Hi! I've JUST NOW came across this Video. I'm not changing the Rotors myself. But I am curious.... You mention Washing the Rotors,. Do you mean the Brand New Rotor?? Why do you recommend that, Is there some kind of coating on them? Thanks!!🙂
@@DaughterofTheKing960 ASE states that while spraying them with brake clean is OK, to get the real grim off the rotors is hot water and dish soap, if you take the test and put brake clean on rotors that's the wrong answer, soap and water only thing by the way DAWN is the best yes new rotors sometimes has a non rust coating on them that must be taken off NOT THE SIVER COATING ON ROTOR Thanks for asking 21years teaching ASE L1 Master
pushing that caliper back in with screw driver first is great idea!! Thanks for great very detailed video. This is my first Ford in long time since a Ranger, I wanted to see if it was about same. Well I guess all pad replacement is about the same but Thanks
Rich, thank you for your detail on sizes and torque specs. Nice techniques on keeping from dinging the studs when breaking the rotors free, the spacers to keep the rotor in place when reassembling!
I love hearing the accent!! LOL!! My wife grew up in Lawrence and I said, this guys gotta be from Mass! LOL!! Sure enough, I see the Mass tag on the front! I do get a bit crotchety with these manufacturers!! Read is 13m so it figures the front would be different....as some one else pointed out, they have you buying one of this and one of that.....well...at least I can justify my Advance auto charge on the bank statement!! LOL!
Smashing job rich :-D You made that look easy, as always :-D So just the pad near the piston wanted a fight. Yes silicone grease, i was told to use it when i did my mates motorcycle brakes, i'ts safe for the rubber im told.
Simple and sweet. I ll be under the car in the morning hopefully no where near as rusty as that one. Must be a salty area you live in . Thanks for the basics and keeping the bullshit to a minimum
I changed out my brake pads today on my 2014 escape and the pads are are rubbing on the inside of my rotors an for some reason they look uneven on the rotor. What could I have done wrong?
Curious...I see ramps, so you must have driven the car up onto them before jacking it up even more and putting the jackstands under it so you could take the tires off. Is there any benefit to raising the car this way as opposed to not using the ramps and just jacking it up off the ground?
On the 2016 Ford Edge the front caliper bolts are 11 mm hex. Leave it to fords to make everyone go buy an 11 mm as every average set Allen key set. It stops at 10mm
If the brakes are pulsing odds are you warped the rotor and it's not worth having them turned for the price of a new one. Or if they are gouged or pitted
Finally, someone doing a DYI video correctly, good job, also wash rotors with dish soap and hot water, dry with WHITE paper towel only, nice job

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Rich!! I'm going to do mine tomorrow and this was a perfect instructional video. Keep up the great content.
Glad it helped
@@RichpinTv it went well yesterday doing the brake job. Thanks to you! Love your content and the way you narrate things.
Thank you Rich for the detailed video. I'm about to go do mine now.
Thank you so much! Your video and details saved me a lot of headache and help keep swearing to a minimum

Thank you for this video, Peter. Tell Lois and the kids i said Hello
Great job my friend
Glad to see a repair video again...great job as always Rich!!
7mm Allen head ahhhh!!! That’s a trip back to the parts store 😂
Same with me lol
Buy a set you won't regret it
do i need a torx bit for a rotor retaining screw, or not necessary with this job?
Lmao literally doing the same thing as we speak...
Or 1/4" which is more common allen
Thank you so much for the video. Very informative..👍🏼

Is that Peter Griffin changing the brakes?
I had to take a moment to catch my breath and take this video seriously after I read that. I couldn't unhear it lmao
😂
😂😂😂

You made that look easy, as always :-D

Yes silicone grease, i was told to use it when i did my mates motorcycle brakes, i'ts safe for the rubber im told.
I find that silicone grease is handy stuff.
looks good, whats the torque setting on the caliper bracket bolts?
Thank you sir video help a lot
Best to replace entire vehicle :)
Great job.
Can you do a video for the rear..
Very good demonstration will follow this video when doing my brake job, also do you need to open brake oil reservoir before remove breaks ??
i usually open te reservoir so i can keep an eye on the level, you dont want it to overflow
Simple and sweet. I ll be under the car in the morning hopefully no where near as rusty as that one. Must be a salty area you live in . Thanks for the basics and keeping the bullshit to a minimum
On other people’s vehicles I don’t bother cleaning the piston off or inspecting before pushing back onto the caliber but in my own vehicles I do lol
Thank you.
Always necessary to replace rotors?
I changed out my brake pads today on my 2014 escape and the pads are are rubbing on the inside of my rotors an for some reason they look uneven on the rotor. What could I have done wrong?
Did you ever figure this out? I think mine is the same and the rotor is heating up
Thank You for the video.

Is there any benefit to raising the car this way as opposed to not using the ramps and just jacking it up off the ground?
The reason i do it this way is i can better see see were to jack and i do not have to jack as much.
Zero benefit unless the car is lowered or extremely low stock.
Are the brakes on a 2016 Ford Edge the same as these?
I do have to say I believe a 04 Dodge Grand Caravan has the exact same break set up
do i use same brake replacement shoes on rear brakes or they are different from front brakes?
Always different. 90 percent of the time the front end brakes are about 30 percent larger. It does most the braking in basic applications
I just watched this to see how the clips came off and used your spacer with one nut to keep the rotor in place too.
Glad it was helpful.
7:40 "stay there" I say that all the time.
Lol. It's like when you ratchet strap something down and it's hard not to say or think, "well that's not going anywhere..."
I replaced all my pads and now the e brake is no longer tight. Checked the cable and nothing broken , any insights ?
You may have air in your lines.
On the 2016 Ford Edge the front caliper bolts are 11 mm hex. Leave it to fords to make everyone go buy an 11 mm as every average set Allen key set. It stops at 10mm
did I see Blue thread locker on the bolts for the pad holder??
Very usefull; thanks:
im apprently the only one that can take the metal clip off with my hand
What manufacturers of rotors and pads???
Leave it to Ford to put Allen head bolts on a brake assembly.
Explain each part what it is and what it does
No need to bleed the brakes?
no the brake line was never opened
No, unless u open brake lines you never need to bleed. Only pump brake pedle a few times b 4 driving
where can I get a 2013 escape repair manual ?
lol
How do I know I need to change my rotor too?
I change mine if its super rusty or has scoring/lines from worn down brake pads.
If the brakes are pulsing odds are you warped the rotor and it's not worth having them turned for the price of a new one. Or if they are gouged or pitted
Not a recommended way to compress the caliper piston.. master cylinder damage
How do you reccomend? I usually take the fill cap off, amd do that with a small tool I built, I dont usually do it till the caliper is off.
I hate when people point out a bad way of doing something, but then don't bother to tell the recommended way.
