One of the least noticed but really excellent actors is William Sadler (Heywood in Shawshank and Gino Fish in the Jesse Stone movies). Tons of movies, plays, and television productions!
No wonder it’s ranked #1 on IMDB list of greatest movies of all time- it’s a goddamn masterpiece and a part cinematic history: - Newman’s hauntingly beautiful score. - Stellar performances from the whole cast. Especially from Freeman and Robbins of course. - Brilliantly written script and phenomenal directing by Darabont. - And a Gorgeous cinematography by Deakin’s to boot. I’ve never be so emotionally invested in fictions characters before. The same emotionally rollarcoaster: crying, laughing and reflecting on the meaning hope. I’ve probably watched the movie more than 20 times.. but it never gets old.

I was sooooo glad they showed them meet up. Sometimes movies leave out that last part, and just intend for you to know the ending without actually showing the good part!
@@timothytucker6657 I like how it's done too. The camera rises away and you see them meeting and giving each other a hug. But we can only imagine what they are saying to each other.
"I believe in two things, discipline and the Bible. Here you'll get both. Put your trust in the Lord. Your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank." I love this quote. These lines are an incredible introduction to our antagonist, Warden Norton. They immediately reveal his character as a whited sepulcher. On the one hand he believes in his own interpretation of discipline, which encompasses mass control and dehumanization of the prisoners. This becomes apparent from the start when he allowed the unnamed prisoner to be assaulted and insulted simply for asking, "When do we eat." On the flip side of the coin, he claims to believe in the Bible merely to create an outward appearance of respect, honor, and Godliness. The fact that the warden uses the number two in his introduction is symbolic to his alter ego or two faces. The quote is brilliant. I can't get enough of this movie. ☺️
Hope can give you the will to live, im suffering from a serious illness and i havn't seen the sea for 20 years. Its the hope of seeing it one day that is giving me the will to keep going.

How could they not give the best movie award to such a superb masterpiece, every moment of which is a magnificent work of art. I've been watching oscar awards for years. Many times they have given the best picture oscar to the nonsense movies. I think the film academy jury should be much more careful in choosing the nominees. Anyway, let it be their shame. İt's not that important. Even though it didn't get the best picture Oscar, it place in hearts is at the top.

Kindly pause scrolling and make space for the following information in your memory banks: 1. When the prison warden found the Bible where Andy had hidden the rock hammer, it was in the book of Exodus. Exodus is a Greek word meaning "departure." 2. Red describes Andy's dream as "shitty pipe dreams". During his escape to live that dream, Andy crawls through a pipe filled with raw sewage. 3. If Andy had been incarcerated in just one cell to the left he would have had nowhere to tunnel to except the next cell, and thus would have had no amazing story to tell. 4. The three times Red meets the parole board he is told "Sit", "Sit down", and lastly "Please sit down". 5. Although it is never directly stated in the film, Brooks is in prison for allegedly murdering his wife and daughter after a losing streak at poker. 6. Despite being widely considered as one of the greatest movies of all time, it didn't receive a single Oscar win, though it was nominated for seven, including Best Picture. 7. The last word spoken in the movie is "hope", a major theme of the film.
So many lines one could quote from the film. Some examples - Andy to Red: “Didn’t do it”. Red replies: “you are going to fit right in! Heywood, , what are you in for? Heywood: Didn’t do it - my lawyer (expletive deleted) me”. Tommy to Andy: “What are you in for; Capone?” Andy replies: “Me, my lawyer (expletive deleted) me”. Everybody in here is innocent, didn’t you know that? Andy to Tommy: “ I have no time for losers, Tommy.” Tommy replies: I ain’t no dammed loser”. Heywood to Red: “ you are saying he is innocent, I mean really innocent?” Red replies” it sure looks that way.”
District Attorney: And that also is very convenient, isn't it, Mr. Dufresne? Andy Dufresne: Since I am innocent of this crime, sir, I find it decidedly inconvenient that the gun was never found. Brooks: Shook his hand! I near soiled myself, I mean all Andy needed was a suit and a tie and a little jiggly hula gal on his desk and he woulda been *Mister* Dufresne, if you please. Heywood: The Count of Monte Crisco... Floyd: That's "Cristo" you dumb shit. Heywood: ...by Alexandree Dumb-ass. Dumb-ass. Andy Dufresne: Dumb-ass? "Dumas". You know what it's about? You'll like it, it's about a prison break. Red: We oughta file that under "Educational" too, oughten we? Red: I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free. Andy Dufresne: She was beautiful. God I loved her. I just didn't know how to show it, that's all. I killed her, Red. I didn't pull the trigger, but I drove her away. And that's why she died, because of me. Red: Five hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile. [For the record, that is just over a quarter-mile.]
That line about it being a sin to cage a beautiful bird, I always think of the girl who got away. She deserved a better life than I could give her. I hope she is happy and safe in her life without me. But I guess I just miss my friend. The one person on this earth who really knew me, better than my own family. Take care Anya Jensen, I'll always be thinking about you, when the moon is bright in the night sky I always think about you moon of my life. You made me want to be a better person and when I was with you, you made me want to be a better man an after having you in my life I became a better man in many ways. You taught me what love really is, and I wish that I could have spent the rest of my life with you. Your friend-- Forrest Ryder.
