We really need to give props to hair colorist that really try their best to go with clients' difficult wants and expectations!! They deserve the utmost respect.
Cosmetology student here! Basically the reason this worked is because orange and blue cancel each other out due to them being across from each other on the color wheel. It’s basic hair coloring and I’m not sure why the hairdresser thought the orange/ red wouldn’t take. Usually tho when colors cancel out it turns kinda brown cause it goes back to a baseline. This is why when you bleach orangey/ brassy hair you tone it with blue or purple and that usually regulates color.
I think that's actually why she thought it might not take. If the blue had been too strong or dominant it wouldn't have been as vibrant. Sadly that did keep happening as it faded, where the ends would continually turn a mushy green color
blue is such a difficult color to get out (i say this from experience). bless your heart, your hair looks stunning though! that orange really suits you!
It definitely is! I'm super happy that I managed to get most of it out. And thank you!!! I have since switched hair colors again but the ginger will always be one of my favorites :3
Hmm, same light bright blue problem following bleach. I thought that warm orange red would be the best thing, and here is your video! Tomorrow I will get the things to change it. You look absolutely lovely!
@@Claudia-kz7gi did it work? I'm going to do the same wothout bleaching it. Like, I already bleach it and it turn out a light color but still a little blue
@@reynaldosoles7759 it didn't. I tried it at home and my hair turned green and I can't take it off no matter what I do. I'll try going to a hairdresser this week to fix it
I want to go this colour from green, hair dresser said the same yours did and won’t touch it, so I’m trying to do it myself over the next week. Also the orange/ ginger with the bangs suits you so much better than the blue did (it was still nice)
Since your hair was just bleached to that light minty bluish/greenish color, it was really porous so I'm not surprised the orange and red stuck so well. I understand not wanting a muddy color but the hairdresser may not have taken into account the fact that freshly bleached hair is very porous and will take vibrant colors really well for the most part. Im glad you stuck with your guns and asked for what you wanted ! It looks really nice.
I was a ginger once, but i got tired of the color and that's when the trouble began: i used a product called Dekapcolor to erase the red and make me go back to my natural dark blond, then i dyed it "Pure blond" and finally...Blue! But i got tired again and i tried to get back to my ginger days but...My hair's got totally fucked up,i don't even know which color it is now. Help me!!!
I would personally recommend going to a hairdresser and taking the boxes of the dyes you used with you! Blue is very hard to remove and the chemicals from multiple types of dye can have an effect on each other. I would not have been able to change my hair so drastically without the expertise of my hairdressers!
Oaklight I did get some patchiness because I missed some hair on the first go on the red color and my fiancé had to help me with another round but it’s okay since If i curl my hair you can’t notice too much and I’m hoping it will fade a bit and the next time I color, it will even out
No offence but your hairdresser sounds a bit crap. They should know the colour theory where orange counter acts the blue just like purple does for brassy/yellow hair.and so on. It’s a shame that she bleached it
+mimi mizen she was incredibly nice and there was no other way unfortunately. Trying to dye it orange with the amounts of blue that were in it would have made it grey or green. It still turns green sometimes and it would have been worse if it was darker. I honestly didn't mind at all and I'm happy with how it turned out.
exactly what I was thinking, I had a turquoise-y blue in my hair the first time I dyed my hair ever and I wanted red next and basically my hair stayed blue and I was so scared that the red wouldn’t take and it did! over the years of dying my hair I know to refer to the color wheel all the time, it’s a shame that the hairdresser didn’t refer to it much either, even if she had her do more of a red tone than orange
Im a hair stylist. Using the opposite colour will not remove dye from your hair. It can certainly help but you almost always need to bleach it, especially with blue.
It would counteract it yes but that wouldn’t result in a vibrant ginger, it would result in a murky brown that you then wouldn’t be able to correct without, you guessed it. Bleach.
Your hair dresser put you through so much unneeded anxiety. Red and orange is the perfect color to tone out blue because they're on opposite sides of the color wheel.
If you were to want to go brown or grey, yes, but I wanted VIBRANT orange which is more difficult if you're coming from the other side of the color wheel ;)
It depends on how bright both colors are. A lighter green with a more intense orange type copper would work best, the other way around would probably not work out so well. Best idea is to try a strand to see how it turns out before doing your entire hair. Hope it works out for you!!
Struggling rn😭😭 I’ve been using the color wheel to get different colors so I was pink -> blue -> purple this month and now I want orange 😭😭 I went blue because I hadn’t in so long and it’s all coming back as to whyyyy
I bleached my hair myself 5 times with 40 vol developer and it didn't turn to goop .. it was damaged and very split but salvagable. Not everyone can afford a tonne of money at the hairdressers so 🤷
For me it was the combination with the chemicals from henna interfering with the bleach, not the amount of bleach 😉 I didn't know that could happen either but it was really crazy. For me it's a personal choice to be careful with bleach but that's always been the case since my skin is fairly sensitive. And honestly I would not be able to afford this anymore at this time, I feel you 😭 Hope your hair turned out well! 🙌 ✨
+Haley Scalf ohh that's beautiful! Luckily it shouldn't be too hard to go backwards and forwards between those two colors :) good luck with the dyeing! I hope it turns out the way you want it! :D

Thank you!!! It's definitely a big change! I sometimes see the ginger hair from the corner of my eye and still wonder where the blue went because I was so used to it! xD I'm so incredibly glad it survived so well! Definitely going to make sure it stays this happy :3
That colour is amazing in you! I literally tried EVERYTHING you mentioned. I refuse to bleach mine though so im glad to know it didnt work because it went to the colour I am expecting it too! I have one question, is/will the ginger/red washing out back to the green or is it gone for good due to the colour wheel?!! :-/
Just an assumption, I’m doing research myself but my impression is that it will fade into a strange brown that MIGHT still have a green tinge... if you dye it orange again it should cancel out the green completely and when it fades should be a brown.
Ok I know this vids old but I neeed to know what that gorgeous lip color is lol !!!! You looked amazing as a ginger btw !!! I’ve just gone ginger recently n that’s how I’ve stumbled across your vid ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! Good question. I checked for you and it's a Rimmel London lipstick in the color 128 Starry-Eyed. Not sure if they still have it, but I hope they do!
If you can I'd recommend going to a hairdresser to be sure it turns out how you like it. If you're not able to you might be able to do it yourself. If it's grey you should be able to dye straight over it, and otherwise a slight yellow toner might turn the purple more grey and then you could go to the ginger as well. It might not be as bright if the grey is darker but it should do the trick. If it's dark you'd have to bleach it but that depends.
+Tyranosandrius Rex unfortunately it didn't for me, it only turned dark green or very dark brown which is not what I wanted. If you want to have darker colors the bleaching indeed wouldn't be necessary, just depends on what you want ;)
It wasn't. As someone with knowledge of colors and pigments it would have turned gray at best. It actually still turns green sometimes after having dyed it red multiple times so I believe it was a good choice :)
I know that this video is a few years old, but the entire time I kept thinkinking … “ Wow this persons hairstylist just did not know about color theory … embarrassing for the hairstylist !!! “ Orange/ red/ pink tones cancel out blues/Greens and vise versa, shure you might not get the exact tone that you were after if you’re trying to make a color change that big, but it can absolutely still be done … you can still achieve a tone in the same color family that you’re after once you fade and strip out as much pigment left from you’re prior color as you can, then put you’re new desired color on there and choose a brightness/ darkness that would follow the leaval of prior pigment that you were able to remove. THERE WAS NO NEED TO PUST THIS CLIENT TO TEARS. Just pure ignorance on their hairstylists part.
I see your point, but we got to where I wanted so no worries about me. And I still like the hairdresser, this was quite frankly a near impossible ask on my end so I get why it was that hard :')
