DAY 11: Lineman’s Loop: When it comes to creating a loop in the middle of a rope, I prefer the Lineman’s Loop (also called the Alpine Butterfly) over the Harness Loop (Day 10). It’s ideal for use as a handhold for pulling or for various other applications.

It's a fixed loop you can anchor to. It also makes a great lantern holder in the middle of your ridgeline.

It can be loaded in any direction. Can be tied without requiring and end of the rope.
