Oh man, I was like 5 years old when I played the demo for SoF1 back when GFX cards still came with those demo disks. 2 decades later, I am still absolutely impressed at how well both SoF1 and 2 have aged in terms of presentation and, in my opinion, unrivaled gore systems still to this day. Great review, took me down memory lane for a bit!
Keep it up mate! Great nostalgic reviews! A fellow aussie of your generation here aswell. Game demo CDs. Really regret throwing out all my PC Powerplay magazines from when i was a kid!!
Played it so much on my Dreamcast. Still have it and sometimes i boot it and it's always so much fun. Despite the ludicrous (and super noisy) loading times on the DC.
The sequels had some of the most enjoyable multi-player of any game of their era. We used to LAN in my garage and played it for hours. The first one though, man, definitely was something new. My parents were super anti violence, so this was one of those I played when they weren't around which is probably why I never got very far in the story. I mostly remember wasting all of my shotgun ammo testing the dismemberment system 😂
Ahhh yes, reminds me of a time growing up when my parents asked me if I knew anything about this 'Doom' game... Nope... never heard of it Mum... is it any good? Because I certainly don't have it installed on the family 386 ;)
@@azordash_games my man 😎🍻 The early days of computers when it was just us geeks, dorks and nerds that understood those things was great. I'm glad tech has evolved, and sure, most people don't understand Windows beyond how to open a browser, but there was something almost... arcane about it back in the day. Anyway, nice channel mate. Great video essays. For a starting channel, you already have extremely high level editing and audio quality, and you're writing is quite good. Tickling the nostalgia in just the right places while keeping it fresh enough for newer curious audiences. Happy to be in early enough that I can be this personal and not get lost in the noise and looking forward to what I sure will be a meteoric rise in the space.
I was lucky that my parents didn't really have any idea how to use a computer... let alone see what was installed, although today they both use Smartphones, so go figure.... Cheers for the very kind words. I tend to use one thing as my guide for making a video and that's 'Would I enjoy it?', because retro, gaming & all things which you would generally associate with that are all topics I love. I love reading people's comments, especially when they share their own experiences, and hopefully, I'll be able to continue to do that :)
I did enjoy SoF. As you say, it's a bit like a James Bond game in some respects. I've not played SoF2 yet, although just bought a copy. Hopefully it will be good too. Have you played the two excellent "No one lives forever" games?
Oh I love the NOLF games! They just seemed so far ahead of their time story and narrative wise. You're in for a treat with SOF2. It's 'arguably' the better game compared to the original SOF.
I'd like to see an official HD Remaster for Soldier of Fortune 1&2 for current consoles and pc. There's M rated games today that don't have the gore/dismemberment these old games have. Shame there isn't a spiritual successor to Soldier of Fortune. Even most indie FPS games keep copying Doom/Quake. And yeah, avoid Soldier of Fortune Payback. It's not good and wasn't made by Ravensoft either.
SoF is better than any Call of Duty, imo. Thought I'd mention since I'm not sure if you're aware, leaning in this game is kind of OP. It allows you to see and shoot enemies but for some reason they can't see you. It makes guns like the sniper rifle and even the pistol and throwing knives extremely useful on higher difficulty settings since you need to be more stealthy. You can also kill the heavily armored rocket launcher enemies with a headshot using the sniper rifle.
I don't trust ratings personally, but Payback is kind of dull. The guns feel and sound great but that's about it, and you don't even get to play as John Mullins. It also infuriatingly ends on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.
Excellent! I had totally forgotten about this game but loved it!!
Glad you enjoyed it!

You’re absolutely right, SOF2 is my favorite, I felt the whole story was really well done too and it still stands up today!

Cheers mate! Glad you enjoyed it.
I once had an almost complete set of HYPER magazine, somewhere along the lines it got dumped by accident 😮💨
@@azordash_games Hyper was also good. Had some of those too. The things we throw out in life and regret later! CRTs anyone!!

The pistol is called a black panther and based off a glock. Not a 1911

I would love a remake... outside of the graphics, the game has aged pretty well, far better than the base Quake 2 in my opinion.
@azordash_games, I agree. Quake 2 has a great soundtrack, but I prefer Soldier of Fortune.
Singularity is worth a review too.

Interesting! I remember reading about leaning in the manual or perhaps tutorial but then never actually used it! Cheers for sharing!
I've always seen these games, but I've never played them. Must have been too busy with Halo 2, lol.
The first one is the best… the second is not too bad and the third I have never played.
"I never actually played due to poor reception". what kind of a mainstream baby are you?

@RevengeOfTheKaizer I will definitely check it out one day… just a matter of taming the large backlog I already have 🫠
