That's awesome I can't believe it took me so long to find out about the VMAX guess I've been to focused on the newer fuel injected superbikes. This Vmax was the best purchase I've ever made.
In 1987 Yamaha did not produce any VMax, they sold 1985, 1986 and 1988 until 2007, not 1987, too much inventory of previous years. Probably you had an '86 or '88 great bike anyway.
ohh yes, a week ago I bought a year 2000 with only 49,000 km, I have been riding a motorcycle since I was 13 years old and I am 57 and believe me, absolutely nothing is like this, the torque of this beast is brutal and when the Vboost opens, believe me, you have to hold on. . Congratulations on your purchase, greetings from South America.

One thing to remember. Baby it in corners..... BUT... once you get it in a straight line. Open her up!!!!! I remember when I got my 97 brand new.... It was like the next year me, a 88 Suzuki GXR-1100 and a Ninja 900 were going around a traffic circle onto a straightaway (turnpike). The 1000 was leaned over and gone. But the 900 was thinking he was going to leave me also. NOPE. After I straightened her out. I reeled her in and passed as if it was sitting still. BEST memory of my life.
That is a First Generation. The Legend. 85 to 2007. No Vmax till 2009. 2nd gen came out in 2009. I have a 2018. Best bike I have ever had. 1700 cc bone stock, 200 hp at the motor. Tons of torque from 100 rpm till 9500 rpm. Super fast. 55k miles now. 13 sets of tires later.
There was a guy in my town who had an accident. I ran over to him to see if everything was alright. He was FREAKING the hell out begging me not to call for help. I was suspicious then he said "If you don't call for help I'll give you this bike." I just decided not to say anything and he came back with the title for the bike! Its a 92 Yamaha VMAX and I decided to look up what kind of bike it is here on RUclips and now it makes me want to ride this beast!

Aww Shit, Vmax 1200! Son, that was a hell of a bike back in the day and a terror on the street. Quite a number of riders were hurt riding that horse. There was a good aftermarket as well, everything from chain drive conversion to belt drive blower kits. Perhaps you should hang on to that one. The original Vmax may not be as light on the ground as a Z1 900/Kz1000 or a GS 1100/1150, but they are not exactly plentiful either. Good find!
Right on, not bad to have a muscle cruiser to go out for some fun classic rides. My first bike was 85 Burgundy style color Honda Night Hawk 650 and I miss that old classic cruiser. Enjoy 👍
