    Finally! A woodworker that puts the vises in the “correct” orientation on the workbench. Southpaws are the only ones in their “right minds” 😁.

    Great videos, thanks Courtney. I'm interested in building my own bench in the next year and have been looking at a lot of Roubo videos. I've thought that it would be a good idea to put my leg vise on the front right leg of the bench as I'm left-handed and I'm pleased to see that you're left handed and did that too.
    I hope I make a bench 1/10th as good as this!

    I vacillate between this design and the latest Schwarz release of the Anarchist Workbench. I like the idea of a non-split top which leads me towards the anarchist bench but then I really like the idea of a dog hole and wagon vide set up which leads me back to the benchcrafter roubo.
    This is a gorgeous split top though, well done.

    • @StarrWoodworks

    I have reached the culmination of finally assembling the bench build. The slabs are assembled, every part is mortised, and both the tail and bench vise are installed. Before i assemble this beast, I want to plane, sand, chamfer, and apply preliminary finish. The species of wood for both the base and tops is ash. Hence my question. Could you share what product you used to finish the top portion of your bench. I do prefer to retain the natural look of the ash. Thanks.

    • @StarrWoodworks
      @StarrWoodworks  Год назад

      Go with Osmo 1101 extra thin. Just one coat should be fine. It will give it nice protection, beautiful look, and MOST importantly it will not be shiny or slippery. DO NOT sand the top of your bench smooth. You want it to be grippy. If you already have, no worries, just sand it again using 80 grit sand paper.

      @@StarrWoodworks Yes I’m making a split roubo that’s an alteration to the bench Tom McLaughlin, Epic Woodworking built. Tom’s design has a tool tray that I dont want. The split style will be easier for me to handle too. I’m using Hobarter vises, ash top. I didnt notice how you made the split section insert. Do you have photos of how it goes up and down? I see that you posit a question about, "What is a Roubo Split Top workbench?. So you showed us a leg vise, that you put your leg into, hahahaha. Then a tail vise, where you sat to squeeze your tail,... again hahaha. Then you showed us lag screws and bolts the hold your bench together, oh... and an ancient invention.. called a shelf. It's all very Purdy, but I'm still wondering,... what's the purpose of the split top???? Is that where you lose your tools, or are the wood chips supposed to fall off the workbench down into the drawers and shelf. Two guys work across the split top and share the tools??? So... WHAT WHAT WHAT IS A ROUBO SPLIT TOP. ??????
