      @bluestReacts I don't have any way to contact you, so I am dropping it here. I just started watching this anime a few minutes ago, originally aired in 2017. I thought you might want to try it in your free time. Title sounds a bit morbid but ep.1 seems quite wholesome. Title is "What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?" I have no idea what it is about, but it gives me similar vibes to Freiren. It is airing (legally) on the RUclips channel Muse Asia. See you at the next reaction video.

    I love how unhinged the magic can get in this show. Ubel is just walking menacingly using Sukuna's domain from JJK, the glasses guy made a clone since the exam started, the last guy raised a mountain with one word.
    Lugner has a spell that just makes as much blood as he can control at will, Aura can just control an army of corpses with no issue.
    I can't wait to see more of how magic works in Frieren.

      It really feels like there is a spell for quite literally anything you can think of, as long as you can get your hands on the grimoire for it

  • @spccew9818
    @spccew9818 8 месяцев назад +10

    Unnecessary in the sense that Ubel didn't need to die for the exam, for them to pass the test. The test only requires them to capture a stille and have all members of their party present. If Ubel attacked him, it would be necessary to kill her in an act of self defense.
    That's how I interpreted that

  • @zam023
    @zam023 8 месяцев назад +7

    11:38 Becomes a "necessary kill" because he has to defend himself and that includes killing Ubel, which he gave up on earlier because it was an unnecessary kill.

    Ehre is actually doing a good tactic here. Her specialized magic is basically throwing stone, so the moment battle start she fly to take the highground (gravity help improve her falling stone power). But her opponent is Fern so.. yeah

    6:36 Ubel figured out that Weibel needs to keep her whole body in view for the binding spell to take effect. Imagine what will happen when you walk closer to a person. You can only view part of their body and thus the spell become useless. That was why Ubel wanted to close the distance. This is the also reason why Weibel could not take the bird away by himself, because he would have to close the distance.

  • @zam023
    @zam023 8 месяцев назад +3

    8:42 I agree with you about Weibel. He does not kill unless he has to, hence the title: Necessary Kill. Interesting character, and he earned my respect.
    9:58 Remember when Freiren first met Fern. She said she had a hard time finding her because she could sense Fern. Yep, Fern is better at hiding her mana than Freiren.

    Sense and Genau have differing opinions on how the exam should be conducted. I think there is truth to both sides of the arguments.

    • @zam023
      @zam023 8 месяцев назад

      Basically, what Sense said is similar to what Bluest said at the beginning of the video. Even among the proctors there are two different views.

    • @xAsianish
      @xAsianish 7 месяцев назад

      Truth, although humanity would benefit more from not killing off the already somewhat low number of mages. That's why Sense is not the only one who shares this view, but even great mages like Frieren and Richter also disagree with unnecessarily killing off mages for testing them.

    Headcanon: the stille are friendly with the proctors, or in some way are aware that the proctors are not actively hunting them like the examinees are, and that's why they just chill out around Genau and Sense. It wouldn't make much sense for those two to undergo the high amount of effort we know is necessary to suppress their mana so completely, just to score a few Disney Princess poses with the stille while they're trying to oversee the exam.

  • @1idd0kun
    @1idd0kun 8 месяцев назад +2

    Fern is definitely better at concealing her mana than Frieren. Remember when they first met, when Fern was just 8 years old, Frieren said that Fern was hard to detect even for her.

  • @markvicferrer

    The test proctor is a jerk for letting these mages die. The worrying part is that the test is open to as low as a fifth class mage. Slight spoilers, but every mage character with voice lines has been third class or higher, so some of the washouts might have simply been at a lower level.

  • @mikefromwhere
    @mikefromwhere 8 месяцев назад +3

    I agree that it's a waste to let mages die in this exam, a 3rd class or a 2nd class mage is better than a dead one. And yeah, this is partly because there is no demon king to antagonize.

      @@Алексей545-т6б Just to add to what you have said. For me I see it this way. For those who rush into a dangerous situation that is the 1st Class mage exam, will no doubt rush to their death in a similar dangerous situation outside the exam. Worst case scenario, unlike in the exam, these mages might put innocent people in mortal danger.

    • @psk.d4773

      Judging from how brutal this exam is, I doubt that Serie the founder would care about them, I think she would gladly sacrificed 100 or even 1,000 of third or second class mage only to create one first class mage.
      Moreover, these mages will die soon anyway because the lack of awareness.
      If they're not aware enough about how strong they're compare to how dangerous the first class mage exam is then they will die soon someday in the future anyway.

    • @xAsianish

      @@psk.d4773 Serie cares more about magic than humanity though, which is why she views humans as expendable for the sake of magic. **Spoiler** That's why Flamme said Serie was not a mage for the era of peace. She'd rather the Demon King thrive for the sake of magic. **Spoiler**
      It'd be more beneficial for humanity to preserve the already low number of mages in their arsenal. That's probably also why great mages like Frieren, Richter, and Sense do not agree with unnecessary killing off mages for the sake of testing them.

      @@pbgamer25 Well I'm not mad just stating as a manga reader that i consider this to be a spoiler. Since the relationship between Serie and Frieren is as of now speculative. To me, I think it's a bit spoilers too since her relationship with Frieren, how important Serie is, and how strong she is will be reveal in the future anyway and saying something that the anime didn't tell you yet but will tell you in the future is surely a spoiler.
      What you saying is not a big spoiler but still a indirect spoiler that can lead to be spoiler and it gonna reducing the hype for people who watch it.
