- Google Zeitgeist is a collection of talks by people who are changing the world. Hear entrepreneurs, CEOs, storytellers, scientists, and dreamers share their visions of how we can shape tomorrow.
anyone can look back and seemingly piece together a puzzle that seemingly makes sense. This is just about as rigorous as a college student's presentation. Expect Ferguson has the ability to make it sound like rocket science.
Rocket Science? It wasn't that difficult to grasp.
He forgot to add that during and around 1870's USA became the largest economy in the world and kept growing afterwards.
Everything Mr. Ferguson says just makes sense!
Niall Ferguson is most certainly on the right track here, as there are such strong parallels to be drawn between Trump and Kearney. In fact, for those who are interested, here's a rather informative first hand account, written at the time, by the political economist, Henry George: www.sfmuseum.org/hist9/hgeorge3.html
Which, oddly enough, brings me to the question I'd be itching to ask Niall: If Trump is the modern Kearney, who does he imagine might be our Henry George? I'd ask that, as you never hear George mentioned these days, yet he was a towering figure on the political landscape, in his day, and had the peculiar distinction of achieving his popularity and influence by doing the exact opposite of men like Trump and Kearney.
Immigration was quite high in the two decades following WWII; the baby boom among Americans pushed the overall percentage down.
00:12:12 "Anything Putin is in favor of, you should be against [...]"
A strange statement from the man speaking about populism and its dangers.
didn't explain why/if working class should have opposed kearney
The interesting thing about 1872 is that charts of incomes for Citizens for this years rised a lot. If you see separate charts on that. Its hard to say how much of a crisis it was. It eas a crise for the banks and the financial institutions, but still, people was immigrating to the USA. So USA must have been better than Europé anyway.
The opposite of populism is elitism.
What if one views populism as tribalism?
There's a certain smug "globalist" tone to your comment. Do you have something against tribalism?
I do. And so should you!
@@norunnerup And the opposite is oligarchy. The rich hereditary socialist chiefs over the tribe. Big Mother is watching you.
As I remember, Kearney up and disappeared. Not a trace.
But Trump IS AND WAS AN ENTERTAINER. This is the essence of him. One can be an entertainer and a serious politician at the same time.
"That Niall Ferguson, he's so Hot right now!"
Please study -RUclips: Pyramids and Ethos Genesis Documentary and “ It will be don by 2030” and Global Spiritual Awakening .
Elites huh?
presently we are stuck with Trump saying this and that and perhaps he will tweet something :)
A title " American Leaders of Our time" would have been more appropriate
So populism is right wing anarchy?
If we don't get Brexit, we are doomed. Something Niall can write about when he is old. His wife is too good for him.
He ignores the fact that in the other side of the US election is Hillary and Obama
