Sometimes it’s just being there for someone at their highest and lowest points, for example, sitting next to and comforting a dying girl because she’s scared. He wouldn't have to stop fighting crime as Batman, but could learn to do it in more healthy ways and with the JL as a whole learn to balance his time as Batman and Bruce better (because he'd no longer be the ONE person to solve all the world's problems).

  • @Rixec2

Batman always had such a tender heart throughout the DCAU, which is part of why he got such a big family in the Bat Family and the JL. He always did what he did not just for justice, but to help and save others from ending up like him. And that's what made his final battle with the Joker a loss. Tim might have stopped the Joker, but what the Joker did ultimately isolated Batman's heart from everyone, making him end up alone. He still fought crime, but he hardly had anyone. It wasn't until Terry came along he could open himself up again, as Terry inherited Batman's heart, but also showed how one can be Batman, suffer tragedy, but not lose yourself to it.

Superman is fast enough to at least keep up, Lantern likely could restrain him if need be, and there are two fliers on the team, plus J'onn brain blast. Lantern: Superman can outmuscle him for long enough for someone else to clock him hard enough to knock him out, also J'onn. Wonder Woman: Superman is stronger and sometimes faster, so she can be restrained, also J'onn. Hawkgirl: use Superman again. Also J'onn. J'onn is the hard one. Despite the writing teams' claims he is weak to fire he seems more weak to electrical attacks, so maybe shock batarangs/the Clayface taser, but otherwise might need some contingency work just in case. Issue is J'onn could read his mind, so best solution would be an AI on the batcomputer simulating possible solutions. Superman: Kryptonite. If Batman trusts that the odds of the rest of the team all falling at once are low, he generally has teammates who can restrain each other to hopefully give time to snap the one who has lost it out of it. Superman is so strong that he needs a backup plan, and J'onn his best bet is to not personally know the plan anyways, plus it never really comes up as a major thing without other factors like magic being involved that one time. Essentially, he already has a backup plan for most of the original 7: the rest of the original 7. Superman is just a bit too durable to be able to restrain, so Batman keeps a weakening agent on him just in case. He has tools to potentially disable J'onn for a time, and the rest of the league it's just a matter of hoping to have one heavy hitter/J'onn around to knock them out.

It also pops up a couple times in BTAS. I guess the DCAU Batman more broadly shows us that you really can have it all. I love Batman's arc throughout the DCAU, especially because of the tragic ending that is Batman Beyond. I think there's a good video you could do about the patterns there. This is a Batman who breaks all the rules of Batman, who rejects the dark and comes into the light. And he still ends up in the same place as almost every other Old Bruce. That end point has never been about the Justice League, has never been about the other heroes, has never been about him opening up. That end point is not because of who he is as a man, so even when the man changes, it doesn't mean that will. That end point is caused by who he is as a father. And that's where DCAU Batman didn't change a thing. He's still the General, still the man with good soldiers more than family, and even in JLU, that's what he is for them too. Although he learned to be a person, he never stopped being his first soldier. And so, he still burns every bridge with his family, he still lets them down, and he still ends up alone and rotting because it's not his super friends who force him to not wither away in old age, it's his kids. And he lost them. And he only recovers because of his son. Waller figured out what to give the man who has everything, and wasn't even trying to: family. Terry is the first son he's forced to recognize as a person, not a soldier. It's only when he's forced to be a father more than a commander does he finally become able to heal.

I know people tend to give the Terry being Bruce's secret son reveal a lot of crap, but I think it works not as a reward to Terry, but for Bruce. Though I doubt he'd ever admit it, Terry is the best thing that ever happened to Bruce. Despite their rocky start Bruce and Terry managed to keep a relatively comfortable and caring relationship, which allowed Bruce to heal and come across old friends and mend the fences with them. By the end of the DCAU, Bruce can rest knowing that Terry will continue his legacy, enjoy the time with his remaining loved ones while he still can, and probably live long enough to meet his grandchildren. A true happy ending for the first Dark Knight.

I also loved this version of Oliver Queen and im so glad you includes him. He and Batman are very similar, and Ollie, as someone without powers, points out that the JL IS scary to regular people. Because what CAN they do if Superman goes rogue? Superman is a good man and he is, at his core, kind, but the average human doesnt know that. I loved that this Oliver, from the very beginning, was grounded, realistic, and a voice of reason. We dont even need to know his backstory as a rich boy that learned some self reliance and humility after surviving alone on a deserted island. The small comments Ollie and his friends make TELLS us that, and based on his intro in the 1st episode, we are not surprised but relieved to see Ollie saying the tough but fair stuff. Ollie and Batman are the voices of the average people in this, and they help remind the JL that the JL needs to be a part of the people to properly protect them. I just love this Batman and JL so much because they have so much care for the world, people, narrative, and the heroes as individuals that we just dont see much anymore in superhero stuff.

However, it's not for the reasons he would have done it in JLU, he did it because he felt there should always be heroes who can work behind the scenes while Superman, Wonder Woman, and all the other flashy heroes draw in the media attention. Always remember these shows being good but watching them again I’m so glad they hold up! Thanks for your videos dude always excited to see a new one pop up!!!

This makes me think back to the finale of Season 2 and Walker’s Batman Beyond Project. It’s honestly a terrible irony that she nearly replicated Bruce’s childhood for Terry, something even she addresses. I mean, maintaining the existence of a great superhero by repeating the tragedy they went through for an innocent kid who should be enjoying the very peace that hero fought for?
However, I can’t argue with the results even if it was misfortune that led to Terry losing his dad. Bruce became distant to both his Bat Family and the Justice League. He didn’t really seem to have anyone besides Ace before Terry showed up. What would Neo Gotham be like if there wasn’t a new Batman?

Spellbinder would probably be leeching off of people till he gets sloppy. I feel he'd do well robbing people.
Powers would still be alive, so I guess it would just get worse. Bis negative influence would definitely allow for more corruption to spread.
Also the worst possible fate would occur for earth Staro has better odds of succeeding in his plan.
Overall it would be bad for everyone, I just thought of a few scenarios.

However, there's something you might not have considered. Waller's "experiment" could have just easily produced a vengeful Supervillain ( or mass shooter at most).
The idea was very ill-thought out and it's only by the way of good luck ( plus Terry's parents being in his life & being decent people before Powers killed Terry's dad).
Seriously, things could have gone sideways very fast and Waller as well as Andrea having a big hand in causing a potential disaster.

    • @tristankawatsuma8962
      @tristankawatsuma8962 Год назад +2

@@seeleunit2000 Let’s say though that the plan worked and Terry grew up to become a superhero for the same reasons as Bruce. How different of a hero is he going to be? For one thing, there’s no reason for him to ever meet Bruce. So goodbye resources and personal trainer. Waller could solve the first problem, but who she gets to handle the second is really going to be important. I highly doubt she’ll ask Bruce because he’s blind to realize how eerily similar Terry’s story is to his own. There are plenty of heroes to choose from the Justice League, but she points out how Batman is different from both the meta humans and non-power heroes.

DCAU Batman is, in my opinion, the greatest version of the character ever written. It’s also the version that we as viewers spend the most time with across four different series. Batman The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Batman Beyond. We see that while he is a paranoid recluse, he also possesses a great capacity for compassion and trust. I loved the relationship between Wonder Woman and Batman, I think it’s a duo that doesn’t really get explored to this degree elsewhere, but it was one of my favorite aspects of the entire JL show. It’s a shame that he never got to be together with Wonder Woman, as evident by Batman Beyond. Because I really think Wonder Woman is the perfect match for Batman as a character. She’s light and he’s dark, he sees the worst in people and she sees the best, and she has a way of bringing out his happy side. To me that pairing is much more interesting that something predictable like Wonder Woman and Superman together.

What makes the change of Bruce from JLU to Batman Beyond so tragic is that there's an event that we can assume caused him to split off from the Justice League and become more of a loner in his older age. And that was when Tim Drake getting kidnapped by the Joker.

Batman is the greatest detective in the world. He can look at a crime scene or a person and know exactly what needs to be done to get answers. This doesn't just mean he's smart. It means he understands people. You can't know what motivates people without knowing people. In an organization like the Justice League, Batman would be a broody older brother. Knowingly not perfect, but seen enough to know how to compensate for his own failings and the failings of others.
It is the #1 thing all of Hollywood doesn't understand about Batman. He is not just a rich guy who punches people with money. His strength is not what makes him interesting. Never has been. It was always his ability to think, to work out obscure problems, find solutions where nobody can find one, and to use his presence to make thee villains all ask "Is this really worth it?"

On the Tower of Babel thing:
Surely the others knowing of the existence of the plans would severely cripple their efficacy right? Like if a psychic like Psymon were to be involved, he could scour their minds, and upon finding out that they know Batman has the contingencies, make taking out Batman and probably destroying the Batcave, Watchtower, Wayne Tech, GCPD, etc the priority situation

As somebody who misses the relative optimism of early 2000s superheroes, I would love to see a story involving a Batman that learns how to trust again after suffering a painful loss. A story that can speak to readers new and old about breaking out of self-isolation, breaking the cycle of self-sabotage and the need to blame yourself for everything, and learning how to hold the mantle of Batman in a more public light.
Perhaps a way to visually show where he is emotionally would be through his costume. Starting with a nearly all-black costume that leaves little "man" visible, and gradually recovering into something closer to his more colorful costumes of the past. Blue and light grey with a yellow oval around the black bat. Perhaps a fair bit darker than the Adam West costume, showing that he is not nor will he ever be fully healed, but that he's made and will continue to make attempts to better himself despite the emotional scars he holds.

Part of what makes animated batman so good compared to his live action counterparts is that he walks the streets instead of flying above them. If he sees trouble, he acts for the people he sees being hurt, not because of the crime. In the end, that's what sets him apart from the live action versions, they are about vengence, he is about helping those his has sworn to protect.
