Good job comparing! I think you already had an awesome image to begin with. Maybe the comparison wouldve been more evident in a one shot color with small integration time 🙌🏼

Thanks for all the heavy lifting you’ve done to make these comparisons! Your videos are VERY helpful!

Very good video and comparison. I have been using TopazDN for a few months and it has given me excellent results. It is true that it generates unwanted artifacts. I have managed to reduce that to a minimum by previously applying a traditional noise reduction to the image with AtrousWavelesTransform. This allows me to perform a noise reduction with Topaz using only 1 as the value for “Remove Noise”.

From my limited testing I think Topaz did a decent job of noise reduction and with the enhance sharpening set very low the artifacts were minimal. I tried not to be too harsh in my criticism, I hope that came across in the video. What I did notice though and mentioned in the video is that the noise reduction doesn’t seem as consistent across the image as in Noise X but perhaps with traditional linear noise reduction before applying Topaz that isn’t an issue.

No one does these reviews as well as you do. I would be interesting in seeing how the noise reduction compares to your use of multiscale linear transform. Thanks for a great video, add ten minutes B roll of a dog running around and you could top the ratings.

Thanks Ian, that is some mighty high praise! I could definitely do a video on MLT/TGV or MMT/TGV via the Jon Rista method and compare to NoiseX. I feel purely anecdotally that if I took the time to really do the Rista method properly it would easily match NoiseX. But carefully zeroing in on the values for MLT and TGV is just screaming for AI, which is pretty much where NoiseX comes in. Took me a a few moments to cotton onto the dog reference haha. Thanks again.

@@PaulymanAstro I just tried StarTerminator and was so impressed I bought it immediately, no need to wait the thirty days. Thanks so much

Another good video. Like you say Noise XTerminator was created just for AP. Plus Russell produces top quality products (got all of them). My friend Martin told me the weather has improved in AU. Hope you are back to imaging!

It is a temporary reprieve I fear. All the markers are swinging back towards another La Niña forming in the next month or so. I agree with Russell producing some great products, I love Star XTerminator as well.

    Very interesting video.
For newbies like me, I just want to mention that Noise X Terminator does not have a stand alone version, Topaz does. So you need another software to load the plugin for Noise X Terminator.
    Thanks

I’ve been using the trial for a while but thought I’d wait until I actually purchased it before showing it off. I’m sure you will love it.

Thanks for the video . Been using topaz in PS for quite a while with good results but have noticed the uneven reduction across the image so I do a lot of masking and such. I just started using NoiseX and like how you can do it in the linear stage in PI, although topaz apparently can do that as well. Cheers

Thanks. I use Topaz sometimes for my landscape and macro photography, seems to work well there. NoiseX just leaves it behind for astro though.

nice comparision =) If u want to make a better image comparision u can first match the view on the 2 images then put them over eachother and then press CTRL + pagedown fo blink the images.

Ah yes, I forgot about blinking the images like that. That would have worked nicely for the Topaz and XTerminator comparisons.
