed despite being down a knight... In the game: Black's King never gets castled, White finds another way to open the e-file; it helps with the tactics being a GM who needs no encouragement to come forwards... but it is a known tactical sacrifice made for long term positional reasons.
It's so interesting that Eric casually beats seriously good players (maybe best in their hometown) but when he faces worlds number one (The Goat) it's literally same -if not higher- level difference between them. I mean, Eric plays extraordinary but Carlsen literally can eat him while he's sleeping. I just can't understand how rating system is so balanced, when you see some 300-400 elo diff, it's like Eric is playing with a computer. I'm sure Caruana, MVL, Ian would be same. Chess top 10 is on another dimension, completely different than rest of the world.

its enjoyable watching your videos but a lot of times the games are really fast for me to actually comprehand the moves why are done and how you come up with those really nice ideas and here i am at 900-1000 elo xd making blunders 24/7
Yeah it's good entertainment. I'd suggest Bartholomew, Yasser Seirawan, or Daniel King for some improvement. Watching GMs play is only entertainment, it's just too advanced to learn from in fast time controls
I don't know what it is, but everything Eric Hansen created has the very voice of creation itself embedded within. Not a spiritual man myself, but I undoubtedly believe there have been men in women in our history who were touched with gifts that transcend rational thought.
Bxd5, exd5, exd5, Bxd5 (threaten Qxf7), Rf8... There's a lot to think about, it gives white an excellent position for the price of a piece, though taking would probably be better than what he did
Am I wrong or did Eric missplay on 16:21? He could've played rook e3 if Bishop or pawn takes, he takes with his pawn on f2 and after that the queen on e3?
