I’m Māori and I hate it. We are being manipulated by these Marxist as victims and paraded out when the majority of Maori don’t care. They are causing division and it’s embarrassing
I grew up with plenty of Maori friends, not one of them needed the victim card. If we only embraced each other (kiwis) and respected each cultural background and religion.
I’m a young maori male working hard and I’m disgusted by the decisive actions of the maori party. I’m proud of my culture and heritage but disgusted how it’s been radicalised to whip up hysteria. In some ways I view maori party radicalisation similar to ISIS
We have reached this sad state of social division thanks entirely to Adern and her fellow activists (Willie Jackson, Mahuta. Kiri Allen etc) introducing activist policies that were never disclosed to voters prior to the election and never endorsed by voters. The people Labour subsequently appointed to key positions in Wellington, including the Waitangi Tribunal, will no doubt continue to sow social division....
ruclips.net/video/V0meQxgIHu8/видео.html . Actual racial division. Other way around. Turns out it was just a sad old fella's dream. Thank God we can finally be civil.
Rubbish Maori have been aasserting their rights to their language and culture peacefully since the 60's certainly since the early 70's when the Kohanga movement started - pretty sure Ardern wasn't even alive then so stop with your rubbish. The only difference now is that we are more vocal than then, it has taken 50yrs for us to get to this point and unfortunately for you it is not due to a political party but more a social understanding which is only strengthening and growing. It's your choice whether you want to have a truly united NZ where we accept all cultures or not
Well said. I wonder why the hell I returned to NZ, if I had my time again I would leave for good. This country is a mess and our politicians don't have the balls to fix it.
Most Maori people I have met over the years just want equality and a good life. The needy ones despise work and that goes for all ethnicities. Just after handouts. The elite are greedy and have no intention of sharing with normal everyday Maori.
@mikimoto99 thanks again for your response even if you didn't answer the question. I was asking for your opinion specifically. I've heard many commentators talk about Māori elites over the years, so I'm just trying to understand who these people are from those who talk about them. I've been told I'm an elite Māori, but I don't think you're necessarily talking about me here.
@@Xashe You are best to ask similar people that have told me over conversation, everyday, working, Maori people that live a normal life and do an honest days work. There are many, take your pick. Elites around the world do little but clip the ticket of the average working person, then try to tell us they know whats best for us. This is obviously not just a Maori thing. Happens in all cultures, check out the WEF for eg.
@mikimoto99 why don't you want to name anyone in particular? Like surely there's at least one you can name? I tried looking up elite Māori and besides the Hori from Ōtaki I found a piece about Winston Peter's calling Te Pāti Māori elite Māori. Do you think any of these count as elite Māori? Winston Peters, Rawiri Waititi? Or maybe John Tamihere? I've named three for you now, which ones do you consider elite Māori, and why?
It’s no wonder so many good qualified people are moving overseas, most people have had a guts full of the government not sorting it out. Seymour is the only one with any balls.
Tried to destroy Maori culture in the past but we fought hard to keep it alive now you white people are scared lol wake up you tried to force Maori to be white but no
You don't even have the courage to say that out loud to your neighbour. Why not lead the way by saying your comments directly to John, Debbie, Tariana, Rawiri, Peeni, Dale.... Your problem is that more people do now have the courage to speak out what they think, and those people are Maori and true Kiwi's who don't want the division your fear is engendering
How many times do you deliberately watch anything with the title, Maori or treaty in it so you can feel a sense of anger, frustration and emotion toward an entire group of people that you don't interact with? You people keep talking about speaking out and speaking up but it's always about Maori. Our language, our children, our culture, land, our politicians, our business, our education system. Try to put yourself in a position where the majority constantly want you to give up your everything, put it away in a closet and never acknowledge you are anything more than a kiwi with no history, language or culture before colonisation. Astounding you can't inherently see how racist it is. I say this to all the racist, just watch rabbit proof fence then get back to me. I'll wait.
@@2wahineandadog Funny how you judge me without knowing anything about me. I do talk to people I know about what I think. But I don’t talk about things or people I don’t even know about.
What I don't understand is why Maori are called "indeginous" to New Zealand. As per their own understanding, they arrived in NZ on boats after having left their own countries/islands. After arriving in NZ they colonised the placxe. How is that different from Capain Cook having arrived here colonising the place he found?
Because we had already settled the land, we were the first people here. Moriori came over on the same waka and became their own distinct people around the 1500s when they moved to the Chatham islands, where they still are to this day (because I know some munter will bring it up). Your argument is the same as if I went to England today, colonised it, and said whats the difference, the Romans and Celts sailed there too?
Admittedly long time ago but isn’t the belief of being a superior race of people a common held belief of European people when they first arrived in NZ and all the other places around the world.. and because of that there were dire consequences for indigenous people everywhere …their views recorded in studies and journals ..not alll without admiration but still well held beliefs of being better .
I'm sick of listening to them blame colonizers for their sh!tty miserable lives..those colonizers are long gone so maori have had decades to better themselves & break cycles
If Dame Anne Salmon took the time to step outside her highly politicised, academic bubble she would encounter the reality that it is her views which are inherently racist because they are based on the concept of ethnic-supremacy.
I've just finished reading the book 'The Musket Wars,' by Ron Crosby. A fascinating expose of what life was 'really' like for the average Maori in the half-century leading up to the signing of the Treaty: Raiding Maori war parties, motivated by revenge (utu), cannibalism, the taking of slaves, and the forced displacement of people from their lands - Not really the pre-European paradise some would have us believe!
Lol pakeha are free to their own interpretations of reo however I would consider multiple perspectives as someone who has maori, english, irish, french, german, welsh, samoan, fijian, and portugese blood i would like to emphasis the message of our late Kīngi Tuiheitia which is Te Kotahitanga (Unity)
@@HamueraWilliams Well, that unity among Maori is a major improvement of pre 1840 infighting. However, unity would be better among all NZ'ers, which the racist pro-Maori excesses will not provide! The new form of racism will only delude, hold back, and create division.
@@HamueraWilliamsIam a maori and it always hurts when i see all these racists in comment sections and even the platform with there narrow views. The way Michael talks is as if Maori made all this crap up.
Yep - conflict arises when people think they are special and look down on others - white or black, (race, religion, gender etc). There is a lot to admire about Maori culture and history but the fact is they wiped out species (ie moa etc), wiped out other people (Moriori), lorded over the majority in a feudalistic way and with slave, and fought and ate and oppressed each other just like the rest of us though-out human history. There was also very good reason that so many adopted Christianity over the oppressive outright evil beliefs they had beforehand. So lets cut the crap. We are all tangata whenua and kaitiake - or none of us are! I support what David Seymour says and I support Michael Laws views here - because they are speaking the TRUTH!.

@@mooselee902And what also is your point???? The Moriori were hunter-gatherers who lived on the Chatham Islands in isolation from the outside world until the arrival of HMS Chatham in 1791. They came to the Chathams from mainland New Zealand, which means they were descendants from the Polynesian settlers who had initially settled in New Zealand - the same Polynesians from which Māori had also descended. This was because Māori had also lived in isolation in New Zealand. Most of what else is known about the Moriori, their culture and their language, is a matter of speculation. This is because so much evidence has been lost. After the 1835 genocidal Māori invasion, all Moriori were either killed, enslaved or they succumbed to the deadly effects of newly introduced foreign diseases. The language and culture of those Moriori that did survive became intermingled with the Māori language and society before records were made by Europeans. South African here. I was scrolling through to find some New Zealand insights into the weekend's rugby. Came across this rsther interesting opinion piece. Now I might not be an exlert on New Zealand, but we do have a very awkward history when it comes to race and how to luve in changing times. The problem from what I can see is that the government creates a protected class; whether its the Maori, the black people in South Africa, homosexuals, Muslims, whatever. Want to redress the mistakes of the past? Fine. But usually this ends up in nothing more than lip service. We will see here a lot of business and departments proudly proclaiming that they've now got the first woman, homosexual or person of colour into a certain role, while doing absolutely for the wider community. In South Africa for example, we see absolutely shocking service delivery in predominantly black areas - while we have a few of the elite in the highest posts, the wider community suffers. While we are all getting pats on our back for being more inclusive, very little is done to tackle crime, poverty, corruption, alcoholism and drug use. Even worse, because we've got a protected class now, vreating legislation around the challenges that a certain community faces now becomes a racial issue. Yet here we are, repeating the same mistakes tike after time. We have seen this in South Africa play out over the last thirty years, we are seeing it in the US and Britain with their immigration issues and we are seeing it in Australia and New Zealand with their struggling indigenous communities. The government loves to play the "look at me, how virtuous am I" card, but hardly ever spends any time or resources on actually building towards upliftment.
Completely agree, the coming of the modern world was inevitable. They should be extremely grateful it was the British. Others were much harsher. It should be noted the British were keen to avoid previous mistakes. The treaty was an attempt to avoid that. Finally, the colonizers have created one of the best and most caring societies in the world where all people have access to healthcare, education and social support. Young Maori need to be taught to value and embrace the opportunities available to them. Unfortunately, Dame Ann Salmon and Co would have them wallowing in grievance.
"They" that is the exact problem. You seperate us from yourselves by calling us they - no we, no us, you and them. Then you further it by telling us we should be grateful to have been murdered in our thousands because the British bought us alcohol...The colonizers did not create this society - WE all did. if this society was truly the "best and most caring" then why are you dividing us in to groups of Maori and non Maori - why do you not understand the basic medical facts that we are genetically different - we don't have a problem with white people getting better skin cancer treatments than we do so why do you have to begrudge Maori the right to have their genetic medical needs attended to in a way that is different from yours? Your narrowmindedness is the reason Young Maori are being taught to value and embrace the opportunities available to them and why they are refusing to accept that their only options are warehouse picker & potato planter

There are NO indigenous people of NZ. To label themselves alongside aboriginal and inuit is wrong. In my personal experience of Maori having lived here for 18 years, they are the most openly racist people I have ever encountered outside of South Africa. They are also the most wonderful and inviting people I have met. I have found those who represent Maori in the best light possible are not racist, they consider themselves a Kiwi first and Maori is their heritage.
Many Māori believe they get and continue to get a poor deal from the Crown. This leads to a mindset of defensiveness and cynicism around the NZ political, legal and health systems If you live in areas of NZ where there are high numbers of Māori population you find that relations are usually cordial between the communities. Where there are few Māori you will find racist opinions often quite prevalent because they are not formed by personal experience but more by the media they consume. The best record of the colonial impact on Māori is contained in the Waitangi reports. These are public records that are compiled and then debated on by experts, lawyers and historians. Not surprisingly many people who deny that Māori have received poor treatment have never read any of these authoritative tomes. People today prefer simplistic assessments when these issues are actually complex and nuanced in reality.

Maori are one of the few cultures to never discover pottery, the wheel, or writing. they could not boil water either and had lost most of their farming skills, and had killed over many of NZ native species including the Moa. They were colonisers like everyone else here. Time for a great leveling back to a normal multicultural country where no one has extra rights based on race. One NZ, one people who are all the same.

Read a book you racist idiot. Maori have pottery musical instruments in many Museum's around the world. Your right we didn't write in the english language we utilised our own version similar to hieroglyphs - see any Marae or Museum and the history is written on every carving and now adays it is in ta moko on many Maori faces - it is not the Maori's problem that you are too ignorant to learn the language. What a shock NZ schools just after the Native Schools Act saying no full bloodied Maori left, well there you go that couldn't possibly colonial rhetoric it must be fact as you learnt it in school in the 1980's - what school was that KKK Primary School. We are not all the same - as Maori aren't beating you for mispronouncing our language, we also aren't making your schools and medicines illegal - there has never been one people in NZ and we are not nor will we ever be all the same. 100% agree with Michael Laws. Maori just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps; its not the 1800s anymore, this is a white mans society and we should treat everyone equally, like white people are known to do. My white great grandad came here from the UK, starting working at our family business at 14, became the business owner at 18 and had 3 houses by 25. I have also worked hard in this business and am now the business owner, inheriting and renting out my dad's apartment block in Auckland and am now a multi-millionaire. All Maori do is complain right, Michael Laws? They should just do what my grandad did and get successful by working harder. It's simple, yet they seem to think they can't because they're Maori. Like come on guys, its not that hard, I inherited my first houses when I was 24, you can too, just work harder and stop complaining that society is rigged for us white folks.

Sorry but NZ has to celebrate technology and business successes in the media if we want to stand tall on the international stage = ie business success to improve the country / raise salaries / generate more tax. Nervous to fly home to get pounded by Maori this and that.
Then you should stay there. If your main concern is for your field of employment and how you can make it more profitable for yourself then you should focus on that. But if you want the entire country to back you and what you want perhaps you should consider that some parts of the country have priorities different to your own irrespective of culture and that they have the right to be heard also.

@@MartinCraig-zt2sv yes. A honest truthful opinion based on FACTS
Before we go about calling Michael racist and divisive, there are a number of books that back him up. Have a look at: The Maori - The history and Legacy of New Zealand's Indigenous people, Moriori, - A people rediscovered, The Forgotten Wars - why the musket wars matter today. There is a lot of researched written information out there if one is willing to seek balance...
Everybody in NZ want to be treated as special. Like small town tribalism- it’s not just Māori.
I am Pakeha married to a Maori. I used to have respect for the leaders of the Maori Party. But not the clowns who are running it now. I think they are one of the reasons, there was such a swing towards National. I am also a supporter of New Zealand First, who often put the entitled maori's in there place.
I agree with you ML and I am 1 eight Maori, the rest English, Scottish and Irish.
I've learnt everything through my British learnings.
One NZ, One rule for all.
NZ run by a elected Gvt and elected local bodies.
Just ignore them, totally.
Wot ! And ignore all the money we are giving them
As you are to be ignored. Come onboard or be left behind
Feel free to start right now by not making comments about them behind their backs
@@davidthomson692 You took land and resources then paid pittance for it.
And still Māori give you money. But not for long, we have a new Queen and all you have is Luxon. Best of luck.
My thoughts are it takes a brave man to speak the truth on ANY subject these days.
I'm NZ'er on business in Germany today. I look at MSM and its JUST Maori Maori Maori as if nothing else is important in NZ. Sorry but NZ has to celebrate technology and business successes in the media if we want to stand tall on the international stage = ie business success to improve the country / raise salaries / generate more tax. Nervous to fly home to get pounded by Maori this and that.
@seddy96 stay in Germany, this aint your home hahahaha
Then you should stay there. If your main concern is for your field of employment and how you can make it more profitable for yourself then you should focus on that. But if you want the entire country to back you and what you want perhaps you should consider that some parts of the country have priorities different to your own irrespective of culture and that they have the right to be heard also. Maori are not responsible for what MSM report - but it might be an idea to listen with a more open mind and recognise exactly how the world is seeing the divisions in NZ because I personally think we ALL could benefit from some changes
@@2wahineandadog I am well travelled in my business and spend a lot of time in different cultures around the world. I specialize in SE Asian countries and EU languages.I know very little Te Reo as there are no words for my engineering field and its only used in NZ. Also my Bhasa and French means I am worth more to NZ than being a weak Te Reo speaker. I generate a lot of tax revenue for NZ - that's my strength. Others in NZ are more than happy to be users of tax income. I would love to see NZ standard of education go right up so we can compete on the international market and make the country wealthier. I dream of MSM leading about improvements in maths and entrepreneurship. But that means more $ in the country to pay for schools , reduce poverty etc and I am working hard for the country I love to pull that money in
Yupp it’s embarrassing
@@seddy69I doubt you will ever see the standard of education go up! Having worked in this field most of my career NZ do not recognise any qualifications gained outside of NZ!! It’s pretty shocking how closed minded this country is..!
Yes so in tune with nature that they felt inclined to eat it to extinction
Oh at least be original with your racist diatribe. Lots of things go extinct for a variety of reasons, it happens every day. Believe it or not white people did this also as they were hungry too - you insist on judging a race on today's standards whilst bringing up historic events. Educate yourself
What did they eat to extinction? Be specific
@@seanodwyer4322 No, Maori bought over the kuri and it wasn't pink
We ran out of chocolate so.....
What drivel
Well said..
Inherent problems within Maori culture and instilling a wrong historical wrong doing into youth so that nothing is their own fault is making it worse.
They need look inwards at problems within Maori not blame other kiwis.
Inherent problems within a small portion of white New Zealanders - you need to look inward and stop blaming Maori's for all your issues in your life
@2wahineandadog
Happy with my life....
Fact 51% prisons filled with an ethnicity of only 16% population is not fault of other kiwis.
Other statistics like child abuse, drugs, gangs and all other social issues is never gonna improve until people like you stop blaming others.
Plenty of other immigrants come here from colonised countries and do very well..
Maori culture of blaming pakeha is badly flawed.
@@2wahineandadog Where have you been bro, Maori are consistently blaming the white man for their problems, don't try to turn it around. It's called the grievance culture and victimhood, all to suck more money out from the trough.
@@bigboyair6824 well said
Very true, well said Michael 👍
preach brother we Maori need to wake up. new Zealand is for all who legally abide here. we weren't the first people here. these think tank members need to hoop out of the tank. what they sow is discord and division. look into who funds them and you will have an answer
Excellent article
Spot on….spot on.
Well said, since it is simple truth will probably get attacked rather than repeated frequently as it actually deserves.
