    I appreciate the two videos (this one and the compressor replacement). Although I did not need to replace my compressor, I did need to replace my failed high pressure line on my 2013 Tacoma. Your instructions made the job go smooth. I ended up replacing both lines, the strainer, seals, added 2oz of PAG oil, held a deep vacuum, and charged with 22 oz of 134a. While I was at it, i also replaced the original serpentine belt with 125,000 miles of use, washed and oiled the drop in K&N filter, and cleaned up the engine bay (you know with all of that waiting around time). My AC discharge temps are now 50 at idle and 35 at cruising speed.

      @@garrett6743 , on my 2013 I had this exact same problem. For me it was a failed high pressure line. I could visually see fluorescent green leak indicator all over the line. I recently posted a comment to this video thanking KFlo and explaining the repair I made.
      Your problem (successive reduction in discharge temps) is most likely being caused by a reduction in refrigerant from a leak (somewhere in your system; either a line, seal, or component).

    It doesn't look like you
    opened the high side gauge at any point. Does it stay closed. Also, when you add the dye is this for future reference in case you get a leak. Thanks for a great video.

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  3 года назад +2

      You don't use the high side when loading. You load from the low side. You do open both sides when using the vacuum pump to remove pressure. The dye is for possible future leaks - it makes it easier to diagnose.

      The compressor's clutch wont activate of there's no pressure in the system. It's just an idler pulley until it's engaged.

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  4 года назад +2

      Gotcha. Here's a few thoughts:
      The expansion valve allows the liquid refrigerant to change to gas/vapor. If it's clogged at the strainer then that expansion is not as efficient.
      Another thought would be that your condenser may be dirty, you can spray that down first and hopefully that helps a bit.
      You can also double check to make sure all your connections are not loose.

    KFlo - had a leak in the condenser. Before I watched your video, I replaced the condenser and charged the system with a can and pressure guage. All went fine UNTIL the compressor seized and the belt started slipping. Now, i can still turn the clutch with some resistance on the compressor. Did my compressor go bad? I did not put any oil in the system when I changed the condenser. I did not suck the air out of the lines and I did not change the strainer. Looks like I have to replace the condenser, strainer, add fluid and replace the refrigerant per your video. Unless you think I can get away with replacing the clutch??? (wishful thinking, I know.) Stan from PA.

    • @KFloTacoma

      Technically you should go to your local AC shop to get your refrigerant removed. But if it's empty and there's residual, then yes the vacuum pump will pump it out completely

    Hello! I recently had my 09 Tacoma’s frame replaced under warranty for severe corrosion. After I got my truck back, I noticed the AC light was blinking and no cold air was coming out, mind you I didn’t have this problem before I took it in to replace the frame. I take it back to the dealership and they tell me the compressor is bad and want $2100 to replace it. Any suggestions?

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  4 года назад +1

      I would recommend performing the checks that I did in another AC video. If everything checks out ok (per the video), then you can just fill the System per this video and use the "leak stop R134" R134 is cheap and the work is pretty straight forward. The last thing you want to do is replace something because the dealer thinks that they can pull a fast one on you.

      Hi Nick, I know your reply was 7 months ago but let me share my experience with you. I also had my frame replaced and in order to do that they need to remove the condenser of the AC system. My AC worked fine before I had my frame replaced. The mechanic told me that my condenser was in bad shape and that it needs to be replaced. It was $450 so I told him no way. (I work for refrigeration company so I could fix myself). They never ended up recharging the system since I told them I don't want to replace the condenser. In your case, the blinking light means your clutch is not engaging. Let me tell you, DO NOT WAIT to fix it. That's what I did. Eventually the bearing on the pully failed, which caused it to fall off and I got stuck at the side of the road. And let me just say one more thing... buy an aftermarket AC unit. It's 1/3 the price. Dealerships make A LOT of money on parts sales. The company I work for makes huge money on service parts. Anyways hope that helps dude. Cheers

      @njh18 4 года назад

      william evans Thank you, I took my truck in last week and they said exactly that. The price was much better than what the dealership wanted.
