This is a strategic question for politicians and Military Intelligence to answer. The SANDF should focus on the protection of the country's sovereignty. In particular, border control and maritime resources are critical. South Africa must not become the nasty aggressor in Africa. A smaller SANDF that is properly equipped with modern technological weapons and highly trained and professional personnel is better than an enormous force with outdated weapons and untrained and useless personnel. Does it make sense to have 25 Gripens in stock, but only two are serviceable? Defense Forces nowadays rely on drones and missile systems operated by competent personnel. Ramaphosa prefers a large army that he can deploy during unrests. Its a pity that the SANDF's future is not part of the public political debate. A 'fit for purpose' SA Protection Force with competent land, air and maritime wings is the way to go.

How can one say SA has a power full military. It is so sad that our military has deteriorated so badly. How can one respect it.
U must be joking 😃. I've been there, done that and seen the movie...They can't even help themselves out of serious situations in the jungles of Africa. Namely the DRC...they often come home in body bags...There is no monies for repairs or maintenance of any kind for the Air force, Navy or the Ragbag army....give us break.
I love this optimistic view, but in reality the SANDF is not as mighty as it ought to be. Its major weakness lies in the quality of the personnel... There are major issues there.
Our Military is just trying its best, despite the Massive Budget cuts by the ANC government. Leaders have been warning about the decline for years. We're just lucky we're in a very peaceful part of the world, (although Mozambique is getting out of hand). We're in trouble and I do not think we're the best in Africa anymore.
Dont get me started on the air force from the 26 griphens less than 50% are operational and about 1/3 of that is combat ready as for rotar wings more than 80% are civil craft that are unarmored and if they are lucky are equiped with a lmg for protection
This didn't age well. The ineptitude of the South African government directly led to the deaths of 14 SANDF soldiers in the DRC. The lack of proper funding, lack of support and lack of modern combat systems are biting us in the ass, and the weak-minded, piss poor thinking ANC is to blame for this.
Its so funny seeing people who don't even know how to hold a gun talking about the military . SADF now is a joke. If you look at the condition of most of the army bases it is shocking. You can walk right into the bases over a weekend and nobody will even bother to stop you. You got cows grazing on mortar testing ranches as all the fences have been stolen years ago. Then we don´t even have to talk about the state of the navy as they have only one corvette hopefully now that is still seaworthy. Twenty years ago they did have maintenance crews that maintained everything, but now they have first have to budget and when they have the money appoint a contractor for the job.
The country has the weapons but they have not got the experience their soldiers are not trained properly . I was in the no 1 parachute regiment Tempe Bloemfontein i went there a few Months ago i was shocked at the state of the camp long grass dirty barracks total disgrace. When i was at Tempe in the sixties we learned to keep our camp clean and tidy . The monkey box was falling apart. I was totally DIsgusted sis NO DISIPLIN.😮
Interesting to see this, I respect each soldier serving. However, as with SAPS the corruption in higher ranks leaves the ground forces without the necessary tools to do their best. I've worked on quite a few military bases and some of the vehicles aren't in operation due to the lack of funds to repair.

Also saps members who could not catch a criminal unless he is attached to their kfc takeaway....What ever happened to the physical training aspect of law inforcement in general????Seen personally service firearms lost in public toilets in the mall....Traffic officers that can barely fit in the drivers seat.Honestly its F#$%ing shamefull. My family served in the military back to the anglo boer war and this in my opinion is not acceptable. And to brag about your competence is even worse.....
By the sound òf your voice you are clearly an American and you have nò idea whats going on mate
May be down to no 35 on the African continent.
Joke of the year😂 It’s impossible as long as the anc is still in charge as long as Cyril and his big forehead
Dream on.. hahaha
Brother you forgot to tell about Special force, the unit has a more advanced military training.
Served in the saaf in the good old days when we were strong and powerful. We had operational rooivalks we had mirages and c130 and 160's pumas and alouettes i believe none of the saab are operational and tgere isnt much left that flies
but lost to Angola humble yourself the USA has the best army in the world but still lost to Afghans wearing flip flops
I'm watching this in south Africa
1 April 25, is not now. DRC 13 soldiers killed.
I have great integrity. The problem with the SA military is that nothing works. Maybe 1 fighter works, our naval ships and other equipment does not work properly, most are out of service.
How can one say SA has a power full military.
It is so sad that our military has deteriorated so badly.
How can one respect it.
We don't need it
Truelly speaking,we were ranking no:05 on world 🌎 Military and in 🌍 Africa no:01 but due to Political Changes we rank 33 and 03 in Africa 🌍
lol number 5 in the world where was USA, Germany , UK, China , Russia , wow the delusion is real You guys were mediocre at best lost every battle
SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 ❤
Some of us are really not informed. We think we know or maybe misinformed
You did,nt do your homework,bud.😂
*did not
We have just witnessed another Bangui in Congo, our politicians have made us an embarrassment
alright bruv as a person who knows Afrikaans, you've got your pronunciations totally wrong with almost every vehicle.
I see MY BROTHER AND SISTERS IN RUSSIA 🇷🇺...im here...😢😢😢😢😢
U must be joking 😃. I've been there, done that and seen the movie...They can't even help themselves out of serious situations in the jungles of Africa. Namely the DRC...they often come home in body bags...There is no monies for repairs or maintenance of any kind for the Air force, Navy or the Ragbag army....give us break.
Hulle steel voertuie Se battery...
Where are the air strike missiles?
Do we have iron dome ?😂😂
We're the joke.😅
Old Defense Force yes, but not the new force.
That one relied on conscripts
I love this optimistic view, but in reality the SANDF is not as mighty as it ought to be. Its major weakness lies in the quality of the personnel... There are major issues there.
Our Military is just trying its best, despite the Massive Budget cuts by the ANC government. Leaders have been warning about the decline for years. We're just lucky we're in a very peaceful part of the world, (although Mozambique is getting out of hand). We're in trouble and I do not think we're the best in Africa anymore.
April Fool....yes before 1994 it was the best army in Africa without any fear or favour
Thanks for my days humor.
SA military strength? What a joke
An eagle doesn't soil its own nest, where is your integrity?
U are a joke thinking your funny comment is relevant..
We will over come any time but it's the politicians that can't get it right and the class room genrals
Nice Video
You don't know wat you are talking about, No military left,
Canon fodder, plenty, current! once was, not only in africa but world!
We are the best i don't know about those who are not proud of their country
That is South Africa for ya.
Most people think its easy running a military but its not America has the worlds best military but LOST in Afghanistan to guys with old soviet AK47 and flip flops . All the Apartheid sympathizers need to get REAL and come back to earth .The Apartheid regime could fund their army because they had to only take care of Whyte SAns , leaving them with a huge surplus to fund the military .If the ANC only had to take care of black SAns who are 37% of the population we would not be having this conversation and those that want to blame Corruption SA collects R2.2 trillion in taxes and only loses R3,9billion to corruption which is a drop in the ocean , im not supporting corruption but lets be REAL corruption happens everywhere in fact during 911 in America $1 Trillion disappeared without a trace , South Korea has had so many corruption scandals, Europe recently had the Qatargate scandal WAKE UP SA IS NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK
😂😂😂 I must first laugh at you ‼️I was in the SA Commando System , and the SA Government took it away from the people of SA , today there is more crime in SA , more farm killings , why do you ask ? The SA Goverment don't think before they act , today the safety and security in SA is dead , BRING THE COMMANDOS AND THE OU MANNE BACK ‼️🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Now i see why a lot of people in comment are not happy with their military! But at the end of the day Its the same people in Military who serve their country.
They can't even drain like Lesotho army
SANDF has all the equipment but they don’t upgrade or maintain these equipment
"Joke of the year 2025 I went to Capetown to see the sea'" so when I got the o find the sea is gone
Always laugh hearing the incorrect pronunciations of the vehicles😂
I’m glad to make you laugh:)
the rooikat means redcat for my english
You must be joking they can't fight their way out of a box
Not even in the African Top 5
What's he on about... We're weak af...
Strongest military in Africa.Wow what a joke, look at our boarder,a huge mess .
All they need is budget and they must stop cutting defense budget ams recruit more young people
Military and government security forces destroyed by Anc mafia organisation 😢😢😢😢
As a South African: BWAHAHAHAHAHA
33rd my least be there
Die rooikat was nog nooit nie ge_upgrade nie hoekom nie,......tech...olifanttank....nog nooit nie..teck...😂😂😂😢😢😢
Where is this military...never seen this
U didn't see capabilities of military Ethiopia and Ethiopia this joke ND weakest military
the video made me lag as a South African and EX SANDF 2008 2010 i can tell you are Army,Air force And Navy has gone to shit,
Interesting to see this, I respect each soldier serving. However, as with SAPS the corruption in higher ranks leaves the ground forces without the necessary tools to do their best. I've worked on quite a few military bases and some of the vehicles aren't in operation due to the lack of funds to repair.
SANDF used to be one of the most feared in the world before ANC
SADF
U mean during apartheid era. So who were they fighting,? And by the way there was no SANDF during that time.. so shut up
They dont even have batteries for the broken down vehicles You dont know what you are talking about All mainline bs...
Misinformed.
Hoeveel is in werkende kondiesies , ek Sal jou se ( daar is net een frikert wat tans werk die res is buite werking want die regeering het AL die geld gesteel ,) ek weet want ek is in die nave
