THE UPLIFT PROJECT JOURNEY

Over the course of its four-year journey, UPLIFT (sUstainable PLastIcs for the Food and Drink Packaging Industry) has tackled one of the most pressing challenges in recycling: dealing with complex plastic packaging materials, such as multi-layers, blends, and additives. These materials are often landfilled, incinerated, or end up polluting the environment. UPLIFT has developed innovative biological processes to depolymerise bio- and fossil-based plastic waste, converting it into renewable and easily upcyclable polymers.
By addressing the entire plastic packaging value chain-from monomer production to packaging manufacturing and end-of-life recycling-UPLIFT has showcased the potential of a circular and sustainable approach. This transformative project has set a benchmark for reducing plastic waste and driving innovation in the food and drink packaging industry, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
