- I have many hobbies, i.e. metal detecting, mudlarking, and making stuff from the things I find, like coin rings. But would you dare destroy pure .999 fine silver to craft hand made silver jewellery? In this video I melt silver at home in my crucible and make it into a signet ring with a George V shilling centre punch which was left over from a coin ring. I ordered a several ounces of silver bullion from the royal mint, and when it arrived, I DESTROYED IT.

That really turned out really well! Lovely ring 💍
Love the ring Stephen. You put alot of effort into it.
Thanks Adam
3k worth of silver would be about 5 kilos of silver, I don't think there is any jewellery that weighs 5 kilos
Very nice. Keep up the good work.
Wonderful result. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!

Hope those silver rounds weighed 31grams and not 28grams! Should be Troy ounces not cooking ounces. 😂

Happy New Year Mr Hat :)
Back at you IH
I love watching you make your rings. Mind if I ask how you got into silver smithing? I personally took a class in jewelry making in college. Had a lot of enjoyment out of it. Would like to hear your story. And if you have already told it please post a link.
Thanks Stephen
I’m self taught from home Laurel. Only been doing it a couple of years.
Well, look at you. That’s amazing. You are straight up a joy to watch. I am going to shop your Etsy store. Hold on to that ring if you will and I will treat myself to a coin ring. This way I can get the postage taken care of as well.
Wow that so cool what was the final weight ?
Almost 15 grams mate
It's actually illegal to melt those silver coins because its illegal to destroy or deface money and I'm sure those coins are classed as legal tender also nobody would ever use them as money lol nice video tho
Wrong. It’s bullion James.
@@TheManWithTheHat ahh my bad I thought it was classed as legal tender
I just looked it up I am correct in what I am saying these coins have a face value of 2 great British Pounds so there for it is legal tender and is illegal to deface or destroy if it didn't have a face value and was a silver bullion round then it would be okay to melt
@@MrJamesstott Sorry my friend but you’re still incorrect.
@@TheManWithTheHat I'm not they have a face value of 2 pounds, which makes them legal tender, look it up or simply look on the coin and you will see it says 2 pounds, either way nice video
2 ads to get in here ....
Hmmm that’s how YT is rocking now.
Stirling effort...yeah I know, dreadful pun...🤣🤣🤣
Haha like it.
Is it not illegal to melt down UK coins
It’s not a coin Dave. And no it’s not.
@@TheManWithTheHat It appears to be those commemorative medallions which are Guaranteed To Increase In Value but don't
@@ericalbany I can increase their value by 300% overnight
