My heart has since turned toward Christ, but my husband can not be convinced to marry me because he has such distain for the government’s involvement in marriage. I tell him that I want to become one with him *in Christ alone* but his heart is still hardened to the idea. At the marriage feast at Cana, Jesus brought agape-love to eros-love. Agape-love completes eros-love. A marriage won't last without it. Romance will wane in the best of marriages, but agape-love abides in the best of marriages. Faith and hope also abide. Faith + charity = fidelity.

      If he divorced for any other reason than his first wife having sex with another person, then his divorce is not valid in the Lord's eyes. My husband and I were atheists for the first 10ish years of our relationship; I started to search for the truth when I was 29. I found the Orthodox Church and attended for almost 2 years alone. I did not push it on him or fight about it with him, I would share if he showed interest, otherwise I simply attended and started to move towards a more Orthodox life myself. After a time he started to see the good in the church that he wasn't seeing elsewhere and he started joining me for services even though he still didn't believe. He was just moved by all the truth he saw the church, I don't know if I'm explaining well but that is was he noticed. He still didn't believe however, he thought it was superstition and more or less luck that the church had hit on so many truths. After around one more year, his eyes were opened we were baptized together with our three sons, praise God.

    Can an orthodox marriage be restored if infidelity has occurred?

  • @ownser1
    @ownser1 9 месяцев назад

    I know what I’m about to ask is a sensitive topic that people will say I need to go to a spiritual father for advice on, but I’m going to bring it up anyways hoping to get some insight.
    I still struggle with the idea that it is a sin to have any kind of sexual intercourse within marriage without the intention to procreate. If the couple is still doing their part by having children, why is this considered a sin if every interaction is not solely for having a baby?
    I’ve heard the argument that it is because we are seeking to have the pleasure without the responsibility, but again if the couple is having babies then why is it an issue? Does that then make it a sin to have dessert after dinner because we are abusing the pleasure system of eating? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to this and discuss!

    • @SmiteD1925
      @SmiteD1925 9 месяцев назад

      Marriage is for child bearing. If you don't want to have children, not trying or won't even adopt, then you shouldn't get married. Authentic Human Sexual Experience is a undeserved gift from God, a cherry on top. This is opposed to simple animal mating where the enjoyment of the participants aren't a necessary factor.
      Misusing any gift from God is a sin. This begs the question: "Well, how do we know what sex is sinful or not?" and the answer is Sodom and Gomorrah
      Sodomy or "the sin of Sodom" isnt simply the sin of homosexuality (as the term sodomite is usually uses for); it's the sin of sexual immorality a.k.a sexual relations without morality a.k.a sexual relations without taking Good as God see it (truth) into consideration.
      Now as a creation, your parts were made with purpose. Were anal cavities made for genitals and objects or is it made for waste? Were mouths used for genitals or were they made for food going in and love/praise coming out? Touching/kissing is definitely a part of AHSE but there should be a clear line so that the couple doesn't put sexual pleasure over what is Good in God's eyes ever, even in the bedroom (And that line for most Christians should be "Don't have sex like a sodomite")

    • @jamesdiluzio9906
      @jamesdiluzio9906 9 месяцев назад +1

      I have heard many priests say that is not the teaching of the Church.

    • @LadyMaria
      @LadyMaria 9 месяцев назад

      Even if a couple isn't having babies it isn't a sin in Orthodox marriage to have relations as long as there's nothing thwarting having children if God wills it. Another words, no artificial contraceptives, barrier methods, pulling out, etc. A couple has to be open to the possibility of having children even if remote like in the case of infertility or the woman is not on her ovulation cycle.
      We do not have marital relations on fast days, fasting periods, the evening before receiving Holy Communion, or the 12 Great Feasts of the Church. This was told to me by a devout Bishop and is part of the Faith (it actually used to be a lot more intense but has been relaxed as much as it can be). Fasting means fasting. On Great Feasts, our focus should be on Christ only. Of course for those who are weak, one's spiritual father might work with them and make temporary exception to long fasting periods, but it's not to be taken lightly.

    • @LadyMaria
      @LadyMaria 9 месяцев назад

      @@SmiteD1925The Orthodox teaching is that marriage is for sanctification of the couple, and the fruit being children if God wills it. One does not have to adopt if one cannot have children. As long as they are open to children they can be married in the Church.

      OK, first, realise that OFTEN God will ALLOW you to continue to struggle with a sin. You have willingly, and out of love, taken up The Cross. What is that Cross? It is YOU confronting YOU. Over and over again. Do not allow the enemy to convince you that you are defeated. This is a marathon. It is a long war. A war of attrition. You must struggle. And your struggle may be exactly what God wants you doing - suffering the disappointments and failures in your journey, suffering with Him. And for Him. And while you must try to defeat this sin, remember that it may be the very works God has appointed for you. He is not yet ready to lift this curse from you. Orthodoxy is not a magic potion! It is the path of lifelong struggle.
      I think of my battle with temptation and sin as if it is this long war of attrition. There will be MANY days when the enemy will win tactical victories over me, convincing my flesh to sin, and he will succeed at the occasional ambush, BUT I am 100% convinced that just as the Allies defeated Germany in WW2, sometimes suffering very great counterattacks from the enemy, and suffering many enemy successes against them, they stayed the course, and the enemy won a great many battles, but still lost the war, so too will I prevail, in time.
      Get an icon of the Inexhaustible Cup. Get one of St. Mary of Egypt. Pray. Fast.
      You will find as you follow the Orthodox Path, as the years go by (and they WILL likely be years!) and you struggle against this sin, it will become less and less appealing over time.
      God bless you, and may the Mother of God help you through her prayers.
