I got mine as my dad was building a house for our high school wrestling coach who didn't have money for building materials at one point. My dad took his '67 Beetle as payment. He gave it to me to use to get myself to school and then to my first job two towns away as I worked at a Faux Marble counter tops and vanity tops manufacturing shop. Loved that job and that car!
He was crazy.... not stupid.
VW was privatized after the war.

The British Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) restored the bombed out factory in 1945. It had been converted to war supplies. This as handed back to Germany in 1949.
