      How many times do you deliberately watch anything with the title, Maori or treaty in it so you can feel a sense of anger, frustration and emotion toward an entire group of people that you don't interact with? You people keep talking about speaking out and speaking up but it's always about Maori. Our language, our children, our culture, land, our politicians, our business, our education system. Try to put yourself in a position where the majority constantly want you to give up your everything, put it away in a closet and never acknowledge you are anything more than a kiwi with no history, language or culture before colonisation. Astounding you can't inherently see how racist it is. I say this to all the racist, just watch rabbit proof fence then get back to me. I'll wait.

    Yep - conflict arises when people think they are special and look down on others - white or black, (race, religion, gender etc). There is a lot to admire about Maori culture and history but the fact is they wiped out species (ie moa etc), wiped out other people (Moriori), lorded over the majority in a feudalistic way and with slave, and fought and ate and oppressed each other just like the rest of us though-out human history. There was also very good reason that so many adopted Christianity over the oppressive outright evil beliefs they had beforehand. So lets cut the crap. We are all tangata whenua and kaitiake - or none of us are! I support what David Seymour says and I support Michael Laws views here - because they are speaking the TRUTH!.

This was because Māori had also lived in isolation in New Zealand. Most of what else is known about the Moriori, their culture and their language, is a matter of speculation. This is because so much evidence has been lost. After the 1835 genocidal Māori invasion, all Moriori were either killed, enslaved or they succumbed to the deadly effects of newly introduced foreign diseases. The language and culture of those Moriori that did survive became intermingled with the Māori language and society before records were made by Europeans. To not understand that that isn't any different now try watching while an adult Maori walk into ANY jewellers shop around the country. The only difference is that as a Maori I didn't grow up seeing any difference up North either, my best friend was and still is white with blue eyes - the difference in how I see the world and more importantly how the world sees me happened when I moved to Auckland for my career. I didn't make the differences but I can't change my skin colour nor my culture and I don't think I should have to. 100 % right Michael, you know yesterday I attended a citizen ceremony in Nelson fronted by Nick Smith and Mel Courtney, to members of the NCC, and all through the ceremony language I don’t recall them ever referring to New Zealand has New Zealand it was predominantly referred to Aotearoa so way are they getting NZ citizenship maybe one day soon it will be called Aotearoa citizenship instead. The whole ceremony was skewed in my opinion more towards Māori values than European values so yes Michael there are the power’s to be definitely trying to undermine the New Zealand that we all use to know.😢

    Completely agree, the coming of the modern world was inevitable. They should be extremely grateful it was the British. Others were much harsher. It should be noted the British were keen to avoid previous mistakes. The treaty was an attempt to avoid that. Finally, the colonizers have created one of the best and most caring societies in the world where all people have access to healthcare, education and social support. Young Maori need to be taught to value and embrace the opportunities available to them. Unfortunately, Dame Ann Salmon and Co would have them wallowing in grievance.

      "They" that is the exact problem. You seperate us from yourselves by calling us they - no we, no us, you and them. Then you further it by telling us we should be grateful to have been murdered in our thousands because the British bought us alcohol...The colonizers did not create this society - WE all did. if this society was truly the "best and most caring" then why are you dividing us in to groups of Maori and non Maori - why do you not understand the basic medical facts that we are genetically different - we don't have a problem with white people getting better skin cancer treatments than we do so why do you have to begrudge Maori the right to have their genetic medical needs attended to in a way that is different from yours? Your narrowmindedness is the reason Young Maori are being taught to value and embrace the opportunities available to them and why they are refusing to accept that their only options are warehouse picker & potato planter

Maori just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps; its not the 1800s anymore, this is a white mans society and we should treat everyone equally, like white people are known to do. My white great grandad came here from the UK, starting working at our family business at 14, became the business owner at 18 and had 3 houses by 25. I have also worked hard in this business and am now the business owner, inheriting and renting out my dad's apartment block in Auckland and am now a multi-millionaire. All Maori do is complain right, Michael Laws? They should just do what my grandad did and get successful by working harder. It's simple, yet they seem to think they can't because they're Maori. Like come on guys, its not that hard, I inherited my first houses when I was 24, you can too, just work harder and stop complaining that society is rigged for us white folks.

      Of course the English wanted to quick smart raise the flag on New Zealand soil. There were other countries heading our way Eg. Spain who would have had they no first. Besides easying Maori warfare the colonials knew the value of land and we gobbling it up as fast as a maori would grab a blanket or musket or two in ignorance.
      Treaty was partly to save guard the continual landgrab going on by British land grabbers, known as landsharks.

    Maoris are not special, read the book "the Great Divide" . In the early 1800's Maoris still practised cannibalism and had already eaten all the Moas. Back then French were about to take over NZ so Maoris asked the British govt to establish the Treaty, one of equal partnership so both could live in NZ.... that's why both parties signed, both got something.
    Google "New Zealand wikipedia" , if you can't find the book.

    • @2wahineandadog
      @2wahineandadog 11 дней назад

      That is the stupidest thing I read so far and this section is full of stupid things. The French were never "about to take over NZ". The Great Divide was written by a born again Christian who also thinks that climate change is unsubstantiated. Why would anyone value a person who can't even decide what he believes in. Also he published the book himself because no reputable publisher would. Of all the books negative or positive this is your example one that has been repeatedly disproven. Reading is good - basing your entire opinion on one book is less so

      Don't think the French were about to colonise NZ, but Maori were well aware of what their Tahitian and New Caledonian cousins were suffering under the French. The British were perceived as a much better option.

      Not all claims have been settled nor have all apologies been offered. Ngapuhi nui tonu have not yet had their claim settled, yes it was initially started in 1984 but it still hasn't been settled - feel free to hurry it along as we would like it to be sometime in my fathers lifetime. You want students to be exposed to foreign languages without knowing their own and you think that Maoridom is the problem? We clearly aren't "one people" because you consider yourself better than Maori - how is that good for the country?
