  • Not all rest stops are created equal. I think rest stops throughout Florida and along the Eastern States are vastly superior to those in the Midwest.

I sleep at rest areas. Good to put that info out there about Texas and Kansas. Texas doesn't even have a hole in the ground most places. I don't know how it is now but Alabama had attendants at their rest stops. I felt safe and they were nice rest stops. I remember traveling in the 50's with my parents. A rest stop was a pull off with a picnic table and a trash barrel.

Rural Kansas and West Texas are unpopulated no taxes no money to spend and THAT'S GOOD, NOT BAD. IMO

Utah is also the same. Just a hole in the ground.

Online it states that Texas' 76 rest areas feature restrooms open 24 hours daily and have attendants on duty 24 hours a day. New air- conditioned and heated restrooms and an assisted - use restroom are being constructed.

Rest areas on interstate highways would be funded by the federal government, right? And the poor farmers in the area that raise our food likely hope that overnighters continue on their way, rested. Seriously, my Auntie Sue and Uncle Herm raised cattle and got by with a garden he tended, as development approached which raised his taxes every year. But they loved that farm.

Bruh... you're bizzarre. Unless someone plumbs an exhaust pipe into the window of your vehicle, CO is NOT a problem. And, acting like a Florida rest stop isskin to landing on the moon is also bizzarre. I've slept in MANY a Florida rest stop without any issues whatsoever. If you look/act/walk/talk like a victim, you'll become one.

Consider yourself fortunate. Ive been parked before and sleeping when my carbon monoxide detector went off due to a car parked next to me running their engine. Florida rest stops have had numerous deaths. Just Google it. Carbon monoxide poisoning deaths in cars are also numerous.

Google "found dead in a car from carbon monoxide" for specific cases.

@@LivingInAVan "...In a typical year, nearly 400 Americans die from carbon monoxide poisoning, usually in their own home or car. Many of those deaths happen during the winter months, when people are heating their homes and reducing the amount of outside ventilation. If you get stuck in deep snow by the side of the road and decide to stay in your car and keep warm with your engine running, be sure to clear snow away from your exhaust pipe. A blocked exhaust pipe can cause CO to back up into your passenger area." So, as of 2023, the United States has 243.4 million licensed drivers, which is 89% of the US adult population, and only

@@LivingInAVan Google cited a total of 14 individuals out of a population of 332 million people in the USA. If you think that's statistically significant, you either failed undergrad stats in college, got high during every class, or majored in Basketweaving instead. Then again, after looking closer at your juvenile responses, it appears the best you might have done was a GED.
