Team Korea deserve to beat Italy because they are not weak team.
Serious question: In East Asia I’ve seen the matches have higher pitched crowd noise than in other areas. Why? (In think it’s quite nice, it makes me think of the unabashed excitement of children watching, so I guess more children and women in the crowd?)
Italia tuvo la oportunidad de liquidar e incrementar su marcador, su error fue esperar a que las ayudas arbitrarias tomen efecto, el arquero de korea del sur un monstruo.
This video must have been cut by a Korean since it doesn't show any of the arguable scenes which were all decided in favor of Korea. Please guys, watch the whole match and you will clearly see Moreno was bought. There can't be two opinions. It's 20 years now and I think everyone now should say the truth. In 2008 Moreno even admitted that the disallowance if Italy's goal was a wrong decision. After the match Moreno was banned from all international matches.

4:31, 5:37 Seriously, the Italian members of 2002 don't have any good wingers & strikers that have the best goal chance. 6:21 That Italian attacker didn't get long-pass. 9:48 if he had shot the ball on the bottom, not the top, probably will be a goal. The Italian team kept a defensive line with always dependent tackles and fouls, and it became a warning Accumulation and Exit.

what kind of bullshit If there was proof that you were right, then why did fifa stand still? bring proof of what you say Don't just talk, come and talk with evidence There are historical results that have plagued Korea while facing various European powers such as Brazil, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy in the World Cup and Match A. Do you think that history is all scandals? Even as the best member of Germany, he played 4 matches in A match and the World Cup, resulting in 2 wins and 2 losses. Even during Rivaldo's Brazilian days, Korea has a record of beating them. At the World Cup, they drew twice in two matches against Spain, one of which was won by penalty shootout. At the World Cup in Germany, Henri and Zidane's France drew We also won against Figo's Portugal At the World Cup in England, Italy lost to North Korea. The results that exist in the A-match record and the World Cup record all feel to you as an unclean scandal, right? If you do not know the history of Korean football, please do not comment like this. Although Korea is not a football powerhouse, we have created our own results with decades of history. It's surprising that Asian countries are so denigrated when they beat European teams. They were also runners-up at the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland hosted by FIFA. @@clouLdi3075 Dude you serious? I watched the whole game. I watched the WHOLE WORLD CUP. I'm from Poland, so I watched all the games of Korean team. I watched the Korea - Spain game as well. Those two games were the biggest referee scandals in the modern era. You should be angry and ashamed, that you just lie. Purposely lie. You really expect FIFA - the most corrupted organisation in the world - to deliver a fair investigation about refereeing? You gotta be kidding. Lack of evidence? It's kind of disgusting what you tried to do here, that's rather Chinese propaganda style than decent analysis: Moreno gave a soft penalty to Korea in the beginning. Hwang Sun-hong EVEN CONFESSED HE DESERVED A RED CARD for a challenge he only got a yellow. Maldini kicked in his face? No foul. Totti fouled in the penalty box? YELLOW TO TOTTI FOR DIVING - resulted in RED card. Damiano Tomassi scored in the extra-time? Guess what? Goal ruled out. If you never saw what the whole world saw - you'll never gonna see it. But stop lying. Nobody is anti-Korean (it's really disgusting that you imply that), everybody IS FOR FAIR PLAY. I understand you're biased as a Korean, but you're just lying. Doing cheap propaganda. Nobody cares about the World Cup appearances - Asian teams are just not competitive. European and South American teams only have it hard, maybe African. Who did you beat? Iraq, Syria and Lebanon? Wow, you beat countries that are at war, great success. Stop lying. Moreno should've never refereed a game outside his garden. His mistakes confirm, that VAR should be developed and appreciated. Nobody says Korea was bad during 2022 WC. They had a great coach, but they were pushed by the referees, because FIFA wants hosting countries to generate revenue and keep domestic interest on stadiums for sponsors. Ahn never returned to Italy ever again after this game. Perugia first said they didn't want him back cause he was a "traitor", Ahn's car was smashed and burned by rioters outside his home in Italy, the Italian mafia threatened to kill him if he ever set foot on their soil. But later when their craziness settled, Perugia asked Ahn to come back, he refused. So they demanded around 300 thousand dollars in compensation. Ahn then went to play for a japanese team who would pay for his fine if he played on their team and did japanese commercials. So he did. He later went and played for France, Germany. Recently when asked, if he was bitter, he said these things: the 2002 was a life changing moment for him and he is proud of himself, his teammates and nation for that win. He is happy with his career choices and he wouldn't change a thing. He does not hold any bitter feelings towards Italy or Italians, "their reaction showed how much they love soccer, of course they were disappointed." Ahn was and still is one of South Korea's most celebrated athletes. He enjoys a very successful life and career in television, as a soccer coach, sports commentator, sports variety show host, and his recent on going success on a hit soccer variety show called "Gentlemen's League" on Netflix. Italy's unreasonable anger at him for doing his job and honouring his nation did not stop him from a life of success. However, he will never return to Italy.

Amazing how many comments about Italy not playing well….. I guess the LEGAL disallowed goals as well as the REFEREE, the very dirty tactics of the Korean players had something to do with Italy NOT playing well. Maybe someone should watch the game again, a true black eye on FIFA and fixed matches. It didn’t happen to Italy only maybe ask Spain how they feel. The most SCANDALOUS World Cup ever!!!!
The disallowed goals were against Spain, not Italy. Italy lost because they were terrible at finishing goal chances and because that Totti dive. If the spanish cried about their match I understand it, but Italy and Portugal crying about it is stupid.
This is an English translation from a German newspaper: "It was the 104th minute on June 18, 2002 that finally made maestro Giovanni Trapattoni lose his composure. On this night in Daejeon, the former FC Bayern Munich coach angrily bangs on the Plexiglas paneling of his small coaching booth. Behind him, the FIFA officials stand back in shock. The yellow-red card against Francesco Totti is the culmination of a whole series of extremely questionable decisions by a man from Ecuador whose name is still better not mentioned in Italy today. Because as soon as the name Byron Moreno is mentioned in a conversation, the inhabitants of the Mediterranean country go berserk. Former FIFA referee Byron Moreno from Ecuador continues to inflame the emotions of Italian soccer fans. The hatred for the referee of the 2002 World Cup round of 16 final between South Korea and Italy was so great for a while that in Santa Teresa di Riva in Sicily, the decision was made to cover the public urinals with the likeness of the unpopular man in black. In the opinion of the tifosi, the Ecuadorian referee blew the whistle on them in this memorable match. After just five minutes on June 18, Byron Moreno awarded South Korea a penalty for holding. An interpretative decision that nevertheless gave rise to the first doubts about the referee - and not just on the Italian side. But after Italy took the lead through Vieri after eighteen minutes, coach Giovanni Trapattoni tried to calm the heated atmosphere somewhat. He succeeded to a certain extent - until the 72nd minute. However, when Gianluca Zambrotta was badly knocked down by Sun Hong Hwang on the touchline in front of the Italian bench, the maestro could no longer be stopped. Just a few minutes after Zambrotta's substitution due to injury, Totti runs towards the South Korean goal and is only stopped by a body check from a player in a white jersey in the sixteen. But what does Byron Moreno do? He allows play to continue with a grand gesture. Enough for Trapattoni. He shoots a yellow water bottle at full force towards the stands and hits an official. Goal trauma for Ahn Jung-hwan His equalizer against Italy turned into a trauma for South Korean Ahn Jung-hwan. The rest is easy to say. As it happens in soccer, South Korea managed to equalize 1:1 just a few minutes before the end of normal time. And after Francesco Totti is sent off in the 104th minute for an alleged foul and Tommasi is whistled back in the 112th minute for an alleged (or simply wrong) offside decision from a free position in front of goal, Ahn Jung-hwan of all people scores the decisive 2:1 for South Korea shortly before the end. This goal turned into a real trauma for Ahn Jung-hwan. He was playing more badly than well at AC Perugia at the time. His coach Serse Cosmi, however, cannot be happy about his protégé's goal - quite the opposite. He is furious with Ahn Jung-hwan: "He was lost like a sheep, he couldn't even buy a pizza on his own. He got rich here without any great achievement and then disgraced Italian soccer." Infamous man in black Referee Byron Moreno doesn't fare much better. After Italy launched an investigation into fraud and he was removed from the Fifa list of referees, the man from Ecuador put up a verbal fight - and how: "When the Italians talk about corruption, it's because they're used to practising it themselves. Italians still don't know how to lose properly. That was already the case with Mussolini in 1938, when he told his players not to come home from France without the trophy." The word "corruption" was certainly not new in Moreno's vocabulary at the time. In 2002, Moreno also caused a stir during a match between Liga de Quito and Barcelona Sporting Club from Guayaquil. The referee allowed over 20 minutes to be added on that day. Malicious tongues suspected at the time that there was a very simple reason for this: Moreno was running for a seat in the Quito city parliament. Coincidentally, this was the home town of the very team that simply refused to score at home against SC Barcelona. And to take things to the extreme: Moreno's slogan at the time was "Red card for corruption!" When the referee was finally caught in 2010 at New York's Kennedy Airport in a strange criminal offense - he had tried to smuggle six kilograms of heroin in plastic bags that he had attached to his own body at one of the world's best-guarded airports - Italy's national keeper Gianluigi Buffon knew no mercy, even years after the World Cup match against South Korea: "Six kilos of drugs? In my opinion, he already had them in 2002, but not in his underwear, but in his body." Remember: real anger never goes away!"
@@kajlakuser99991 Of course the drug smuggling doesn't link to the world cup, but what does it change? Moreno is a highly disputable man. Also the Ecuadorian soccer association suspended him after revelation of a huge bribery scandal in which he was involved. "...and FIFA has already inspected him as to whether he really got bribes from South Korea, and it turned out that it was just a rumor." Come on, FIFA is the most corrupt association on earth and it's silly to refer to them as a trustworthy source. Don't make yourself ridiculous. It's not for Italy and it's not against South Korea. It's for justice and against fraud. Get that. Take off your Korean glasses.
Four years later: Italy world champion, South Korea going home in the first stage, Hidding going home with Australia at the 92 minutes with Grosso's penalty... And, who scores? Totti. 🤣🤣

This is an abnormal amount of false information. I’m sorry but it’s too much to ignore even as a Japanese. I’m not sure if you’re Japanese but I’ll assume u are. If you are not and u are an Italy fan making false talk because of this game then I am sorry for u. I am Japanese, with family in Nara and in Osaka.. and lived in the US for 25 years. I’ll respond in English for the greater audience. The 2002 World Cup was a great symbol of two nations’ cooperation that benefited both. As Japanese we are well known amongst the world about our politeness, respect, and courtesy. But same time, we are blind to our past. Also neighboring countries always have a sense of rivalry. England and France is another famous one. Modern history was unkind to Korea and Japan played a big part. So it’s true that if someone looks only in the 20th century Korea has tried hard to catch up to Japan in industry, automobile, technology and sports and more. Why? Because it was a destroyed nation starting from them being our colony. But if you look beyond going centuries and centuries past it’s the opposite. We have looked at the mainland - China and Korea for sources of inspiration. Arts, culture, trade, etc we borrowed alot from Korea and China. It was simply the nature of trade and direction of culture. Just as Korea cannot say they invented or influenced Buddhism we cannot say Korea copies us more if u look at history in whole. We both take inspiration from one another. Any nation does this. Italy made Chinese noodles their pasta and so on. To take it further the legendary origin of our emperor’s line extend to a royal from Korea who came to Japan long long ago. It’s a legend but what we can take from it is we are similar, the two people. More than we realize I am proud of our culture. But our culture is also very inward, and people don’t have a full idea of Japan’s nature and its actions across time. We must know our bad parts and good parts. To really show the outside we are who we are - respectful, courteous and honorable we must act that way instead of spreading misinformation. Misinformation in this day is a terrible thing. I say all this with respect for everyone. Thank you.
it was the best time in my life as a Korean. i miss those legendary korean soccer team and those enthusiastic moments. i wish i can go back. perhaps until the time I die, it will remain as the happiest time in my life. my family was very poor back then. i barely had a meal. it was very hard for me to find a job after IMF impact on south Korea. I had a part-time job in an internet cafe with barely 400 dollars a month. very hard time. but only this time of my life, I felt a hope. I had a hope and dream after this worldcup. it is a great event indeed. what am i doing? i work as a pharmacist. my life is financially more stable. however i would say those time in 2002 worldcup was the best moment in my life. i miss my early 20s.
which aspect? realistically speaking one would think it should have been a breeze for italy,,, just couldnt get it in the net, and totti's dive.. you would have judged a dive let's be real
All of the fouls were correct because Italy players failed to tackle the ball, and mostly tackled the South Korean Players. I guess it's hard to say whether Totti deserves a Yellow but he was definitely caught acting - the defender tackled the ball, and then there was the body check, that's fair game. Of course there was a home advantage, that's a given. But Italy had so many chances to score, and they were like several levels above S. Korea. Overall S. Korea played the best they could and Italy underperformed.

At the World Cup in Germany, Henri and Zidane's France drew
We also won against Figo's Portugal
At the World Cup in England, Italy lost to North Korea.

Italy advances to the 14th consecutive World Cup
Argentina advance to the 13th consecutive World Cup
Spain qualified for the 12th consecutive World Cup
Korea advanced to the World Cup for the 10th time in a row
It is a record that only six countries have made it to the World Cup 10 times in a row.

You really expect FIFA - the most corrupted organisation in the world - to deliver a fair investigation about refereeing? You gotta be kidding. Lack of evidence?
It's kind of disgusting what you tried to do here, that's rather Chinese propaganda style than decent analysis:
Moreno gave a soft penalty to Korea in the beginning.

It's really absurd. Are soccer referees really the problem?? You're funny😂
This is an English translation from a German newspaper:
"It was the 104th minute on June 18, 2002 that finally made maestro Giovanni Trapattoni lose his composure.
Goal trauma for Ahn Jung-hwan
His equalizer against Italy turned into a trauma for South Korean Ahn Jung-hwan.
He got rich here without any great achievement and then disgraced Italian soccer."
Infamous man in black
Referee Byron Moreno doesn't fare much better. After Italy launched an investigation into fraud and he was removed from the Fifa list of referees, the man from Ecuador put up a verbal fight - and how: "When the Italians talk about corruption, it's because they're used to practising it themselves. Italians still don't know how to lose properly. That was already the case with Mussolini in 1938, when he told his players not to come home from France without the trophy."
The word "corruption" was certainly not new in Moreno's vocabulary at the time. And to take things to the extreme: Moreno's slogan at the time was "Red card for corruption!"
When the referee was finally caught in 2010 at New York's Kennedy Airport in a strange criminal offense - he had tried to smuggle six kilograms of heroin in plastic bags that he had attached to his own body at one of the world's best-guarded airports - Italy's national keeper Gianluigi Buffon knew no mercy, even years after the World Cup match against South Korea: "Six kilos of drugs? In my opinion, he already had them in 2002, but not in his underwear, but in his body." Remember: real anger never goes away!"
@@kajlakuser99991 Of course the drug smuggling doesn't link to the world cup, but what does it change? Moreno is a highly disputable man. Also the Ecuadorian soccer association suspended him after revelation of a huge bribery scandal in which he was involved.
"...and FIFA has already inspected him as to whether he really got bribes from South Korea, and it turned out that it was just a rumor."

Worse Referees in World Cup History
I was so happy that day. Everyone was blaming Korea for buying the game. All my friends were fans of Italy. I laughed on them. If you wanna win like a 3-time world champ, you should win for sure, not cry for every doubtful referee decision.
Miss those days.
i mean your opinion is a bit too extream but.. honestly, even with all the scandals, if italy won despite that it would have been glorious poetry.
I remember Chitaly was more dirty
I remember Korea couldn't see any players with the eyes that they had
yeah just cry
People say Korea got helped because:
a) Penalty for Korea
b) Fault on Totti but he is shown the yellow
c) Last goal aliminated.
BUT.
a) That was a pnealty, though it might be a bit harsh
b) In this Angle is hard to see but Totti dived, Korean dude got the ball of his feet clean and fair. TOtti was already booked so yellowe for him, red and out.
c) It was a clear off side.

so beating poland and portugal was okay for korea but all of sudden winning vs italy was controversial and scam? lol italy lost because of their arrogant pride and got what they deserved by looking down on korea and clearly thought it was going to be easy cake for next round. this was 20 years where most of hard physical were allowed so don't give me that BS about not getting called, it goes both side. that's why you never underestimate your opponents small or big. 🤫🤫🤫
exactly. bad offside call? missed foul call? that shit happens to this day lmfao... if italy were truly the better team, they would've won this game flat. This specific game Hiddink prepared the team perfectly - and it doesn't help the italians made these fouls so obvious + raging at the ref for every call they THOUGHT was wrong. That shit can get you yellows/sent off these days and noone would bat an eye. Times are different get over it.

Look, everyone came out, right?
일본측에서 먼저 공동개최하자고 했습니다
More than we realize
I am proud of our culture.
