Instagram reels has its own culture man, it's not just the crap music videos, it's anything deemed by the broader collective to be worthy of hate. Its reached a point where these music and music videos are probably intentionally made bad so they can get more views and comments to boost the algorithm.
Yeah people get into a sort of competition to make the funniest comment about something in a video, you mentioned that phenomenon in another video too.
One of your biggest points is that music is up against all these other types of content. It leads to watered down dopamine pinpointed music instead of what it should be - an experience and journey. Imagine if movies didn’t have theatres and had to compete too. I think there should be a social media platform just for music, or one highly favored towards it
totally agree. i think some artists are able to make content that feels like art, but most either struggle to do that, or sacrifice the quality of the music to do it. I think what Spotify is doing with "Clips" will eventually become exactly what ur talking about. but the issue is it will still allow for really dope visuals to outshine kinda okay music
@@offtheline-x8w this is well said too! there's an art to how music can be shared on the internet as well but the types of videos i talked about on here are not rly the best examples of it haha
I feel like alongside this conversation we gotta talk about how there are sm artist now that are being intentionally “cringe” or “campy” but in a cool way and how that’s inspiring people or pushing aesthetics in a certain direction. For instance, take groups like drain gang, haunted mound, and shed theory. I feel like their use of tags in the beats (“nukes are now legal” or “real haunted mound” as examples) or their subject matter could come off as cringe to certain ppl but it’s also what makes their music so fun and unique and it’s definitely inspired me with my music and how I present it with my cover arts and videos. To me, it shows ppl that you can truly be yourself, incorporate things that you enjoy in your life, and just have fun making art and doing whatever YOU think is cool and entertaining
@@hadjitube maybe you can make a video on how those types of groups are heavily influencing underground aesthetics and marketing and credit me for the idea so I can get more eyes on MY music 👁👁 💀
My explore page is so cooked right now, it's just these kind of reels everywhere haha. That "Just not over it" song is actually kinda fire tho, definitely the best of the bad music reels.
When i discovered Pinknoise on TikTok i was surprised how positive everyone was in the comments. Never Last is such a good song (vocally, lyrically and sonically are amazing) and I'm glad they found the right audience.
Lowkey I attract this type of audience if I add certain hashtags in tiktok, mainly like Kai cenat or related streamers it added the one of hate comments on our artists music. I think it’s just seeing a balance of good content to put out there and understanding who is supposed to listen to it, even if our sounds are realized
this is a great conversation to have, i think, and i agree with your take. i am obviously concerned about music made exclusively to be algorithmically viable, but honestly, a lot of chart-topping artists do the same, only with a level of gloss and 'professionality' that's unattainable for an amateur. i'm happy to know that other people find positive and even inspiring attributes to music that sounds so obviously amateur, unpolished, unprofessional (and i say this with no malice at all). i think that you can often find a lot of artistry, although untethered, there. that kind of naivete is a rare commodity, but it is rarely accompanied by a creative vision. LUCY (Cooper B. Handy) comes to mind: i've seen his music often described in the same terms i used before, but he's still clever, catchy as hell and in my top tier of artists. 31:07 i think this comment ties the conversation up very beautifully! thanks for the discussion.
I‘m a small artist and I thought a lot about if I should post a really bad cover in order to get shares and get noticed, but at the same time I‘d be scared people would think I‘m serious and block me or something 😅
it's hard. I'm lucky I started putting stuff out before everything was algorithm-first. but if I've learned anything it's just dropping consistent quality. when I switch the vibe of my posts on IG I see them perform not as well, but when I do the same thing a few times in a row sometimes it starts to pick up
