You need to do most of this same drive at night & just before the traffic blocks go up in the heart of downtown its amazing how alive & crawling with people it is. Another nice long straight drive in Orlando is along International Drive not far from Universal Studios, never a dull moment in the City Beautiful
Orlando's economic engine are the attractions, but the cities heart and soul is outside of the attractions. The people that live in Orlando (many of which are people that work at the attractions) like the fact that [outside the airport and the attractions area] the city itself resembles more of a regular city like Jacksonville and Tampa. Although Orlando is the #1 tourism destination in the country and has one of the biggest universities in the country, in many places it still very much has that back-woods southern feel and the people that live here love that.
Born and Raised here. Have cruised these streets so many times. In the 90s there was still a lot of shops down Orange Ave, lotta bus trips on the Lynx down there to skate and just hang out.
I grew up in Orlando in the 1960-1970's. I recognized a few buildings, but for the most part - it looks completely different now. My Dad worked at the building next to the Orlando Sentinel Building from 1966-1973. Haven't been back to Orlando since 1987... wow
Blue Diamond haha funny you say that because I lived in San Diego for a few months and came back to Florida I'm about an hour and a half south of Orlando on the East Coast and about an hour and a half north of Miami ...Orlando ,Miami,tampa,lauderdale.. Florida in general is very diverse has all kinds of Hispanic Mexican and Salvadorian Puerto Rican Cuban Dominican we have a lot of Canadians a lot of northeastern's Florida is very laid-back in a sense but the people here compared to the the people California is almost the same except for the whole liberal thing but most people are laid back here it's a hit or miss and yes Florida has the most dangerous cities on the top 100 dangerous cities in America we have 11 here in Florida alone that's more than any other state
Blue Diamond I’ve lived in Orlando most of my life. And I’ve never really experienced racism at all. There’s plenty of Mexicans here. I’m Puerto Rican and Dominican myself and live in west Orlando. You may get a few stares every now and then. But Orlando is one of the most peaceful cities there are. I’ve been to Kissimmee a lot, and that’s where most of the Hispanic people live. It’s pretty relaxed over there. I’m happy with where I live although it tends to be more expensive in Orlando due to all of the tourists. But yeah, there’s beautiful people here lol, you’ve got the Brazilians, Colombians, Venezuelans, pretty much all of South America has plenty of people that live here.
contrary to the belief of many, you don't need to drive faster or add music to your videos. These are a perfect resource and an alternative to the choppy street view driving experience for virtual tourism. I am doing a large tour of Florida cities for a photobook i am working on and am glad i was able to pull landmark notes from here beforehand. THANK YOU J UTAH!!
Don't people get bored of watching an hour of just driving regularly? Also, I feel like you might here more mutterings from the driver if you can hear the audio. I can see why people might like the regular speed of driving however. It is easier to look around and get a feel for what you're looking at, whereas sometimes when the driving is too fast, you miss out on the details. What about red lights? Do you like those or would you want those edited out?
The City Beautiful heading down Orange Ave by day but it's the totally hot & vibrant night scene that will truly captivate you again & again! The side streets like Wall & Church St are kin to being on Bourbon St in NOLA on weekends & so many great restaurants besides the bars & clubs. Lived & Loved it for 7 solid years hope to make it back some day to retire #LoveOrlando #SunshineStateLife #GoMagic #GoLions #GoPride #GoSolarBears #GoPredators
I feel like Downtown Orlando should follow or mimic what downtown Bellevue WA did it's really amazing. Escpically near the Amway center area this would be big for Downtown Orlando. I understand about the airport being nearby but you can still make it work. I recommend everyone to see J Utah Belluvue video to see what I mean.
I enjoyed the drive around dntn Orlando, but if you ever go back, please drive by Lake Eola, or preferably, around it. That is a real landmark for people who grew up in that area, especially those of us who were there before Disney. I'm just a little bummed that I watched for 30+ minutes, and all the times you were almost there, or could easily have gone there, you turned, even when it was just to retrace your steps! Grrrrr-r-r-r-r, but in general, it was good.
nice video, maybe next video lets get a real feel for Orlando's rush hour or where Orlando's hot spots tend to be for those who want to move out there and invest.
I'm curious - is The Colonial Plaza Mall still there off Colonial Drive??? I used to hang out in Jordan Marsh Dept. Store all the time, and used to work in The North Mall... waaaay back in 1976-1978.... what about Fashion Square Mall? Winter Park Mall? Altamonte Mall near Castleberry???
Parts of the Colonial Plaza are still there, Fashion Square is still there, WP mall unfortunately has been gone for a long time, and Florida Mall is still there.
The red traffic lights in the second part of this video are worse than in NYC. I mean, how often does the lady in the striped top passed you? Never expected that.
Too bad you didnt drive down Central Blvd towards Thornton Park district. Thats one of the most active street downtown, with Lake Eola, condos, and boutique shops lined with over grown trees.

+The Biggest Controversy Have visited in the past. They are major attractions (some of the most visited attractions in the US). Would recommend! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourist_attractions_in_the_United_States
Can anybody tell me how is Orlando comparing to Tampa ? Is it better ? Tampa is full of junks and dangerous, besides there is nothing to see in downtown, except the riverwalk.
tampa St. Pete area has a better job market...plus...tampa has the bay and is 20-30 minutes from the gulf. orlando is majority service sector jobs and nothing to do here locally..except the tourist traps/disney ...etc.
I have lived in both and prefer living in Orlando over Tampa but it depends on what you're looking for. If you're into beach or being near the water Tampa is the way better option, but if you want to be next to lots of great attractions Orlando is the better route. Someone referenced Orlando being mostly all low pay service economy and that is true, but Tampa isn't much different.
That's not true friend, it just depends on where you are in the USA. Older cities, like in the Northeast or Midwest, tend to have stronger pedestrian cultures within a dense urban environment. Good examples are Jersey City, Cincinatti, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Baltimore, D.C etc. Orlando on the other hand, like a lot of cities in the Southeast, is a new city---only been around for about 50 years. Orlando grew when cars were already around so it has a very spread out nature.
klenezinjo - American downtowns are basically just where all the office buildings are. People just go there during the week to work and then go back home to the suburbs.
