Thank you for being real . I also struggle with depression and anxiety. Normally, I love everything to be extremely clean. But I let things go for a while. Things were not so clean, so watching your video helped. Depression can zap your energy and motivation. So, just like you, I am slowly getting cleaning and decluttering done. It is so very exhausting and overwhelming but rewarding.

This was the best video ever!!!! I love to watch decluttering videos, but get tired of watching the same people doing decluttering who have already done their whole house. It is so encouraging to watch somebody who is in the middle of it right now. You gave me so much inspiration to get off my butt and get some stuff done. I went through all of my jeans cleaned up two huge boxes. Cleaned off two large messes off of tables and I think I'm gonna put you on my favorites and watch you every week over and over just to get the motivation again. Thank for being so vulnerable.

You can look at Swedish death cleaning the other way (i find it helpful) - consider it a Moving to other continent cleaning. Like, if you have to move to Africa or like New Zealand in a month, what do you consider valuable enough to pay money for bringing and shipping to you? Or even better, for more minimalist folks - you only have like 3-5 big suitcases limit 😊
I moved like that a couple of times and there is nothing more frustrating than having to fit a life in a few big suitcases and you HAVE to let go of other stuff - donate or sell but usually it still ends up being donated. Keeping this mentality might help in avoiding extra purchases even :) thanks for the video☺️

I'm only through the toy storage, but I had to stop to say this is the one of the BEST decluttering videos I have ever seen. Love the mix of action & music and voiceover explanations of your thinking. I have been decluttering steadily for years and really believe that small, consistent effort is the most effective way to get to your goals and also maintain 'order' once you are basically there. Thank you!!

I am a neat freak, but I enjoy looking at cleaning videos. I have been looking at your shorts, so I decided to watch the full 30 day declutter video. Everyone is different, do you sweetie! I deal with depression and some days I don't do anything. I am on chemotherapy right now, and have come to the realization that the apartment will get a deep clean when my body gives me a break. I watch several cleaning channels, yours isn't as bad and I mean that. Happy Easter 🐰🐣🐰!

Regarding the photos, I recently decided to go thru all of mine (I'm 74 and my mom is 99). I decided to hire a professional photographer to copy all my pictures digitally ( not sure if we are doing thumb drives, zip drives, or what). I am giving my children and my siblings copies. I was going to destroy all the hard copies but one of my children wanted them. All the huge pictures will be copied and destroyed. I don't know about other people, but I hate those huge framed pictures. They take up so much space. The frames and photo albums will be donated. This was the very last area I decluttered. I did all the Christmas stuff this past December. Also, another one I had put off.

This was an absolute delight to watch. I’m very impressed with how much you accomplished. I saved some of our boys’ toys and books for their children. Our grands now use the same toys as their dads. My husband and I will be married 46 years next month (I’m 69). Decluttering seems to be a continuous chore over the years. We keep boxes in our downstairs bathtub (which isn’t used, obviously). When I get enough boxes/bags, I call Vietnam Vets. They come and pick everything up. Keep up the good work. You have a great start for future micro-decluttering. I’m looking forward to future videos. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 P.S. you might want to try some lazy Susan’s in your kitchen cabinets. It makes seeing what you have easier.

Having chronic illness can be a motivator to do change habits. I have chronic pain and autoimmune condition. It's tiring. It's tough trying to keep things in order. I also have anxiety, depression combo too.
It's all very taxing at times to even do the basics. So to do a little bit at a time, is the way to go.
I've been going through my things slowly but surely.
My goal is to make my home more manageable to clean and navigate, more simple.
I also like the Swedish Death Cleaning philosophy too. I don't want to burden my kids with all my stuff.
You're so right, Anyone who makes the judgy, negative comments. Their life could change in an instant. It really changes your life when dealing with health issues. Physical and mental health.
They need to think before saying/typing anything.
Wishing you all the best with your health and your home decluttering journey.

Last year our family moved to a much bigger apartment with plenty of space. I didn't have to declutter for the first time in years because I felt like I had a space for everything. Oh boy was I wrong! Only a year later I feel like the apartment has gone out of hand and now I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I have to deal with, especially now that I have a little kid! Great job! It makes sense to purge picture frames that aren't being used to display photos and emptying photo albums saves so much space. Honestly though, I would probably hold onto the old family photo album. It's beautiful and someone obviously took time to add special notes. Your kids may not be into that now but down the road they might be. For people who get into genealogy (often later in life) books like these are treasures. You've still gotten rid of so much but I feel this belongs with your family and the old chest. Also, if you do decide to declutter them do you have siblings or cousins who may be interested in saving them? This is something that can never be replaced.

I must say, you bring out the mama bear in me. Watching how you are gradually over coming all your hurdles, and the huge amount of progress you have made, feels me with so much happiness for you. It may not seem like it to you, but the progress you have achieved, and the obstacles you have accomplished is 10 fold. You are a truly amazing young lady and should hold your head up high. Even in your darkest moments Katrina, always remember you are a good kind hearted person and highly valued, you make a difference in this world. Really great to see a video that is real, not tidied before hand. You go girl, you are doing an amazing job. Sometimes life just gets away with you, I am a tidy freak now but can definitely remember the years when I wasn’t , life was busy, kids, work, then grandkids work, now life is peaceful all is beautifully presented, there are different times in life when are heads are muddled causing our homes to become muddled. Wishing you all the best on your journey, maybe go on a spending freeze for a bit. Xx

Wow this is a really great video! Thank you so much for being so thorough and opening up about home neglect.
One day thing I learned when my son was little is I ended up having ONLY enough clothes for 10 days. I cannot tell you how helpful that was.
After doing that I never had Mt. Washmore waiting to be washed and no Mt. Foldmore waiting to be folded getting dust and wrinkled. 🥴
I learned from another RUclips personality (FlyLady Kat) that laundry IS NOT DONE until it's folded or hung and put away. That changed my mindset completely when it came to clothes and laundry.
In addition we do not have more than 5 coloring books and 5 learning work books at one time. 1 writing notebook at a time. 1 sticker book at a time.
I noticed you had an abundance. I would say take ALL the extra and put them in the top of a closet or in a bin they cannot reach. Then as they use one up you can trade it out.
You can also tear all the pages out of the five you keep out and put them in one of those clear zip pocket you used for toy organization and then after they color both sides hang it from a string (yarn) like a laundry line in their bedroom. After a month of display remove them and start again. Keep one or two for their memory bins (declutter that once a year)
The less we had the better because we had to do the laundry in order to get dressed.
Like you when I went through my own clothes o made sure I could wear each item with at least 3 other things, tops and bottoms. I now have just enough clothes for a 2 week vacation.
When people go on vacation the take clothes that is comfortable and that we look good in. So that was my motivation.
Now I have a wardrobe that everything fits and is comfortable and that is mix and match no matter which top or bottom I choose.
I am truly amazed at your grand efforts in all those spaces you tackled and I'm going to go through our home in August as our 31 day challenge.

I was so inspired by your closet declutter. I have held onto things that I haven’t worn because it doesn’t fit (but might some day), haven’t worn because I just still like it, and have kept things that I know I will never wear. Watching that part of your video allowed me to have a little flip in my mindset about purging my clothes. I’m super excited to get to that project on my decluttering journey. I gave you a shout out in my video yesterday. Great video. Good luck with the rest of your challenge.

Those soup season packages are like gold to me. On Sunday nights I like to take 1 pack of instant noodles, boil it with a portion of soup veggies with little water. After I put that in a plate and only add half of the seasoning package and add a boiled egg, hotdog or small hamburger. I would suggest to buy the noodles in a big package. You can find those in asian food stores.

Just a few things...I have a shoe bench - I can sit on it to put shoes on, and it has shelves underneath - love this and shoes are always in reach. As for dust - my enemy, as I'm allergic - and a never ending battle. OF course depends where you live - outback Australia and outta luck with dust and flies, Antartica - probably less dust? For medical supplies - having someone at home in and out of hospital, with nurse visits - I gave up and we have a small surgery in our lounge - just that stage of life so friends/family will have to deal with it. :)

Studies have shown too many toys for children to play with causes them high anxiety. They have trouble picking something to play with because there is too much to consider. Downsizing their toys raises their ability to enjoy the toys that they have to choose from. So, even though it’s beautiful to see the toys organized, it is much more exciting to see that their choices are limited. I learned this the hard way because after raising my four children, the grandkids were coming before the youngest was out, and I have never thrown away the toys that my older children have played with and added to it for the grandchildren to play with. it was clearly overwhelming and they also did not appreciate or excite over all the toys. Once I reduced everything down to just a few of the memorial toys and their favorite toys, they were thrilled with the few they had to choose from. I was thrilled that I wasn’t cleaning up toys continuously anymore. We are of the mistaken mindset that the more kids have, the happier they are. Nothing is further from the truth. .

tip for the fridge, before doing any shopping, just wipe it through quickly with some desinfectant wipe, since it is probably pretty empty anyway. still better than nothing. and while cookign, check what weird rests could be used up in the dish you are making or cut up some stuff for quick snacks or to freeze while waiting for the water to boil etc. it will help you to know what is in there, whats about to expire and you can deal with it before it gets gross and can save money bc you dont throw out that much anymore. cheers!

I know it's been a while since you posted this video and even more since you were working with the photo chest... but for those pictures that you don't feel good decluttering, you can digitize them. That's what Ive been doing, I scan them and have them all in a small drive. You can have a folder per generation or per person. This way you keep the memory but have the paper picture taking space. This works for birthday and/or greeting cards as well.

You never know, they might enjoy seeing the things that mattered that much to you. Throwing out 1 box in the far future instead of going through the ton of stuff most people have to deal with would probably be a blessing.

You have done an amazing job cleaning your house! I would just like to suggest a small shelf that can hold each pair of shoes on the shelving in view to see each pair, because the box you are using now is just hiding a mountain of shoes you will still have to dig through. This will leave forgotten shoes, a mess and damage to the shoes. If you use a low cabinet type shelf with three shelves or so and doors to cover, it will hide the shoes from visitors to be aesthetically pleasing and look uncluttered but when you open the doors each pair of shoes is on each shelf visible and in place. Just thought I would recommend that idea. You've done an amazing job and you have inspired me so much and taught me a great way to clean and declutter without getting overwhelmed. Thank you from a fellow Aussie! ❤️🥰👍🕊🇦🇺🦘🐨🌞💐

IKEA makes a fantastic shoe organizer, narrow, shoes slide into tip out “pockets”😊

Thank you for sharing. I never thought about doing a little bit each day (smaller than even the tasks you did). But thinking of doing the whole house is so overwhelming is paralyzing. So I am going to break my tasks into very small goals-a drawer or shelf a day and eventually, hopefully it will get done.
