The more I’ve read the more he seems overconfident in his Philo Of Alexandria hypotheses. I’m intrigued in seeing more secular scholars debate the historicity of Jesus Christ but it would be preferable for it to be by people who don’t just outright find Christianity offensive. I like carrier, but he sometimes comes across as a disillusioned former Christian. I like the point he makes that there are too many Jesus apologists with evangelical agendas in the field. But I also don’t think historians with a grudge is any better.

Jeffrey Hughes I personally like that there’s poetry to the structure, and that there are elaborate ideas within the plot. But complexity doesn’t necessarily make it good literature. I think it’s important to be able to make the option that religious writings can be appreciated as literature and that some of it is amazing and some of it is awful. There’s a book that was helpful in this type of appreciation called “the enjoyment of scripture “

    • @algoenespanol
      @algoenespanol 4 года назад +8

its yaboii I mean if you believe that Jesus is god and god can do the impossible, of course you would hold Jesus to that standard. I personally don’t think that either being religious or atheist is easy. Life is hard no matter what. You just have different obstacles. Your experience might make theism harder so it’s a relief to have freedom from that. I think we hold on to stories that have meaning and show us a path. Sometimes science or idealism are a good vehicle for it. Some people need a supernatural narrative and belief adds value to that narrative. I don’t like to knock people for their beliefs. People’s behavior on the other hand is worth serious criticism. Sometimes unhealthy behavior comes from belief systems and that’s also worth examining.

    • @soulcage6228
      @soulcage6228 4 года назад +4

@Leon thecat The list of Christians that contributed to the field of science is a quite bit more extensive than that. If your claim is all or even most scientific thinkers of antiquity were "pretending" to be Christian, you would have to support it with evidence. Also, why do you think science and religion have to be at odds? Plenty of modern Christian scientists and doctors would scoff at the idea. Ever consider they are intended to address different aspects of reality?

    • @soulcage6228
      @soulcage6228 4 года назад +1

@Leon thecat *"These stories were presented and disseminated to placate and control the base instincts of the masses"*
To be brief, religion deals with morality and the concept of right and wrong. This isn't within the purview of science, which is intended to tell us what's true about the physical world. If by "control" you mean it lays ground work for how we should treat each other, then for that I am grateful. You should be as well. Do you believe in objective morality? That is, a standard of right and wrong that transcends the personal opinions of all humans?
The bible is not a science book btw. If you've categorized it as such you're doing it and yourself a disservice.

    • @soulcage6228
      @soulcage6228 4 года назад

@Leon thecat *"The bible presents itself as a science book."*
Have you read the bible? It's a collection of 66 books from 40 different authors. These books have varying genres, from proverbs, poetry in song of Solomon, and recorded history in books like Kings and Chronicles. The main "scientific" claim that the bible makes is that the universe had a beginning. Something that we've recently confirmed with the BGV theorem.
      *"Morality? Hogwash."*
You still haven't answered the question. Do you believe that an objective moral standard exists? Can't use evolution, because some people have "evolved" to think murder is acceptable. If that's the case, how can we say that they are acting immorally?

    The viral nature of religion;
The following Christian groups appeared between the beginnings of the Christian religion to the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. Not all believed in the divinity of Jesus, each had their own holy scriptures or interpretations of holy writings, the Bible did not exist.
    • Adamites
    • Ebionites
    • Elcesaites
    • Marcionism
    • Nazarenes
Unlike the previously mentioned groups, the following are all considered to be related to Christian Gnosticism.
    • Bardaisanites
    • Basilideans
    • Carpocratianism
    • Nicolaitans
    • Sethianism
    • Simonians (sometimes considered proto-Gnostic)
    • Valentinianism
    Medieval sects
The following are groups of Christians appearing between the First Council of Nicaea and the Protestant Reformation which are generally considered extinct as modern and distinct groups, many at the hands of the most dominant Christian cult, Roman Catholicism.
    • Agonoclita
    • Beguines and Beghards
    • Bogomilism
    • Bosnian Church
    • Brethren of the Free Spirit
    • Catharism
    • Donatism
    • Dulcinian
    • Friends of God
    • Patarines
Since medieval times there has been an explosion (a big Bang) of different sects, cults, orthodoxies and churches all claiming to be the true followers of Christ which of course includes the Apologetics movement as a distinct theocracy.
Jesus was simply a figure head, Modern Christianity is big business with a fantasy figure head.

The gospels illustrate the very _definition_ of myth.
      Here, I will demonstrate so:
And because you apparently do not know the definition of 'myth', I will provide one with examples.
*myth* - noun *_dictionary.com_* (parenthetical examples mine)
      1. Traditional (Christian) or legendary story (the crucifixion of Jesus), usually concerning some being (son of god) or hero (messiah) or event (resurrection), with or *_without_* a determinable basis of fact (evidence) or a natural explanation (supernatural), especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods (father, son, holy spirit) and explains some practice (prayer), rite (salvation), or phenomenon of (origin of species).
      2. Stories or matter of this kind (raising of Lazarus, walking on water, calming a sea, betrayed by noble disciple for 30 pieces of silver).
      3. Any _invented_ story (life of Jesus), idea (eternal life), or concept (salvation).
      4. An _imaginary or fictitious_ thing (empty tomb) or person (Jesus)
      5. An _unproved_ (unverified, unreilable, and unauthenticated gospel accounts) or false collective belief (faith) that is used to justify a social institution (church).

First of all, how does a mere *explanation of nature's behaviour* tell anyone how they should run their lives?? You understand how "descriptive" and "prescriptive" are different things, right?
Second, *even* if you were right, so what? If a criminal ends up finding inspiration in the correct and valid work of a scientist, how does that make the scientist guilty or its work any less credible? Imagine we arrest a serial killer and, in court, we asked him *why* did he do it, just to have the raving lunatic answer that he got inspiration for his crimes in the theory of gravity!! Should we then "outlaw" gravity? Or perhaps hold gravity accountable as well (guilty by association)? Or should we just understand that crazies will be crazies?
My point is, *get real,* dude!! I know that it must suck having your pet beliefs smashed by *Science* but trying to make Science sound "guilty" somehow, just to get back at it, is dumb as shit!!! If you wanna point the finger at anyone for those millions of dead jews, point it at christianity, because it supported nazism from day one! Leave Science alone, because its goal is *saving* lives!

      @BrutusAlbion 4 года назад +10

      @John MacArthur
"no one knows when to take the Bible literally and when to take it figuratively."
You are correct. The bible warns about this very fact (but no one actually takes it serious). That the false believers will turn everything upside down by the end. Spiritual and Physical are switched out. Now that you know this, it is easier to revert it back to the truth since all you need to do is find out what the common interpretation is and find the twist that makes it correct again.
I will now try to answer the question on the fig tree as best as I can.
      Parable of The Fig Tree:
"Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, 'May you never bear fruit again!' Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. 'How did the fig tree wither so quickly?' they asked. Jesus replied, 'Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.'"
      My answer:
Jesus was in Jerusalem the capitol of the Israelites, which is also supposed to be the spiritual city of god. Jesus is hungry, is he physically hungry? No he is hungry for the truth and the fruit of the spirit that is supposed to reside within Jerusalem/Israel. But there is nothing there, it is a spiritual wasteland and therefore the tree (Israel) only has leaves and bears no fruit.
Will you let falsehoods and wrong belief stay within your heart that will not allow your soul and understanding to develop? Every false belief inside of your mind will not produce fruit but it will take up valuable space from which new trees could grow and produce fruit.
When you learn a new truth that changes your reality and abolishes the old falsehood. You cast away the falsehood and create space for new truth (new tree) and fruit (realizations of that truth) to develop. The very essence of science is to discard that which is false and allow new ideas to prosper. When you cast away the falsehoods, the tree (neural network, since they have a similar appearance in branching pattern as a tree) in your mind that upholds that belief instantly starts to wither away upon realization. The mountain (perceived obstacles and blockage of thought) that was preventing you from moving on will also be thrown into the sea and disappear allowing you to develop your mind and soul further, thus creating a new path towards truth and further understanding.
      The Common Christian Narrative:
The explanation for this verse is that the fig tree (''only'') resembles Israel/Jerusalem and that Jesus declares that it should wither because the jews have fallen out of favor with god. All you need is faith and you can move mountains.
(Jerusalem is destroyed by the romans later and thus the (supposed) prophecy is made true.)
The truth (imho) is that both explanations that I gave are true but some only pay attention to the tree being israel and that being faithful till stupidity (somehow) pays off lmao.
You will notice clearly that (most of) the Christians who follow the common interpretation don't believe in science because they never understood the part about Jesus telling them that they themselves can do the same and tell the tree to wither inside of them so as to move mountains. They continue to feed a fruitless fig tree through sheer stubbornness of faith.
You may think I am stretching with my interpretation but I am quite serious. The reason I say this is because if you are advanced enough in meditation/prayer you can actually see your own neural network inside your mind. It's a skill you can develop if you learn to properly pray which is not taught in church. It is a skill which is actually quite hard to develop and cannot be easily explained just as it cannot be explained how you should move your limbs or breath for example. You simply do.
But when you do properly pray with your heart, a light will appear inside your inner mind that will guide you through your own mind and neural highways and allow you to reshape and correct yourself and eradicate falsehoods. This skill seems to have been neglected and common church prayer nowadays is just doing a little mantra and saying amen at the end. A fools ritual ...
Science and Spirituality are not in contradiction with each other. Those that perceive conflicts are the ones who are feeding fruitless fig trees and thinking if they just wait a little longer the fig tree will produce fruit again.
The reason Jesus did not answer these things directly in this parable is because the people who feed fruitless fig trees would obviously misinterpret the parable and avoid personal responsibility and just blame israel instead. Those that understand and realize the truth will see the parable with their own eyes and understand the greater meaning which was hidden on purpose and let the dead fig tree inside of them wither and see mountains move as their faith is reaffirmed and prospers.
The parables are intentionally obfuscated in such a manner that false believers will not find the correct answer and be hypocrites in their believes. Those that truly seek will continue searching and searching until they one day find the answer after hard work. The hard work that the false believers were not willing to put in.
I do not go to church or follow any church doctrine. I think church is cancer and a mind control system and therefore do not bother with all the thousands of ridiculous denominations or interpretations of fools. Church is literally a fruitless fig tree.
If you are looking for the truth in earnest and keep an open mind and heart. You will find the way. That is all that is asked of you in this life. Looking for the Truth is the same as looking for God but most importantly ... looking for the true you. It is always an ever going quest to find the Truth and your True Self, those that say they know, they don't know and those that say they don't know, they know more than those that say they do. For one is at least looking for new perspectives whereas the other is staring at the same dead spot the entire time waiting for magical fruit to appear.
If you are critical of the bible, that is the proper way of reading it my friend. Only fools read and believe instantly whatever they read. Let the fools be fools but let your own imagination speak to you and guide you so as to allow all possible interpretations no matter how crazy they may be enter into your mind and you will find new paths and new ways to develop your soul and ultimately the truth will open up and you will taste the fruit of your labor.
You must first throw away of what you think a christian is or what faith even means since it is clearly based on something rigged (and false natured) that you have seen around you and come to accept as real. Stop feeding that tree. That is not what faith truly is. Faith is like following a path knowing that if you keep on the path you will find the destination you were heading for in your heart. It's a trail of bread crumbs that will eventually lead to the river of life from which you will drink and understand.
Hope this helped a little bit.
      Plz take care friend.

@John MacArthur I see and I completely understand that perspective as one who held it as well at one time.
I wish I could show you what I could see so you would understand but alas I cannot, you can hopefully trust my word as a fellow human to human who wishes nothing more than to share truth with another. Not faith, but truth my friend. Like telling you that your tail light is broken. I will tell you when it is functioning instead.
The (active) Holy Spirit is a real thing, it's not a mystical thing and many people claim to have it when they do not. They just pretend that they do. It's rather simple to know whether you have it active or not. It's a light that shines inside your mind when you close your eyes or heck even when you don't close them. It's literally (and NOT figuratively) a light that shines within. Many Christians claim they have the holy spirit but they don't even know what it really is or how it looks like.
So what is it really? I will tell you. It's a piece of the original source fractal that generates and sustains our universe and our souls, it is the soul itself in practice.
Fractals are these weird mathematical multi-dimensional oddities that are both subject and object, infinite and finite. It's math in its most beautiful and living form and you should try to look them up if you are interested in them scientifically. It is truly fascinating and yet barely comprehensible.
Jesus could not speak about fractals or the truth of our reality because many of these words did not exist in his time. That is why parables and objects with similar appearance are used throughout time and faiths from all over the world to resemble these incomprehensible concepts so as to approach the truth in a understandable way.
You will know when you have found the truth when the light shines within you my friend.
Similarly in many ways I have not changed my beliefs since I was an atheist because my faith was never contingent on fairy tales but built on broadening science and spirituality until it fitted neatly and properly. I simply expanded my understanding and definitions of words to be more broad and encompassing loosening the restrains on my mind and thinking freely. When you broaden your perspective, you will see that you've been looking with one eye closed for the truth.
People of faith are blind in that they lack scientific understanding and cannot apply their faith to science and thus reject it with stubborn conviction that lacks truth.
People of science are blind in that they fail to broaden their understanding of scripture and fail to realize spirituality is the application of science in a broader human context and thus they firmly reject faith thinking it lacks meaning.
Find the middle path that combines both.
I wish you well and thank you for reading and considering my words.

At 9:30 you claim The disciples follow Jesus with no reason. Did you read Luke? Why would you misrepresent what the gospels say like this. For those curious here is what is what causes them to follow him, and they even express amazement; “On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.”

Mark says that, _as_ Jesus was walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw them and said "come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men", and _immediately_ they left their nets and followed. There is no room to fit everything in Luke into this story. It require mental gymnastics.
Luke's story is his own creation, a reification of the parable attributed to Jesus in Mt. 13:47-48. It is a symbolic story. John used the same story structure in John 21:3-11.
I don't think Mark is telling lies. He is telling parables, with Jesus cast as the central character, to articulate the meaning of the gospel. Carrier discusses the fig tree episode in this video as a good example of this.

Where we can check (and this is the key that the critics ALWAYS forget--even after I have told them that they will forget, they do it!), the Bible has ALWAYS been found to be correct. And the critics of the Bible have ALWAYS been found to be wrong. The thing to note is that the critics are ALWAYS wrong. They claim to be smarter than the ignorant goat-herders who wrote the Bible (none of the writers of the Bible were goat-herders so they are wrong on that claim) and we certainly have more knowledge today than they did way back then. But, it is ALWAYS the critics who are found to be wrong--now why is that? Shouldn't they have been right at least 50% of the time? If the critics of the Bible were so much smarter than the writers of the Bible, we should think that they'd be ALWAYS right. Instead we we find that they are ALWAYS wrong. If you knew that a weather forecaster was ALWAYS wrong, how much longer would he/she be on the air? We have the joke that you can tell when a politician is lying--their lips are moving. Given the cont'd failure of the Bible critics to get even ONE, just one(!), thing right, I would suggest that the joke applies to them as well.
      Two concrete examples will suffice:
      1) When Herodotus (c. 484 BC - c. 425 BC) wrote ab't the fall of Babylon, he could not tell you who was in charge of the city (all sort of other alleged details tho'! See www.livius.org/articles/person/darius-the-great/sources/capture-of-babylon-herodotus/). Likewise, Xenophon, (born c. 430 bce, Attica, Greece-died shortly before 350, Attica), (see www.cyropaedia.org/2013/12/09/xenophons-cyropaedia-and-persian-oral-history-part-two/). Yet Daniel, which is supposed to have been written 3 centuries later, could tell us!
      2) [LOTS OF EXAMPLES IN THE BOOK!] faithsaves.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Ancient-Orient-and-Old-Testament-Kenneth-Kitchen.pdf, see PDF page 30, "the price of twenty shekels of silver paid for Joseph in Genesis 37:28 is the correct average price for a slave in about the [page 54] eighteenth century BC:94 earlier than this, slaves were cheaper (average, ten to fifteen shekels), and later they became steadily dearer.95" and then on PDF page 33 "The total evidence, therefore, accords very well with a date for the Patriarchs in the twentieth to eighteenth centuries BC, and shows a reasonable degree of consistency when properly interpreted.105"
      All this means,
      1) the books could NOT have been written as late as is claimed, because the correct knowledge would have been lost.
      2) when the critics err so often on the simple stuff, why should anyone trust them on the more complex issues? The same lack of research and lousy hermeneutics that CREATED the simple errors are magnified on the more complex.

@John Bergeron Ron Wyatt was a nurse anesthetist. He had no training or expertise in archaeology.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Wyatt
Wyatt was not considered credible by professional archaeologists and biblical scholars. The Garden Tomb Association of Jerusalem state in a letter they issue to visitors on request:
The Council of the Garden Tomb Association (London) totally refute the claim of Wyatt to have discovered the original Ark of the Covenant or any other biblical artifacts within the boundaries of the area known as the Garden Tomb Jerusalem. Though Wyatt was allowed to dig within this privately owned garden on a number of occasions (the last occasion being the summer of 1991) staff members of the Association observed his progress and entered his excavated shaft. As far as we are aware nothing was ever discovered to support his claims nor have we seen any evidence of biblical artifacts or temple treasures.
Archaeologist Joe Zias of Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) has stated that "Ron Wyatt is neither an archaeologist nor has he ever carried out a legally licensed excavation in Israel or Jerusalem. In order to excavate one must have at least a BA in archaeology which he does not possess despite his claims to the contrary. ... [His claims] fall into the category of trash which one finds in tabloids such as the National Enquirer, Sun etc."
Wyatt's official organization, Wyatt Archaeological Research (WAR), claims that the IAA have always been aware of the excavations and issued "verbal permits" for most of them and official permits to all WAR excavations since 2002. Nevertheless, the only evidence of WAR involvement in a legitimate excavation sanctioned by the IAA relates to WAR part-funding of a 2005 dig.
Evangelicals have also been critical of Wyatt's claims: Answers in Genesis called Wyatt's claims "fraudulent", and David Merling, a Seventh-day Adventist professor of archaeology addressed the issues of Wyatt's Noah's Ark and anchor stones with the following:
While the Durupinar site is about the right length for Noah's ark, [it is] ... too wide to be Noah's ark. Wyatt has claimed that the "boat-shapedness" of this formation can only be explained by its being Noah's ark, but both Shea and Morris have offered other plausible explanations. Likewise, Wyatt has argued that the standing stones he has found are anchors, while Terian is aware of similar stones outside the Durupinar site area that were pagan cultic stones later converted by Christians for Christian purposes.
      www.christiancourier.com/articles/1511-ron-wyatt-the-indiana-jones-of-the-sda-church
For the last twenty-two years of his life, he made numerous trips to the Middle East. The claims associated with his “discoveries” would make Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones pale into oblivion.
Yet more than two decades after his death, the ongoing boasts of his unparalleled “finds” are heralded via the Wyatt Archaeological Research website and the various competing factions that publicize his exploits.
      Ron Wyatt Exposed
His work has been debunked thoroughly by professional archaeologists and respected biblical scholars.
On August 8, 1996, Joe Zias, Curator of Anthropology/Archaeology with the Israel Antiquities Authority (Jerusalem), issued the following statement:
“Mr. Ron Wyatt is neither an archaeologist nor has he ever carried out a legally licensed excavation in Israel or Jerusalem. In order to excavate one must have at least a BA in archaeology which he does not possess despite his claims to the contrary. We are aware of his claims which border on the absurd as they have no scientific basis whatsoever nor have they ever been published in a professional journal. They fall into the category of trash which one finds in tabloids such as the National Enquirer, Sun, etc. It’s amazing that anyone would believe them...” (www.tentmaker.org/WAR/Zias.html).
Wyatt’s religious affiliation was with the Seventh-day Adventist sect. Ironically, the most thorough exposé of the gentleman’s claims was produced by two scholars of his own denomination - Russell R. and Colin D. Standish.
The Standish brothers were identical twins from New South Wales, Australia. Russell (who died in 2008) was a physician, hospital administrator, and a medical missionary. Colin is the founder and president of Hartland College in Virginia.
Both were ordained as ministers in the conservative branch of SDA church. They have been prolific writers, co-authoring numerous books, among which is Holy Relics or Revelation - Recent Astounding Archaeological Claims Evaluated (hereafter designated as HRR).

The first four books of the New Testament repeat each other almost word for word with some exceptions and it is written to form another new religion based on the premise that Christ was God-like and he provides eternal bliss in heaven. It's based on miracles much more than the Old Testament. My impression was that the new testament was intended to dazzle and amaze people with more wondrous miracles them the Old Testament to attract as many adherents as possible. Some of it repeats the old testament, as this scholar points out.

The 2,000 pigs are a metaphor for the Roman 10th Fretensis Legion that was in the area of Syria and Galilee during Jesus' lifetime. Its battle flags carried the image of a wild boar (or pig) as its mascot. So when Jesus drives the "legion" from the demoniac, he is referring to a Roman legion of 2,000 troops that have a wild boar as their mascot image. So basically, Carrier hasn't done his homework on this. Metaphors can be used to disguise historical events, especially among populations occupied by foreign powers.

John 1 3:2 "Beloved, now are we the sons of God..." John 1 3:21 "Beloved, if our heart condemn us not..." Repeated again in John 3
Lazarus, Hebrew Eleazar, (“God Has Helped”). In the OT Eleazar helps with the return to the temple after Babylon. John is written after the fall of the temple and the return to the "new Israel." The resurrection narrative thus symbolizes the new Israel and the death the old Israel.

      >"Religion is simply a myth" -- You can't prove that. In the case of Christianity, we find that the Bible has details that only some at that time would know (vs. the hundreds of years later when they say the books were written).
They claim to be smarter than the ignorant goat-herders who wrote the Bible (none of the writers of the Bible were only goat-herders so they are wrong on that claim) and we certainly have more knowledge today than they did way back then.

The Bible has stories about a talking snake (Genesis 3:4-5); a tree bearing fruit which, when eaten, gives knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17; 3:5-7); another tree whose fruit bestows immortality (Genesis 3:22); a voice coming from a burning bush (Exodus 3:4); a talking donkey (Numbers 22:28); rods turning into serpents (Exodus 7:10-12); water changing into blood (Exodus 7:19-22); water coming from a rock (Numbers 20:11); a dead man reviving when his corpse touched the bones of a prophet (II Kings 13:21); and other people rising from the dead (e.g., I Kings 17:21-22; II Kings 4:32-35; Acts 9:37-40).
There are also accounts of the sun standing still (Joshua 10:13); the parting of a sea (Exodus 14:21-22); iron floating (II Kings 6:5-6); the sun’s shadow going back ten degrees (II Kings 20:9-11); a witch bringing the ghost of Samuel back from the dead (I Samuel 28:3-15); disembodied fingers writing on a wall (Daniel 5:5); a man living for three days and nights in the belly of a fish (Jonah 1:17); people walking on water (Matthew 14:26-29); a virgin impregnated by God (Matthew 1:20); a pool of water that can cure ailments of those who dip in it (John 5:2-4); and angels and demons influencing earthly affairs (e.g., Acts 5:19; Luke 11:24-26). ????????

"A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD." (Deut 23:2). Then he was killed, but later his rotting corpse magically returned from the dead and levitated bodily into outer space. Wow! That's a great story!
