from gensan airport, there's already a yellow line bus bound to marbel have the conductor drop you at marbel terminal we paid 200php
from marbel terminal, ride a bus going to surallah. have the conductor drop you at surallah terminal. we paid 45php
from surrallah terminal, find a van going to tboli. we told the driver to drop us at Crown Jewel Hotel. We paid 50php each.
we stayed at Crown Jewel Hotel. on our 1st night we got 2 standard rooms - breakfast included. each standard room costs 1,300php. since we have our laptops with us and we will be camping on lake holon on our 2nd day, we got 1 room for our things. 3rd day will be descend from lake holon and we also got 1 room for this. the hotel is very kind to grant that we only rent 1 room for the 4 of us since we'll just take a shower and rest before travelling to lake sebu that afternoon.
Crown Jewel is near the town plaza, 7/11, and a laundromat.
they have a coffee shop as well - Kakay's Coffee Shop. quality food for a cheap price. this still amazes me!

Since this is only DIY, we paid 1600php each for the tour. This includes guide fee, tourism fee, and motorcycle fare to and from lake holon - the ride is shared by 2 passengers. Since we saw some vlogs showing how challenging the ride is, we asked our organizer to find 2 more motorcyles since we want a 1:1 ratio. We have to add 650php each for the fare but boy it is so worth it! You know you can't put a price on safety. I swear, be prepared for the habal-habal ride of your life! The trail consists of several bumps! There are some cemented roads as well but it does not last long 🤣 The road is very sketchy/rocky really! It is quite an experience and definitely one for the books! If you want to see what I'm talking about, we were able to document the ride and highlighted the challenging parts. link below.

There are two trails to reach Lake Holon, namely Kule Trail (hard) and Salacafe Trail (easy) we chose Kule as our point of entry and Salacafe as a backtrail. Kule trail has a distance of 5.34km - we hiked for about 3 hours and 15mins. According to some vlogs, it took them 5-6hrs to reach the campsite from Kule Trail jump-off.
Here are the breakdown of our expenses during the hike and at the campsite:
Porter Fee - 30php per kg
Traditional Boat from End of Kule Trail to Campsite - 60php/person
Tent Fee - 300php good for 2 persons.
tarapal/tarpaulin rental - 50php
papag/bamboo bed (tent will be placed on top of this) 50php
for the tent, don't expect much, if you want a nice tent bring your own.
note on papag/bamboo bed: not comfortable. make sure to bring sleeping bag/mat for that extra cushion.
Lake and Outlet Tour via Traditional Boat - 200php/person
Fee for peeing at the comfort room - which you have to take a mini trek to reach - 10php
Fee for dumping/number 2 - 20php and you get half a pail of water
Fee for taking a bath - 30php/pail
Eventhough we did this DIY, a guide was assigned to us. Ate Guide, accommodated all our requests especially during dinner time. See expenses below.
Cost of firewood for cooking - 30php
Rental of Kaldero/Pot - 100php
Uncooked Rice - 60php (this is a lot actually we did not get to finish)
Tilapia - 80php since there's only 8pcs. this is usually sold for 100php then you get 10-12pcs
Condiments - 30php
Plate Rental - 40php in total or 10php/plate
Please note we brought food with us so we won't rely on everything in the mini stores at the campsite. they can get really expensive.
Notes:
Bring first aid kit.
Wear clothes that can protect your skin. Advisable to wear UV-protect ones.
Wear sunscreen.
Bring food trail for fuel - protein bars and energy gels.
Stay hydrated - i also bought hydration tabs for electrolytes.
Bring garbage bags.
Wear heat tech clothes.
Bring flashlight/head lamp
Bring earphones and download music - since it's a campsite, the snoring is quite loud really i wished i brought my earphones with me.
Since it's chilly, you'll find yourself to pee more often and it's quite a hassle to trek in the dark to reach the comfort room. What i did is mix the hydration tab in water (i brought a water bottle with me) and drink very little amount if i feel thirsty 🤣
Or you can buy those disposable urinal bags.
Lastly, please respect the space of others as most go on hikes and camps to disconnect and to relax. Camping etiquette states that lights off is from 10pm - 7am.
