Thank you! After a new car battery, Sync would not connect to any of our 3 phones. The sync reboot did it! Dealer said we needed an expensive sync model in the dash replaced 👊😂

Nothing is easy, ever. We purchased a 2016 Ford Fusion today for our 19-year-old daughter who is heading back to college soon, and everything on the Sync/radio was in Spanish. D'oh! Between this video and Google translate, I was able to do the Master Reset and Reboot. Thanks! 😎
Glad it helped you out. They have changed some things in the time since this video was shot, no longer have a reboot option or at least they don’t call it that and you used to be able to get a free software upgrade but now Ford makes you pay

Thank you for posting this. The SYNC Reboot fixed a problem with my phone being connected but not being able to select Bluetooth Audio. SYNC would just say "No Bluetooth device is available right now. I will try to connecte one" and then nothing would happen.

Jim: thanks for your help! I have a 2015 Taurus SEL AWD with the same radio system shown in this screen. All of a sudden I lost the Bluetooth symbol and phone sync. Did the reset on the radio (didn’t know about the Sync reset process) Was going to remove and replace fuse #9 for n the inside fuse box, however that is easier said than done since you can’t see fuse #9 The fix was simply to re-Sync my iPhone. Going to give this a go for my 2015 Taurus - same type screen. One day the Bluetooth worked perfectly, next day it didn't. Ditto for the phone. Did the Master Reset, however did not know about the Sync Reboot. THANK YOU!!
Jim No unfortunately mine did not reset and Ford had to replace fo around $1080 as I recall. I bought the extended warranty and think this expense almost was same cost but I think I only paid $100 deductible. Thx

Granddaughter's 2015 Fusion won't let her make or receive phones calls but she can play music from her phone, we added my phone last night as a test and it worked fine. I'm thinking it's her phone that is the problem.
Make sure she has deleted all devices from Sync and reinstall her phone. The master reset or reboot should do it though as they set it back to factory specs. I always recommend registering your vehicle at syncmyride.com for free upgrades that are available. Good luck.

First make sure that your vehicle has Sync, it was an option on some models. There's some badging, usually by the gearshift, which will say Sync by Microsoft if you have it. If you do have it then you have several things to try. I'm going to post various fixes that have worked for people in the description above. Hope one works for you.
The exact thing is happening to me .I thought I was the only one. I've had this car for over 2 years, no problem at all and then "POOF" my media function doesn't EXIST. No phone function no USB function, the only thing I have is radio and cd.

My Ford fusion says after I click on the advance and then I go to the reset but the second thing I have to do to reboot when I go to go to the reboot it says install applications instead of reboot. I don't understand. It's totally different than yours on that last one
They have done several software upgrades since I filmed that and the reboot option seems to have gone away. Unfortunately I retired so don’t know for sure.

You might need a new module which is quite expensive. Try to reset it manually using some of the hacks in the description or comments but it might be cheaper to just upgrade to an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth capability
I'm now on option 2. I went to the site and entered the VIN code and it shows there is an update available. go to Ford dealer and I don't see any button to download the update to the drive. Can you tell me where I can download it to the drive?

Unfortunately I retired and don’t really know all the latest hacks for manually unfreezing the Sync system. I listed some ones that used to work in the description
Lol Aside from some initial stress relief not recommended. Try manually resetting your system by taking out the fuse that runs sync and reinstall it. The other fix is to take off both battery cables and hold the ends together for minute, wait 5 minutes and reattach. If that doesn’t unfreeze it the module could be bad which means big buck repair.
Came here for this comment. Suddenly my media and phone buttons do not work! Grr I’ve done all the open/close door etc.. turn on/off Bluetooth on phone. My first thought after I couldn’t press the phone or media buttons when they mysteriously stopped working was fuses.. then I was thinking what if I disconnected the battery. Will take it up to my to BIL to take a looksee. You answered my questions and confirmed what I was thinking!

Sounds like your system froze up on you. I retired years ago and have no idea why or how you lost everything but you might try using some of the hacks listed in the description and comments to manually unfreeze it.
You may need a new screen but I would try to update your system before spending dollars. Go to sync my ride.com and it wii allow you to register your Explorer and can also provide you with any software updates. And it’s free.
Jim Parisi by the way, i have base trim so i have the 4” screen that doesn’t have sync or bluetooth or anything of that sort it’s so basic it plays music it plays the radio and it has EQ settings that’s about it. it’s been working well recently and the only times it shuts off is like after the cars been on already then turned off and no matter how soon or late you restart it the screen is off for awhile or till your next drive. you can’t start it then stop then repeat either it just takes it’s own time to turn on but like i said it’s been working better and it’s not a hassle anymore

I am retired from the business but never heard of a battery appearing when you press media. I would advise checking out some of the hacks I listed to manually unfreeze the system or just save a lot of time and buy an aftermarket audio system that has Bluetooth connectivity.
You do have sync right because it wasn’t always a standard feature but assuming you have it the system is most likely frozen up. You can read through the comments and description above for some hacks that may unfreeze the system but you will still need to upgrade the software. That used to be free at syncmyride.com but I was informed they now charge for an upgrade. Good luck.

Try taking off both battery cables off and touch the ends together for 15 seconds. This will sometimes cause the system to reset itself. Once it frees up register it at syncmyride.com and check for a software update. If one is available download it to a thumb or flash drive and then put that drive in your vehicles USB port to upload the software upgrade to the system
You probably don’t have sync and the phone button just mutes the radio so you can hear when taking a call. Definitely confusing for sure. If you have an emblem that says Sync by Microsoft your car is equipped with Sync but it wasn’t a standard feature on some models
If you don’t see the Sync by Microsoft badging by the gearshift you may not have Sync as it was an option early on. Not sure what trim level your Explorer is but must be base.
i tried to go by phone menu but it doesn’t go through that & whenever i try to go by sync phone to add my bluetooth it also doesn’t work however i push the ok button thats i couldn’t add my bluetooth on my 2016 ford fusion se. but exepect that everything else work like fm ,cd. First I would look for badging that says Sync by Microsoft, it is usually by the gearshift area and that assures you that your vehicle has the Sync feature. It wasn’t always standard equipment. If you have it read the comments above that provide some hacks that have worked for some people
First time I have ever heard that. Try manually resetting by removing your battery cables, touching the ends together for 20 seconds and reattaching them
i have a 2019 ford fusion and i had no problem using the bluetooth but today the sound went off like my phone is connected to the bluetooth and a song is playing but no sound what should i do? i also tried master reset nothing happ
Does anyone know what to do when your system has decided it doesn't have sync installed any more? Maybe how to do a hard reset using the physical buttons? My system doesn't bring up any menu when I hit the phone button, and even when I hit the Aux button it wont even let me do line in or USB. Its like the whole Sync has crashed. Even doing a battery disconnect for 10 minutes doesn't reset it.
I’m not aware of any other manual resets and sometimes it is the module that is bad and if that’s the case you are looking at a costly repair. Might make sense to price an aftermarket radio with sync capabilities versus price of new module.

I’m having the exact same issue on my 2015 Taurus. Whenever I press the aux button it goes back to the radio. I’ve even tried looking for the Bluetooth setting in the system but it’s like it disappeared overnight. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and nothing. No clue what else to do.
@@ozzielara2337 I just had my APIM replaced at the dealer. In the expedition it's a major job to get to it and they're model specific, so you need to have the right one and program it correctly. So I'd recommend having the dealer do it, but it isn't cheap, after tax it was just shy of $1000. If you can do aftermarket I would recommend that. The expedition didn't have an aftermarket option, sad day.

Thanks but Ford has decided to charge for software updates on the Sync system. When I shot this video you could go to sync my ride.com and register your vehicle and get a free software update. A commenter told me they no longer offer it and you have to go to the dealership to upgrade it. So if you want you can read through the comments for manually unfreezes hacks that work but you won’t be able to upgrade it.
I have a 2017 fusion with 4 inch screen. I need to replace the screen unit and found the same one but from a 2013 (I believe that's the year) Ford focus. Would I beable to reprogram the focus radio to my fusion by doing this reset or putting I radio code found in manual? Thank you!!!
Not sure if the 2013 module works in a 2017 and don’t want to give you bad information. In theory it should work but we know how that goes. I do recommend going to sync my ride.com and getting a software update for it. Good luck!
Some models don’t have sync as a standard feature and all the phone button does is mute the stereo. Do you have a little badge that says Sync by Microsoft near the gear shifter? If so you have it and you most likely have a system that is frozen up. Read some of the hacks listed in the description and see if you can manually unfreeze it.
@@cristalyepez4938 you can reset it by disconnecting the battery. Unfortuantely, mine is halfway under the front of the hood so that's not even as simple as it should be. A shame to have a problem like this but if you can't find another way, try disconnecting battery for 5-10 minutes.
I don’t have the option for sync reboot. When I reset, it says sync line in. And when I go back to the menu, it says “install application” after master reset.
Not sure if a software update deleted the reboot option but for whatever reason sync doesn’t offer a reboot option anymore or they use a different term. Sorry I can’t be more specific but retired a while back.

So does the system respond to any voice commands like changing radio stations etc? If it doesn’t do anything it might be fried but I would see if you can still utilize the USB port to upload a software update for Sync. @@MrMonk330 It’s been several years but I had a fusion and it allowed me to download a software update to a thumb drive and then I used the vehicle’s USB port to upload it to the system. I did have to register at synyride to get it
My daughter's car just recently stopped allowing her to access bluetooth. I tried to do the reset as you described, but when I hit the phone button, nothing happens. It stays on the radio and does not give me any options. Any idea what might be going on? She took it into the shop and they said that the Media Hub needed replaced and gave her an estimate of over $600. Hopefully there's something else that can be done. Thanks!
Mary Critchlow The system failure diagnosis sounds correct if it doesn’t want to react to commands. You might want to try a software update at syncmyride.com Fairly simple to do. Register and submit your vin number and then go to software updates. Download to a thumb or flash drive and then insert that same drive to your vehicles USB port and in a perfect system will give you prompts to install the upgrade. Not sure if you system will allow it
It is pretty expensive to replace it so try a couple of things first. Go to syncmyride.com which is Fords site dedicated to Sync. It will give you a free software update if one is available and you can download the update to a thumb drive and upload to your vehicle through the USB port. If the update doesn’t want to take then you have to try to manually unfreeze your Sync system. A couple of hacks seem to work. Take both battery cables off and hold the battery cable ends together for a minute and reinstall after 5 minutes. Another one is to take the fuse out that runs Sync, wait around 5 minutes and reinstall. Hope you get it going!
Have a 2016 Fusion and my PHONE button does nothing when I press it. Appears all other radio functions are working but lost Bluetooth phone connection last week and cannot figure out how to reconnect it since I get NO menu when PHONE button pressed. HELP
You might be screwed and need a new module but try a couple of things first. Disconnect the red positive battery cable and wait a couple of minutes and reattach. You might try taking out the fuse that runs it as well. Hopefully it wii reboot the system for you. Not sure which fuse you pull but do a search and see if anyone has a video on it.

I think early rear cameras may have used the smaller screen but not really sure. They had it come on the rear view mirror on certain models as well but typically you have the larger screen.
Ford took away the reboot option for whatever reason and if you can’t do a master reset your Sync system is frozen up and has to be unfrozen manually. A couple of hacks folks have tried are taking out the fuse that runs Sync and waiting 5 minutes and put the fuse back. The other one has you take off both battery cables, touch the ends of the cables together and wait 5 minutes and put back on the battery.

Look for a button on the steering wheel that says settings or info and you’ll find a menu to change the language.

My phone was continuously being dropped as the bluetooth media device when I would try to connect for audio and this finally got it to work.

I have a 2015 fusion and the sync reboot does not appear. My phone will find sync and i enter the code but then it says connectiom failes Edit: I guess the master reset was enough because it connected perfect after. Thank you a ton.

My Ford fusion says after I click on the advance and then I go to the reset but the second thing I have to do to reboot when I go to go to the reboot it says install applications instead of reboot. I don't understand. It's totally different than yours on that last one
They have done several software upgrades since I filmed that and the reboot option seems to have gone away. Unfortunately I retired so don’t know for sure.
The question that I have is I have a 2013 Ford Fusion I used to have it to where I can access to phone through Bluetooth now I cannot access it through Bluetooth I hit the phone button nothing shows up can you help me with that is it the way to set the Bluetooth to where's comes back onto the unit Bluetooth not working at all
You might need a new module which is quite expensive. Try to reset it manually using some of the hacks in the description or comments but it might be cheaper to just upgrade to an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth capability
I'm now on option 2. I went to the site and entered the VIN code and it shows there is an update available. go to Ford dealer and I don't see any button to download the update to the drive. Can you tell me where I can download it to the drive?

What do you do when you reboot the sync and you go to the media screen and it’s just blank? I try to press the phone button and nothing happens. This has happened to me a couple of times and it’s really frustrating and annoying. Please help give me a solution

Lol Aside from some initial stress relief not recommended. Try manually resetting your system by taking out the fuse that runs sync and reinstall it. The other fix is to take off both battery cables and hold the ends together for minute, wait 5 minutes and reattach. If that doesn’t unfreeze it the module could be bad which means big buck repair.
Came here for this comment. Suddenly my media and phone buttons do not work! Grr I’ve done all the open/close door etc.. turn on/off Bluetooth on phone. My first thought after I couldn’t press the phone or media buttons when they mysteriously stopped working was fuses.. then I was thinking what if I disconnected the battery. Will take it up to my to BIL to take a looksee. You answered my questions and confirmed what I was thinking!

Sounds like your system froze up on you. I retired years ago and have no idea why or how you lost everything but you might try using some of the hacks listed in the description and comments to manually unfreeze it.
What if the screen is not showing these options?
It only showing SYNC and mobile battery

I don’t have sync reboot it goes from Master reset to install application in the menu.
I shot the video a long time ago and Ford either eliminated the reboot option or named it as a default setting because it is no longer an option

You may need a new screen but I would try to update your system before spending dollars. Go to sync my ride.com and it wii allow you to register your Explorer and can also provide you with any software updates. And it’s free.
Jim Parisi by the way, i have base trim so i have the 4” screen that doesn’t have sync or bluetooth or anything of that sort it’s so basic it plays music it plays the radio and it has EQ settings that’s about it. it’s been working well recently and the only times it shuts off is like after the cars been on already then turned off and no matter how soon or late you restart it the screen is off for awhile or till your next drive. you can’t start it then stop then repeat either it just takes it’s own time to turn on but like i said it’s been working better and it’s not a hassle anymore

You might be screwed and the module that runs it died or it is frozen up. There are some hacks you can try to manually reset it. I listed them above.

I am retired from the business but never heard of a battery appearing when you press media. I would advise checking out some of the hacks I listed to manually unfreeze the system or just save a lot of time and buy an aftermarket audio system that has Bluetooth connectivity.

You do have sync right because it wasn’t always a standard feature but assuming you have it the system is most likely frozen up. You can read through the comments and description above for some hacks that may unfreeze the system but you will still need to upgrade the software. That used to be free at syncmyride.com but I was informed they now charge for an upgrade. Good luck.
How long should the SYNC Reboot take? Mine is still says “Rebooting…” after 15 minutes

My 2017 expedition literally does nothing when i press phone. No menu, no change in the screen, nothing... any ideas on how to fix this?
Try taking off both battery cables off and touch the ends together for 15 seconds. This will sometimes cause the system to reset itself. Once it frees up register it at syncmyride.com and check for a software update. If one is available download it to a thumb or flash drive and then put that drive in your vehicles USB port to upload the software upgrade to the system

You probably don’t have sync and the phone button just mutes the radio so you can hear when taking a call. Definitely confusing for sure. If you have an emblem that says Sync by Microsoft your car is equipped with Sync but it wasn’t a standard feature on some models
My 2013 explorer says muted on phone function...it doesn't give any other options
If you don’t see the Sync by Microsoft badging by the gearshift you may not have Sync as it was an option early on. Not sure what trim level your Explorer is but must be base.
i tried to go by phone menu but it doesn’t go through that & whenever i try to go by sync phone to add my bluetooth it also doesn’t work however i push the ok button thats i couldn’t add my bluetooth on my 2016 ford fusion se. but exepect that everything else work like fm ,cd. First I would look for badging that says Sync by Microsoft, it is usually by the gearshift area and that assures you that your vehicle has the Sync feature. It wasn’t always standard equipment. If you have it read the comments above that provide some hacks that have worked for some people

First time I have ever heard that. Try manually resetting by removing your battery cables, touching the ends together for 20 seconds and reattaching them
i have a 2019 ford fusion and i had no problem using the bluetooth but today the sound went off like my phone is connected to the bluetooth and a song is playing but no sound what should i do? i also tried master reset nothing happ
Sorry but I have retired and am not a Bluetooth audio user. Did you change your phone settings or inadvertently hit the mute button
Does anyone know what to do when your system has decided it doesn't have sync installed any more? Maybe how to do a hard reset using the physical buttons? My system doesn't bring up any menu when I hit the phone button, and even when I hit the Aux button it wont even let me do line in or USB. Its like the whole Sync has crashed. Even doing a battery disconnect for 10 minutes doesn't reset it.
I’m not aware of any other manual resets and sometimes it is the module that is bad and if that’s the case you are looking at a costly repair. Might make sense to price an aftermarket radio with sync capabilities versus price of new module.
@@BluesGuitarPlayer it's looking more and more like the APIM. And I haven't been able to find any aftermarket stuff other than infotainment, but that's so much money I might as well have the dealer do it. Do you know of any aftermarket stuff?

I’m having the exact same issue on my 2015 Taurus. Whenever I press the aux button it goes back to the radio. I’ve even tried looking for the Bluetooth setting in the system but it’s like it disappeared overnight. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and nothing. No clue what else to do.
@@ozzielara2337 I just had my APIM replaced at the dealer. In the expedition it's a major job to get to it and they're model specific, so you need to have the right one and program it correctly. So I'd recommend having the dealer do it, but it isn't cheap, after tax it was just shy of $1000. If you can do aftermarket I would recommend that. The expedition didn't have an aftermarket option, sad day.

Thanks but Ford has decided to charge for software updates on the Sync system. When I shot this video you could go to sync my ride.com and register your vehicle and get a free software update. A commenter told me they no longer offer it and you have to go to the dealership to upgrade it. So if you want you can read through the comments for manually unfreezes hacks that work but you won’t be able to upgrade it.
I have a 2017 fusion with 4 inch screen. I need to replace the screen unit and found the same one but from a 2013 (I believe that's the year) Ford focus. Would I beable to reprogram the focus radio to my fusion by doing this reset or putting I radio code found in manual? Thank you!!!
Not sure if the 2013 module works in a 2017 and don’t want to give you bad information. In theory it should work but we know how that goes. I do recommend going to sync my ride.com and getting a software update for it. Good luck!

Some models don’t have sync as a standard feature and all the phone button does is mute the stereo. Do you have a little badge that says Sync by Microsoft near the gear shifter? If so you have it and you most likely have a system that is frozen up. Read some of the hacks listed in the description and see if you can manually unfreeze it.

Didn't work for me. Once I went through and reset, there was no option to reboot. I went through a few times to make sure I hadn't skipped anything.

@@cristalyepez4938 you can reset it by disconnecting the battery. Unfortuantely, mine is halfway under the front of the hood so that's not even as simple as it should be. A shame to have a problem like this but if you can't find another way, try disconnecting battery for 5-10 minutes.

I don’t have the option for sync reboot. When I reset, it says sync line in. And when I go back to the menu, it says “install application” after master reset.
Not sure if a software update deleted the reboot option but for whatever reason sync doesn’t offer a reboot option anymore or they use a different term. Sorry I can’t be more specific but retired a while back.
with mine im stuck on the regular radio and cant get my voice commands to talk i cant connect bluetooth or usb its just stuck on radio no matter what

My phone button won’t even register and when I hit sync it just goes right back to radio. Any idea how I can get that back? It just stopped registering a Bluetooth and the phone won’t even show up. I’ve unplugged the battery and fuses and got nothing.
So does the system respond to any voice commands like changing radio stations etc? If it doesn’t do anything it might be fried but I would see if you can still utilize the USB port to upload a software update for Sync. @@MrMonk330 It’s been several years but I had a fusion and it allowed me to download a software update to a thumb drive and then I used the vehicle’s USB port to upload it to the system. I did have to register at synyride to get it

My daughter's car just recently stopped allowing her to access bluetooth. I tried to do the reset as you described, but when I hit the phone button, nothing happens. It stays on the radio and does not give me any options. Any idea what might be going on? She took it into the shop and they said that the Media Hub needed replaced and gave her an estimate of over $600. Hopefully there's something else that can be done. Thanks!
Mary Critchlow The system failure diagnosis sounds correct if it doesn’t want to react to commands. You might want to try a software update at syncmyride.com Fairly simple to do. Register and submit your vin number and then go to software updates. Download to a thumb or flash drive and then insert that same drive to your vehicles USB port and in a perfect system will give you prompts to install the upgrade. Not sure if you system will allow it

It is pretty expensive to replace it so try a couple of things first. Go to syncmyride.com which is Fords site dedicated to Sync. It will give you a free software update if one is available and you can download the update to a thumb drive and upload to your vehicle through the USB port.
If the update doesn’t want to take then you have to try to manually unfreeze your Sync system. A couple of hacks seem to work. Take both battery cables off and hold the battery cable ends together for a minute and reinstall after 5 minutes. Another one is to take the fuse out that runs Sync, wait around 5 minutes and reinstall. Hope you get it going!

Have a 2016 Fusion and my PHONE button does nothing when I press it.
Appears all other radio functions are working but lost Bluetooth phone connection last week and cannot figure out how to reconnect it since I get NO menu when PHONE button pressed.

You might be screwed and need a new module but try a couple of things first. Disconnect the red positive battery cable and wait a couple of minutes and reattach. You might try taking out the fuse that runs it as well. Hopefully it wii reboot the system for you. Not sure which fuse you pull but do a search and see if anyone has a video on it.

Does this type of screen have backup camera?
I think early rear cameras may have used the smaller screen but not really sure. They had it come on the rear view mirror on certain models as well but typically you have the larger screen.

Ford took away the reboot option for whatever reason and if you can’t do a master reset your Sync system is frozen up and has to be unfrozen manually. A couple of hacks folks have tried are taking out the fuse that runs Sync and waiting 5 minutes and put the fuse back. The other one has you take off both battery cables, touch the ends of the cables together and wait 5 minutes and put back on the battery.
