Richard Rohr helped me in my conversion to Catholicism. I was “spiritual but not religious.” He, and the documents of Vatican 2, allowed me in good conscience to convert. Four years later, Traditional Catholic and go to the TLM. I don’t necessarily agree anymore with Rohr but very grateful to him for his role in my conversion.
Isn't it mysteriously awe-inspiring how Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, will use different means & varieties of ways to grace His people? We need to pray for Father Rohr, for his conversion to the truth of Jesus and the Catholic faith.
James 5:20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
The Creator of all things will judge rightly.
I feel the same with Fr. James Martin. Lol. Part of my journey, ironically what he talks about now was very predominant 10 years ago in seminary, just from personal experience. Although, if it is the Holy Spirit who moved us, or else we wouldn't have made it to the TLM. lol.
@apubakeralpuffdaddy392 Father Rohr is a Catholic Priest in good standing for many decades. He recently met with the Pope who instructed him to continue doing what he is doing. You have a story here of a man who renewed his faith in the church thanks to Father Rohr. These squabbles are really very unimportant I think in comparison to a life lived in orthopraxy
Yes the Man is awesome and saved many lives and has an amazing mind and profound spiritual intellect. People like Twent are from their father the Devil sowing seeds of discord in a already divided World. Lay off the Booze/
This sounds like the kind of theological thought my buddies and I did while drunk and high in college. “Yo, what if God is, like, everything and everyone?” “Whoaaa.”
Can you prove otherwise?

I've never liked his writing, but boy oh boy do some people love it! Thanks for your excellent points you make here, Trent Horn.
But he is heavily influenced by Jesuits such as Teilhard de Chardin and his books as often promoted by Jesuits such as james Martin and others I won’t mention

I agree with Trent Horn. I think people in general are trying to make others so called happy like Oprah for instance. He gave her what she wanted to hear it just sounded to me and then sprinkled in a little bit of the truth. I think we do so much to let people feel good by our words that we don’t really tell what needs to be said and that’s a really big issue a problem. I’m reading the Bible and also reading some apologetics also and on top of that I listen to biblical teachings on my phone while at work. I’m not sharing this to boast or brag about any of that but what I am trying to do is to stay in Gods word and on top of that it’s Awesome learning it’s Fun and that’s what a lot of people get lazy about and make excuses about is not picking up the Bible because all in all if you pick it up you definitely won’t lay it down 👍🏼☀️ Godbless
Hi Trent Horn, I attended RCIA and person in charge prescribed books by James Martin and Richard Rohr to be read and studied by attendees. The church was managed by Jesuits. So I withdraw from RCIA. I was horrified by that teachings of James and Richard Rohr to replaced the traditional teachings of Catholicism. I am reading through Catechism of Catholic Church with Father Mike Schmitz.
Stay away from the Jesuits
Good. Please don't give up. In another parish you may find a better RCIA program.
I’m so sorry for your experience. The parish where I went through RCIA was run by holy orthodox Catholics who taught the true teachings of the Church. Keep looking, please. The RCIA experience is well worth it, going through a class with similar folks leads to real fellowship & friendships. God bless you & your journey 🙏❤️
@@TrixRN thank you Theresa. I am looking into two parish little further away from my place and will email them about RCIA program. Hopefully I find good one. I heard about Rohr on Protestant side for he is popular with progressive Christians but his theology is downright heretical.
@@scottschultz2669 Fr. Mike is awesome. Both his Bible in a year & his catechism in a year are outstanding! I actually started discerning the Church when I read the Catechism in 2010. I came into the Church Easter 2014. There are some really good content creators here on RUclips. Just steer clear of those that malign the pope, the bishops, & Vatican II. Catholicism has its malcontents & poor teachers like any religion. Some of my faves are, of course, Trent & Catholic Answers, Pints with Aquinas, Reason & Theology, Jimmy Akin, Augustine Institute, St. Paul Center, so many riches out there… There are some pretty cool niche ones too, Apocrypha Apocalypse for the validity of the Deuterocanon, et al questions & Patristic Pillars for what the Early Church Fathers taught, are a couple of my favorites. Blessings🙏❤️
What Rohr is forgetting when saying Franciscan language is that St. Francis, while seeing God in all of creation, still relied on Scripture and the Church's teaching. St. Francis was a loyal son of the Church and not some hippie who just tiptoed through the tulips.
Yes, the movie 1972 movie “Brother Son, Sister Moon” was the perfect encapsulation of hippie Francis, and arguably that single movie destroyed countless orders of Franciscan friars and sisters.
@@CatholicSamurai that is exactly what I think when I see Franciscans talking about St. Francis like he's a hippie. They've clearly never read the documents and only seen Brother Sun, Sister Moon.
I dislike how everyone only thinks of St Francis like "oh he loved nature and animals and the environment"... And ignores the radical poverty and orthodoxy.
@@kelly4187 i find myself quoting his reprimands to the brothers to my brothers and sisters quite often. It's astounding how they think he could never have been like that until I show them the documents to prove it. They still hold on to fantasy Francis though. Much like they hold on to fantasy Christ also.
There's a difference between seeing the beauty of God reflected in his creation (what St. Francis meant) and the creation actually being a part of God (what Rohr believes).
'If priests sin, all the people are led to sin. Hence every one must render an account of his own sins; but the priests are also responsible for the sins of others.'
St. John Chrysostom
Being a priest is a big responsibility. Why stray from the teachings of the Church at all? There are no do overs. You are playing with souls and your own. Sad.
Thank you for explaining the writings of Fr. Rohr, my past pastor offered a talk from a priest friend who presented some of Fr. Rohr's writings to us several years ago and at the time, I felt it was "out there" and
may be fantastical craziness, so thank you for breaking it down for me. I have since left that parish and glad God led me to an real Catholic parish.

LOL, good one
Do You mean duct tape is like the force it has a light side a dark side & it binds the galaxy together? that theology? By the way here’s a cool fact: Obi-Wan Kenobi from the original trilogy actually became a Catholic.
Thank you for defending the truth against error, regardless of how well-intended that error may be
Father Richard Rohr had a private audience with Pope Francis last summer. This is what the pope said to Father Richard. “I want you to keep doing what you’re doing, keep teaching what you’re teaching.”
Mark 12:31
What’s crazy is Rohr inspired me to convert to the Catholic Church! I don’t even remember why or what I read that inspired me, but I was very deep into new age spirituality and it must have attracted me in that aspect somehow. I’ve since thrown his books away, including universal Christ which I never read, along with my pendulum and tarot cards. I believe frequent reception of the sacraments helped me discern truth.
Bravo!!
And Welcome Home
@Tbone Are you 100% confident of this statement?
The majority of Germanic tribes heard about Christianity through Arian heretical missionaries first in the 4th and 5th centuries. Then, they were corrected by Nicaen missionaries. I have friends who converted to Mormons, then corrected into Protestants.
@@thomasc9036 Hopefully, your friends will take the next step.
My first introduction Fr. Rohr is when I got into a 12 step program. Rohr has not only written a book on 12 step spirituality but references the founders Dr. Bob and Bill W. in his other work. I believe Rohr has an appeal to people who feel alienated by religious legalism which is a lot of people in 12 step programs. In the universal Christ book he makes a lot of references to theologian Teilhard de Chardin and the Eastern fathers. Its also had some funny lines.
"Did the divinty need to wait for Ethnic Orthodox, Roman Catholics, European protestants, and American evangelicals to appear before the divine love could begin? I think not!"
I think his point is that the Son existed from the beginning, and we limit our understanding if we just think of him as Jesus incarnate.
Thanks as always for the warning Trent! Great job defending Our Lord!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was in a Protestant study group, fairly progressive, that was reading Things Hidden, and the number of theological errors drove me crazy, especially because the rest of the people didn’t really seem to think his errors were a big deal, even those who I thought were people of faith. I left the group for that and other reasons.
Except the Bible
@@tomtomtomtomtomson5810 who gave you the right or ability to make the claim there is no such thing as a theological error?
Thanks for doing this episode. Every time Fr. Rohr has been quoted to me in the past, I'm immediately uncomfortable, but up until now, I hadn't been able to find much in the way of people discussing his theology. This is really helpful.
Thanks Trent. This is needed as Fr. Roher’s work is found on the lips of many parishioners who have studied theology. It’s important to hear these arguments and how close he is to real heritical teachings.
"Studied theology"? Obviously not Thomas Aquinas
Tell these parishioners to stick to Aquinas and Scotus
Rohr isn't just close, he's teaching heresy outright. Trent is absolutely right on this.
Please continue debunking Fr. Rohr. I read him years ago (as a protestant) and assumed he represented correct Catholic teaching.
Another good point from you (and to your former self). Even if a priest, he, did not write a book, or did write and the book weren't a widely popular as this, he's still an ordained Catholic priest. If my parish priest had the same 'ideology' as Fr. Rohr, I am afraid most people wouldn't recognize the subtle heresy he promoted. Or they might scratch their brains a bit but probably didn't dare say anything. Sadly, world seems to hear more about Christianity and Catholic Christianity from 'prominent' or vocal figures in Catholic community like him, and form their views on Catholicism based on them.
Pro Tip: if a book reflects correct Catholic teaching, it will have a Nihil Obstat/Imprimatur (basically the Church confirming the book is approved for publication). Fr. Rohr's works do not.
@@vdetommaso Thank you. Unfortunately, almost no protestants are aware of this. All they see is a man with a Catholic title and a Catholic uniform and they assume he has authority, and not entirely unreasonably.
@@victoriathorlacius874 Exactly. Honestly, I , a catholic, did not know that either (about the imprimatur). Now I know and I'm going to look for it on all the books I have or going to buy.
We should all write to Franciscan Media. They're falling from grace. They also promote Fr Dan Horan-🥹
When I was in college seminary in the early 80s, Father Rohr gave the community retreat. He was at the height of his popularity then. Very instrumental in the charismatic movement. He also used to speak (again in the early 80s) at the Youth Conferences in Steubenville. I went twice back then.

why is the Church not burning heretics alive today? This could be so easily sorted out with a few sticks of kindling and a match. Poor old Giordano Bruno was sent to the stake for less than this. I went a few times to a Bible study at a very nearby parish. I didn't care for all of the materials, and (naturally) I noticed one day that our pamphlet was the work of Rohr. I go to a different parish now.
Come on (!) Rohr is exploring the established Catholic doctrine of 'the "hypostatic union": Jesus Christ as both fully God and fully man, both perfectly Divine and perfectly human, with two complete and distinct natures at once. All Rohr is doing (which it's hard to believe you can't see), is using "Jesus" to refer to the human nature . . . and "Christ" to refer to the Divine nature. Sometimes he talks about "Jesus" . . . and sometimes about human nature in general. Sometimes he talks about "Christ" . . . and sometmes about Divine nature in general. What's so hard to keep straight here (?)
I haven’t read the book, but even in just the few clips Trent showed here this intent seemed clear to me. It’s odd how I find Trent’s discussion and debate with atheists and agnostics so inspiring and intelligent, but when I listen to him disagree with other Christian’s he completely loses me.
Exactly. I feel like Horn is feigning indignation against Rohr, for some reason I can’t fathom.

Fr. Rohr's teachings are proven to be fully aligned with Catholic teachings and sacramental worldview. Catholicism is panENtheistic, not pantheistic.
@@Lothlorian142yeah, you could logic your way up that hill if you are determined to hold on to your political priors.

very great analysis, God bless you,
Thank you, thank you! This hasn't been addressed nearly enough. Fr. Rohr has led many astray. Just a small point, wouldn't it be his Franciscan superiors who would have to correct or discipline him, rather than the bishops? The Vatican has addressed some of these problems in the DDF document On Some Aspects of Christian Meditation. But it doesn't name anyone who is teaching these false doctrines.
You are correct. Religious brothers answer to their superiors in the same way diocesan priests would answer to bishops. Unfortunately just as there are some bad bishops, there are also bad superiors.
This issue is further compounded in the sense that Franciscan spirituality lends itself more towards companionship and “meeting people where they’re at” rather than fraternal correction at the moment.
Father Rohr is just like the priest in the movie Nefarious.
Trent, thank you for sharing this. Unbelievable that we have someone in the Church spreading this anti-Catholic doctrine on a worldwide scale. I pray he will learn the truth and attempt to undo the damage from this before he dies. Very unfortunate and sad. ¡Viva Cristo Rey! ♾✝️👑
Uuh I guess you haven't followed Church news? This is pretty common stuff these days.
@@GiftofChaosStudio I don’t follow any news. Most of it is garbage and lies.
Thank you so much for these videos, Trent. I’m still trying to wrap my head (and heart) around the theology and philosophy of the Catholic Church. I was “raised” “Catholic,” but wandered away by my teens. Became a philosopher, therapist, and eventually psychoanalyst (I still love my work), and at the beginning of this year began regularly reading the Bible. This past Easter I went to Mass for the first time in over 20 years, and have been on fire ever since. I am filled with joy in repenting and coming back into communion with the Church and with Christ. I have so much work to do, but I know my faith will guide me home.
I went through a very brief Rohr phase (for probably a few weeks). Then he said, in a podcast, that he dislikes baseball and other sports, and finds competition to be silly and childish. (I think it’s maybe because he couldn’t catch a baseball.) I’m not sure what the Bible says about baseball, but ever since then Rohr’s ideas have felt too soft and comfortable to me.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard pope Francis commended Rohr in a private audience, and told him to continue with his work and message.
Yes it is. See the center for action and contemplation website news articles 7/1/22
Evidently this was Rohr's version of events. Apply grain of salt accordingly
Is this like the pope suposedly said Biden was a good catholic who should continue to receive communion.
Pope Honorius too commended a heretic, Sergius of Constantinople.
He literally wrote that the universe is the Body of God and that Jesus didnt want to be worshipped and said that Jesus didnt fully knew his divine nature until the Ascension.
No matter how a "good person" a heretic, he is still a heretic.
Wow I’m just getting back into my catholic faith but this seems like a good argument for why we should keep a small inquisitorial staff at the Vatican. This is absolutely heresy on many levels
Sounds like New Age to me.😥 Thanks Trent for bringing this to attention!

As St. Jude told us to do, this video does a good job of "contending earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." And, in the process, stands firmly for what (and how much) all believers have in common rather than highlighting differences. Realizing that your perspective will differ from mine, I have often been annoyed by cheerleading for the Roman church and wished that RC apologists would address the universal church instead. In this video, you have done just that. Well done, brother. Thank you. I know we have differences but, we have far more in common and your warning against Richard Rohr is of truly catholic importance.
What if Christ is another name for everything in it's fullness?
Whatever stands in the way of a conscious contact between the spiritual and the material in human life, only that is truly evil.
He couldn't have said it any better. The two statements above by Richard Rohr have convinced me why I need to read his book ''THE UNIVERSAL CHRIST"
Thanks for criticizing him.
I’ve read 4 of Rohr’s books, and I didn’t just read them, I scrutinized them. I could have written a dissertation on Rohr by the end.
Multiple times, Rohr misquotes the Bible by 1-2 words in a verse. You can’t see it, unless you have a multiple Bibles open while reading his books.
It’s always just enough to not notice, but enough to make the verse align with Rohr’s theology.
He’s a false teacher, heretic, charlatan, and I’d suggest no one read his books unless they are doing so to break them apart.
I disagree with Richard Rohr but he does have a point. It seems to me that far too many Christians focus more on worshipping Christ than in attempting to follow him. The proper worship of Christ is not merely liturgical but obediential. We claim that Jesus is God and then (more often than not) ignore his words about loving our neighbours and our enemies and giving to the poor and assisting the marginalised. What Christ commands is important because of who Christ is.
Obedential is a word I'll borrow from you. Brilliant.
Mother Teresa spent 2-3 hours a day in Eucharistic Adoration, in addition to attending daily Mass. As do thousands of religious sisters, brothers, priests & lay people, then they go out and perform the corporal works of mercy. Mother Teresa "We are not merely social workers".
@@apubakeralpuffdaddy392 That’s not a response to what I wrote. My quarrel is with Christians who only focus on liturgical worship and do not focus on following the teachings of Christ. If Christ is God incarnate then presumably we should be following what he commanded? Mother Teresa, etc, did that. Sunday attendance is not enough.

Do you think there is anything that Rohr is right about? Or is everything he says wrong?
Of course, thats difficult to answer, entirely comprehensive, but my general feeling is that he does teach some correct things. But thats always the problem with heresies. They tend to have some truth in them, but are wrong in some way that leads to big problems.
I’ve had a bad feeling about Rohr, but I’ve had trouble materializing what it was exactly. This video by Trent helps
The progressive protestant churches are massproducing catholic converts.
Friend of mine converted because he went to a protestant church with a female pastor that came out as gay, which caused him to question protestantism and leave eventually.
Its a really nice developement, because only the craddle catholics leave for progressive churches, but the believing christians are converting to catholicism.
This will eventually make the catholic church the stronghold for conservative christanity in modern times, as it has always been
You just BECAME a catholic? Knowing what the world knows about this hild rape cult?
330,000 little boys in France were raped by 3,000 catholic pedophile priests, and it barely made the news, because people EXPECT that from catholics.
It is MUCH worse in the United States, where catholics hid 690 pedophile priests in ILLINOIS ALONE.
Jesus said child rape was UNFORGIVABLE (Matt 18:6-14), and everyone who supported it will get eternal damnation. That means every single catholic, but especially you, for joining when the world knew about this pedophile cult.
Oof. Hard disagree. Fr. Rohr has done so much work to promote contemplation and breakdown false dualities. In his writing on Jesus, he’s trying to remind people that his name isn’t Jesus Christ. As the second person of the Trinity, he’s the eternal Word, the Christ. Jesus is the embodied Christ. It’s an invitation to see Jesus as human but also as the one through whom all things are made.
Your name says all we need to know
So… Jesus is the name of the person/union, the God-Man, the Son is the revealed name of the Second Person of the Trinity, Christ is a title meaning anointed one and thus properly refers to the God-Man not just to the Son, or to the human nature he took on
Brilliant! Thank you!

Theological Liberalism is always Gnosticism. It's almost disappointing how there aren't ever any new heresies. Thanks be to God that the official teaching of the church are so clear.
Check out the teachings of Pope Pius IX on slavery.
Thank you for speaking the Truth. It’s a shame that the Church isn’t condemning this and it’s left to the Laity to stand up for the Faith. God Bless You 🙏✝️😊
He's not arguing for pantheism, but panentheism. Pantheism is the view that God is entirely immanent, panentheism is the view that God is both trancendant and immanent, which arguably agrees with the Bible.
"And the Word became flesh". Word is translated from the Greek logos, implying a separate principle which inhabits Christ. This idea is what Rohr is referring to, and its not a new idea. Its been around since at least Pseudo-Dionysius.
Thank you so much for addressing this counterfeit teaching. It shocks me how popular he is and how many committed Christians follow him. Shocks me too that the Church doesn’t correct his teachings. Our parish priest plugs Rohr’s teachings every single week and is leading the church into error.
God bless you Trent for the patience you have dealing with phony shepherds like Rohr and Martin. I so admire you.

We need to be careful, we are all Christians, one body and one thing we do know is that neither protestants or catholics are better or worse than each other.
After listening to you more Trent, you are correct and Richard Rohr is not correct. People always want to give their own personal interpretation instead of listening to true Church teaching. Thank you Trent for the work you do..
@@getrit3007Well, that's your personal Protestant (heretical) interpretation.
So glad you did this. Many thanks from a secular Franciscan.
you are a secular franciscan order
I am also a secular franciscan order from Asia
@brendamyc3173you should show your local OFS brotherhood this video, maybe someone in the council, should put them on the right track by the blessing of God
Good day, God bless+
I once picked up a book by Rohr but tossed it aside in disgust. In it he criticized Benedict XVI for calling homosexual people “inherently disordered.” The late pope said nothing of the kind; he said homosexual *acts* were inherently disordered. A big difference. If Rohr doesn’t understand the difference, he probably shouldn’t be a priest. If he knows the difference but misquoted in order to villainize the pope, he definitely should not be a priest.
Thank you so much Trent for making this video critiquing and exposing Fr Richard Rohr. Your large audience helps get this warning out. There’s so much wrong about what he’s taught for so long now, misguiding so many souls along the way. God bless
What rubbish, Richard Rohr is actually some-one who isn't intellectually dishonest - unlike virtually all Christians. So a question to ponder. ? How do you reconcile, what the old testament details about creation, Persons named Adam and Eve, a garden of Eden, A catastrophic, creation destroying global flood, and what we actually know to be true? Earth is Billions of years old, Evolution is irrefutably true given the evidence, Never has the earth been destroyed by a Global flood. tricky hey So did Jesus prove that he wasn't"all knowing" - when he supposedly stated - "As it was in the days of Noah" - The days of Noah are Mythology - meant to describe how to "go within" to seek shelter.
I’m glad I saw this. I know a consecrated brother who teaches “higher education”, who subscribes to this Rohr heretic. I stopped associating with him when I found there was nothing in the Rohr worldview that he didn’t recommend me to read. They’ll do anything other than learn to practice virtue. It’s somewhat understandable (but not an excuse) because the cultural message tells them loud and clear that they’re “being who they are and following their God given nature”. I’m sure that he and those like him are thrilled with Brandon and our current pope.
Bono and Fr James Martin luv that book. And another famous Jesuit in Rome has very fond of him and his writings .
And yet we have Christ’s promise for His Church.
@@youtubeKathy Yes, him.
the jesuits are not a monolithe. and our leaders reflect their followers. if we want holy men in the cathedrals, we must be holy men at home.
@@marvalice3455 That's not true at all. If anything it's the opposite; Church leaders should be examples of virtue.
@@marvalice3455 No, it is the other way around.
Franciscan Media promotes his retreat center. They should also be confronted about this.
They would probably just say that since his Franciscan superiors have not disciplined him, that shows the book is A-okay. That's the kind of comment I get when I criticize the writings of Centering Prayer enthusiasts. If only life were that simple!
Our Jesuit retreat house is packed full with Fr. Martin's heretical books.
Amen
Except this is the mumbo jumbo that many Franciscan orders use in the formation of new entrants. Centering prayer, labyrinths, and heresy.
This is why St. Francis is the patron saint of bird baths instead of the voice of one calling for penance, fasting, prayer and poverty. The Seraphic Saint who wrote his rule based upon the Gospels only.
Mainstream Franciscans have long abandoned the real Francis.
Dear brother you are free to remain with the bias of five centuries of Protestant Calvinism, but show grace to others who may while reading their Bibles sincerely have come to see things a little differently. I do know Father Rohr has helped so many not walking away from their faith because of church failings. Maybe ask the H.S. to give you the gift of spiritual discernment before you make a judgement. As for myself I have found churchianity well populated by the Pharisaical spirit reliant on traditional ideology. Maranatha ❤️
I loved Fr. Rohr’s writings before I became Catholic, but I found his works unattractive after my conversion. I failed to realize that the problem went much deeper than mere discomfort. Thank you God for using Mr. Horn. This was an eye opener.

Wow, this video really came in very spiritually handy. I am thankful that God put it in my face. I’ve been reading this commentary-type book from Bohr himself and Patrick Boland called “Every Thing is Sacred” and it’s about this other book “The Universal Christ” by Bohr (that one I haven’t read so far) and I’ve been swallowing it’s content and even explained some of it to my girlfriend…
It’s weird for me now, because I’ve read Francis of Assisi’s prayer before (which author cites in this particular book) and I’ve never thought of Christ as that “universal christ” that is everywhere and in everything.
Now, (thankfully) I will still try to finish reading the book but with a new mind accompanied with skepticism towards that idea of a pantheistic christ which is not Jesus Christ.
Again, thanksgiving should be given to God for his mercy on all these kind of similar situations where He himself serves as an obstacle for you to remain in Him who is Truth.
I also find surprising that this video of Horn was uploaded just 4 months ago. This topic might me something very controversial among Catholics since I think Bohr is a Catholic priest? I’m not sure. Anyway, prayers be made for the souls of those who are also swallowing those strange teachings concerning Jesus Christ, the son of Mary and the Son of God; the Lord of creation who Himself sustains the whole cosmos with the power of his word.
Hebrews 1:3
And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
It's very concerning to me that Fr Richard Rohr should not have received episcopal sanction for publishing this book. It seems full of heresies and half-tuths as well as theological psychobable that indulges in New Age spirituality. In the video, Trent makes the point that at least the book did not receive an Imprimatur, but I'm sorry that is not good enough. It should not have been published. His Bishop should have sanctioned him. He has caused such scandal and confusion among the faithful.
At this point I don't think a single book should be published about the faith by a Catholic without it having a nihil obstat and imprimatur.
@@kelly4187 the Imprimatur is only as reliable as the censor who reviews books for a particular bishop. It would not totally solve the problem in our day. Not to mention that publishing schedules make it difficult for many orthodox books to be reviewed by the diocese.
We need a theological inquisition in the Church
You don’t mean sanction . You may mean censure. Sanction (which Rev. Rohr did NOT get from his bishop) is APPROVAL. Hence Trent Horn’s comment. I agree with you that he should be censured!
@@kelly4187 this was the practice under Pope St. Pius X, who really put into place the censures as we have now in his encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis. Sucks that these aren’t being fully enforced anymore.
Thank you for doing this video Trent. There is a certain Jesuit that gets a lot of your attention but is not nearly as dangerous as this Franciscan. It's about time the Church looks to censure his outright heresy!
yes, why is the Church not burning heretics alive today? This could be so easily sorted out with a few sticks of kindling and a match. Poor old Giordano Bruno was sent to the stake for less than this. And Jan Hus. Of course Luther was protected by powerful secular princes, but they would have gladly toasted him alive if they could have. Has the Church gone soft?
Absolutely! The tactic of presenting a half truth can knock people off balance. And particularly when it’s a priest speaking, a Catholic will assume the priest is more knowledgeable and give him the benefit of the doubt. Then once they’re off track the next half truth is easier to swallow and so it goes. It is diabolical.
you mean Maartin? if so, yes, people are scared to criticize him for some reason
@@MrMarcodarko Trent criticises James Martin regularly. This is his first video on Rohr. Rohr is certainly the more dangerous of the two!
Father Richard Rohr is a great teacher , with insights for mature Christians to continue on a faith journey toward a deeper , more intimate relation ship with God and all Creation . I rejoice that my brother , Richard , has been given the wisdom and courage to speak about more of the mysteries God has offered us. I have been a life-long Protestant , and began my journey in an evangelical ( non-judgmental ! ) church . My parents always lived, and taught me to live a life of tolerance and love , and to follow the teachings of Jesus . As my journey continued , I joined the Moravian ( from the time of the Reformation ) Church. The motto is " IN ESSENTIALS , UNITY ; IN NON-ESSENTIALS ,LIBERTY ;
AND IN ALL THINGS , LOVE . " There have been contemplative prayer sessions in my church . Father Richard's teachings are quite conservative , in the best sense of the word. How wonderful , what a gift of grace we've been given to learn the lessons in our history that open us to return , to learn , to be courageous , to become stillness . I wonder why the dear , blessed, revolutionary Pope chose the name Francis . I also wonder what he and our Franciscan Father Rohr spoke about ...........
Oh wow, this poor man is out there,I knew years ago Father Rohr was confused because of many things. Thanks for the explanation, this guy needs lots of prayers.
Mytics have always been misunderstood. Nothing new here. Next!
I look forward to reading the book. Intuitively feeks as though Rohr is being taken out of context.
Thank you, Trent. So helpful for me. A Sister has been sharing much about Father Richard Rohr lately and I had no idea who he is So your podcast taught me a lot about him and his way of thinking. I am a new convert of one year and it is easy to be confused so I stick with CA and the rest of your apologists to get my info straight. Also studying the CIAY with Father Mike so see the references you made clearly.
Rita , Richard Rohr 's writing is very deep , so deep that Trent does not truly understand
what Richard is on about , because what is written about the ' universal Christ ' is clearly affirmed in the Scriptures ( Colossians 1 , Ephesians 1 , John 1 , Hebrews 1 ) and in the early Church when the Christian faith was still creative and expanding .
