I read it cover to cover and learned a great deal. It will certainly help me develop my own style, which I believe was Jihn's goal in writing the book. Cheers to John.
Hi Doug, I bought Johns book a couple of months ago and although I love to watch YT vids I too enjoy to have the physical interaction of a good book, which this most certainly is. With Johns and your influence, inspiration and knowledge I feel my pen and wash has come on a long way in a couple of months, Thanks, Neil
After watching one of your videos where you mentioned various artists that inspired you, I checked out John's channel. i went on to buy his book and then was lucky enough to attend one of his workshops. it was a brilliant experience. Such a lovely man and so encouraging for the novice that I am. I learnt so much from the book too. Look forward to more of your reviews.
Everything you say about learning art from a book rather than just screens is so true. Books offer such a powerful distillation of process, and even from a resolution perspective there's nothing like it. Speaking of resolution, Doug may I ask what camera you use? It's SO crisp! (Asking as a fellow content creator looking to upgrade)
Hi Helen. I shoot on Canon 5D mk 4 bodies with all L series lenses. For most of my overhead art stuff I shoot on an ancient Samsung S10+ phone on 4K. I do tend to us a decent lighting and sound set up.
@@dougjacksonart Thanks for all the info, no wonder you have such a pro look to your talking head shots, they are top level! Sound is amazing too. Thanks for all you do, I look forward to your videos!
I have always & still love books! Luckily my daughter takes her sons regularly to their local book store, & I was just recommending books they read in 2018, „Little people, big dreams“! I at the moment have 3 books near me I‘m reading ( not counting my art books ), although I admit to having one on kindle too. Where I just gave this book a Quick Look at in. Thanks
@@dougjacksonart Nothing like the feel of a book! I‘ve 1 crate full in cellar, gave 1 full crate away, binned 1! ( I still hate the fact I binned them but, no one reads them here! ) Given many away. No one reads „English“ books here!
Hi Doug , yes, inspired by John’s work too, love his style. Got the obsession for materials, doing my own book binding too! I’m terrible for being to ‘precious’ as you say. Love your art Doug, thank you very much 😊
Thank you for your review & introducing us to the book & artist. A lot of big art channels review other artists books. I don't believe you're undermining your brand. Art isn't really supposed to be competitive. Theoretically, It's supposed to be communal where everyone gives everyone a boost & everyone prospers. The opposite of capitalism 👍🏽 Though there are plenty of unapologetic capitalists & capitalism in the art community motivated by tit for tat endorsements. That's a whole different story 🙄 I'm looking forward to your book (wink wink 😉) We amateurs (no art school) can ever have too many books in our arsenal to draw from & develope our own style, eventually.
Sorry to hear that Carlos. Sometimes life is all weather and changes and other times it can just be really hard. If you get chance find some quiet and make some art. It's always helps me. Hope things pick up for you soon. 🙏 🙂🙃
I love this book, it’s helped me so much. John is so unassuming and he clearly explains how he achieves his fabulous results, whilst encouraging you to develop your own style. I notice you’ve got a pic included in there Doug! :)
I consider John my mentor and his book is really great! After seeing some of his videos I immediately understood that ink and wash was the path I wanted to take. And let's not forget that I discovered you and your art through John... Thank you @JohnHarrison51

That's great! Yes he has a few good works to say about style.
I have added this to my wish list. Thanks.
Wonderful!
I ordered his book and checked out his YT channel.
Excellent

Wonderful! Yes I love a book too. Perhaps too much as our house is pretty much wall to wall bookshelves in every room 🤣🤣
Thanks a million for that, Doug. Not sure if I'll find that book here in France but could certainly order it, looks brilliant. Cheers
You are most welcome John ☺
Thank you for the review. I'm about to order it.
Hope you enjoy it!
A wonderful review, on the back of your recommendation I bought a copy. It arrived today and I’m exceptionally pleased, thank you.

I love a really book but regret not buying a kindle all those years ago as my book cases are all creaking now. 🤣🤣
