Funny. Just reminds me of the 70’s dip solution of sour cream and a packet of onion soup mix to make chip dip, a bag of ruffles and if was a 1976 partay! The fix is the ranch and Greek yogurt for the littles. Smart and yum. Salt lick. :)
Here’s one for the dinner round… shepherds pie. My mom used to make it when she needed a fast dinner. A pound of ground beef or whatever meat you like or fake meat like beyond burger, add some beef gravy and a bag of frozen mixed veg. Layer it in the Bottom of casserole, do a layer of corn and then a layer of mashed potatoes smeared on top into fluffy peaks for pretty effect or if bored put them in a cake decor fat tip and make designs (or cut tip baggie). Sprinkle on a little cheddar or cheese avail that’s grated and pop in the oven to heat it all thru. I have no idea how my mom made the gravy part. Maybe powdered mix and water added to the ground beef which would be a fast and cheap way to make what is more involved if you make the actual flavored mix from scratch. I think the scratch has beef broth and woostershire and some tomato paste, garlic and s&p and you make a roux to thicken that up. Easy also but more steps than adding some jar gravy.
Littles like it and it’s potatoes make the veggies stick and go down without much fuss. Lol
When I took care of littles as toddlers I just kept a drive by tray of snacks off and on like you do like the toddler charcuterie. Fruits, veggies w dip, cheese sticks, crackers, hb eggs, sometimes aople sauce, etc etc. For dinners I didn’t do a lot of kid made frozen foods and just made stuff we were having cut into their size and a few things to make it look appetizing visually. I got one of those egg shapers for hb eggs which was fun for novelty and I maybe used once or twice haha. I had sandwich shape cutters and anything on a stick, a rolled up shape like lunchmeat and cheese worked.
I have a super easy meatloaf recipe from hood old weight watchers that is so simple you can do it. It’s Turkey parmesean and all mixes in one bowl. Basically Turkey, bread crumbs, grated parm, egg and a tiny bit of milk I think to stick it together and maybe a squirt of ketchup mixed in and then some slathered on top after you plop it in the pan. It tastes good bc it has parm and is innocuous for kids so they will eat it. Add ketchup for dipping, a veg and some baked or roasted potatoes. Easy dinner with leftovers.
My mom was good at cooking for kids on the flu bc she worked as a nurse and later a manager at American express’ medical dept. she was tired AF when coming home so she taught me early how to toss a whole chicken in the oven for dinner and when she got home she could make the sides and serve before the masses got restless and ugly.
Oh one more I have to send you. Canned pear half cut side down made into a bunny. Mom was on a super tight budget when we were very little so we had a lot of canned things and she could stretch meats. She made ham into ground up ham salad Sammie’s and pot roast in the crockpot was in rotation at least once a month. I don’t remember what exactly we had for snacks besides basic veggies like celery and carrot sticks, cut up apples and other fruits in season. My young childhood was in Ohio. Use what’s in season locally too. Have you taken them to pick apples or will you or are they still too little? How old are they? I love your channel for your personality and love that you do your own hair dye, manage a salon, mom the heck out of the babies and are a cool seeming person who seems very much my people. Lol. ❤ take care of yourself. Wish I lived closer and could go to your salon. I need a cut so badly and I have a tremor so am very self conscious when having to sit still. I do my own hair dye to cover what’s essentially all gray lol to dark brown and am in denial of my age. I may resort to self chopping circa 2020 to just take off some grown out bad layering I got at a cheapie hair salon. Badly. Lol. And no clue how to style layers so a bad move. How’s that for oversharing!? Xo
