    Hehe... When I played Romancing SaGa 3 many years ago, that Destroyer was legimatively the definition of earning your good ending.
    Especially if you do not weaken this Cloud of Darkness expy, by defeating the 4 bosses.
    A shame that the Cloud of Darkness was invincible by default in FF3.

    haha I did this when I was in middle school... this is the hardest boss fight I fought as inexperience JRPG player... taught me many things. I'm glad I played it.

      Yeah, excluding secret bosses from FF series or DQ series, this is the most difficult last boss in jRPG I’ve ever encountered.

      @@Catzillator That maybe true. I feel that those secret bosses require some ad hoc tricks and if you adopted the trick, it is not that difficult. I never fought full power, but just half power made me realize how hard this is. I collected most techs with decent magic levels and this was enough to beat merged seven heroes in RS2. But I got into a problem even when fighting against the female boss who use wind element.

      Shinryu was a surprise until i found that a certain gimmick absorb water damage they he was a matter of hard hitting boss that never have chance against Bartz party...
      Ozma... wiped me the second turn when he pleased though.

    I was unaware this game's premise isn't about a long journey. The setting of Romancing Saga 3 is actually about the world being destroyed and rebuild every 300 years! So this the only game in the series to have post-apocalypse scenario midway. I am having Devilman Crybaby and Violence Jack flashbacks. By the way, I already watched the 10 episode anime of Devilman Crybaby. Unlike the ending of the manga and Romancing Saga 3 which had a bittersweet conclusion, Devilman Crybaby on the other hand, ends in a dark and ambiguous ending.

      SaGa 1 definitely deals in apocalyptic scenarios from the mid-game on up. SaGa Frontier 2 kind of does in the backstory.

    Hmm ok who is your main character here? Sara? Thomas is my main, but then when I get pulled through the portal I have to. I've gotten used to (and relied heavily upon) Commander mode in play through, so am I now stuck not being able use it for the final boss because Thomas is my main?

    • @valdegard

      Sara exclusive sadly, and she gets a much better version of it.

    I just beat this game last night and I have to ask: How in the world do you get combo attacks and how do you change formation mid-fight? I never had those options!

    • @valdegard
      @valdegard  4 года назад +1

      If you remove your main character from the formation, you can access a special Commander Mode, where characters act automatically according to certain stratagems but in return get various bonuses. Sarah gets a special version of the Commander mode for her final battle, in which you get all the bonuses (including combo attacks) while still being able to individually command each character. This is pretty useful, which is why I decided to do it for my fully powered Destroyer run. Someday I'll attempt the Destroyer with a regular party!

    Love that you took this on. I need to get much better at these saga games. I'm about to head into the final dungeon on this playthrough with the remaster....but I never touched my magic and feel I need to level that up a bit.
    Or I should have taken on party members that had those skills developed, I dunno.

    • @valdegard
      @valdegard  4 года назад +4

      Many schools don't need a dedicated stat to make use of, for example Fire you're really only using for Revive and possibly Wall of Fire, neither of which requiring a high Shucho stat. Similar with Wind, if you're not using Tornado. You don't even need a huge investment into Moon before Lunar Light becomes sufficient healing. It's more important to have the options and some extra MP to fall back on than grind the skills out entirely.

      @@valdegard reloaded an old save. Spent the money on shadow servent for a few members. Got my MP up to about 40 a piece, and then had enough to roll my way to the end.
      Shadow servent and revive were the absolute must have spells. I don't remember shadow servent being as useful in saga frontier - pretty sure SFs shadow servent went away with any type of hit, IIRC. Nice to know magic attacks didnt dispel it here.

      @@valdegard huge help with RUclipsrs like yourself showing the way. Makes tough games like this easier to approach.
      And it's very rewarding - niche games like this give a unique experience that, even 25 years later, are rewarding in ways games like FFXV just can't give you.
